If it was as simple as reducing the money thrown on the wars, the economicdown turn would end today. A country's GDP is measured by how much it is able to produce later on export (simplified). But when you sell a AIG sell derivatives and they are considered part of the GDP, it creates an illusion of wealth which regulators should have noted. If they don't you have two options. (1) Throw money at this inflated bubble and deflete it slowly - Bailout (2) Do nothing and let things collapse.
