  • Does anyone know what the other two toys are? Had those as well and had completely forgotten about them until I saw the video! Made me smile.

  • Spent many a weekend making up space missions that only the Star Bird could pull off. Great toy.

  • I had 2 of these wonderful toys! I could spend hours imagining I was either fighting the Cylons or the Imperial Fleet. Cannot remember who I traded themwith or what for but woe is me, woe is me! LOL

  • I'm now 44 and I still got one in a box under the bed .... Will never get rid of it

  • ahhh memories

  • I had one of these !!

  • I still have mine!!

  • Cool, I used to pair mine up with my 2000AD vehicles too!

  • I had this as a kid and would pretend i was in outerspace with it, Now that i'm older i fly in space for real battling aliens with my ray gun and army of marshmellow people.

  • Awesome toy.

  • I used to drive every one mad with mine.cheers for the memory's.

  • Haven't heard that in years!!! Thanks for posting... man, I miss my Starbird!

  • I had one!!!!

  • Classic. My favourite toy as a kid. Thanks for the memories.

  • I remember playing with this alot. I always did the "fighter ship" with the just bridge plus the rear thruster attached to it. It used to be the "biggest" toy I ever had. Well now, its looks small in adult hands.

  • I am always afraid it will explode if you leave it in the ascend position for too long.

  • HA! I remember this toy now. I had forgotten all about it over the years. Thanks for posting!

  • Turret gun envy. Lost mine as a double barrel pistol with Luke in like '81.

  • I remember that thing. My brother has one. Where does all that crap disappear to over the years?

  • i wanted to see those vehicles next to it :(

  • OMG! I remember saving up my allowance as a kid to buy mine. Drove my parents nuts with it on a regular basis.

  • Still have mine... It looks 30 years old lol

  • Had one of these as a wee lad, awesome toy.

Its times like this I really miss being a kid....

  • Dude... I can't believe I've just seen this on here! Totally had this!

The lad next door had the 'enemy version' - I think it was the same shape(?) but black. (Obviously) :)

  • The 70's and 80's were awesome.

  • I had this ship, was awesome. Found it this weekend, unfortunately it was completely ruined. I had that green flying car also, what were those called?

  • The toy that pissed off alot parents back in the day. Mom or dad used to yell to me "TURN THAT FUCKING THING OFF IM TRYING TO WORK!!!" lol

  • I've still go mine... but it is in much worse shape

  • my favorite toy. i will pay you $200 for that one!

  • @iammovingtomexico

$200 is tempting.. but it's not for sale.. sorry.. try Ebay..

  • The predecessor to the i-Phone

  • Coolest use of a mercury switch ever.

  • Gotta love the Star Bird. This was definitely a compliment to my Big Trak.

  • Twas my favorite too...wow..the memories!

  • my favorite toy i ever had!!!!!

  • where do u buy this thing?

  • man I freakin LOVED this toy when I was a kid!!!

  • This was almost certainly my favorite toy EVER. I think I may still have it in storage.

  • Man oh man! There's no way that I would forget this!

  • I remember this, I think.

  • As if the noise wasn't annoying enough, I put a phone jack on mine and plugged it into my stereo (HUGE RCA console, circa 1967). Gave my parents a new reason to yell "Turn that S##T down!!!

  • Wow. I forgot how annoying the SFX were! Man, I must have really bugged my parents. That was one awesome toy. It went perfectly with the dollar store 1/48 space men sets my mom would get me.

  • Is it even worth anything? I have both the Star Bird and the Command Base, both still in the boxes, brand new

  • I have this very same type of Star Bird. I almost threw it away years ago, then I almost gave it to my son, who would have wrecked it. I did not realize it could be a collectors' item

  • Wow I don't think we had the Star Bird but I had (and still have!) the green tank think shown at the start of the video. The one with the turret mounted gun which swivels around. It's part metal, part plastic and quite heavy compared to similar toys today!

Not sure if the tank came with the Star Bird range or you just displayed it here cos it's similar? :)

  • @Meinlondon I have the Star Bird! I am thinking of selling it

  • yes yes. I wish I kept mine. Loved this thing. Toys were so freaking cool back in the day, now they're absolute crap

  • Wow! I remember this! I almost think that I had it, but I rarely had awesome electronic toys. I think I'm confusing myself for some other kid.

  • Still got a working Star Bird, no box and a few bits missing but complete awesome times were had my me and my bro with these, thanks to a very loving Mum and Dad who despite having hardly a pot to piss in, always made Xmas a special time

  • ho my god a had hall three toys the green flying truck .

star bird the green cars gant rember what were thay calld

my mouther thro them out when i left home 23 years ago thay was still in the boxs gutted

  • @whitestar14 I LOVE it when parents throw away things of thier children and find out later it was real treasure. You can't find a complete one anymore.

  • Oh man, I had this and the command base too. I loved that the rear tail fins would detach and they were these little support fighters. The front would detach (kinda like the saucer section on the Enterprise) and that could be it's own separate ship, and that would also come apart as a little hand phaser toy! Genius!

I wish I knew there this toy went. Mom probably tossed it out when I got older. :-(

  • I had the command base. And that sound so cool. Very cool sound. so realistic.

  • I remember a friend at primary school had one. I was so envious...

  • The laser sounds were cool, but this video does not include them.

As a kid I found the engine sounds really annoying and the laser sounds really great, but you could not have one without the other. I usually played with mine turned off so the engine sounds would be off, but I had to switch it on to fire the guns. I thought it was a nice looking starship design. The engine noise was unnecessary as well as annoying and illogical if you think about it.

Climbing and descending sounds in space?

  • You can imagine dad just gettin in from work, tired and pissed off! The last thing dad needs is that fuckin noisy racket! Ha ha! "will you SWITCH that fuckin thing off!!!!!"

  • oh , my , god, I_P#IR#_)I#@_I#@

this just triggered a MASS DELUGE of childhood memories. My cousin had this!!! IT is THE BEST!!!!

  • I bet all them sounds from this toy drove parents up the fucking walls!

  • Damn, that thing was the shyt when I was a kid, lol.

  • Was the coolets sound in the world at the time!

  • i want one

  • I had one of these and loved it (THE-SPACE-MAN)

  • I forgot all about this bad boy...It's better than any of the Star Wars ships that Kenner made...

  • i wanted this sooo bad but never got it. then i imagined putting it up against the intruder version which i never got either. but unlike kids today i used my imagination.

  • I had a similar model in the early 80s called "something Intruder".All black, made the same sounds and could be slid apart and be used as a laser gun thingy. It also came with a reflective cardboard radar base that you could shot at.Once in a while I would register a hit.My mother hid it from me due to it being too loud.I never saw it again.

  • Milton Bradley and Kenner made the coolest toys back in the day. I had the Star Bird along with the Avenger and the base. When time travel is invented, I'm going back to the 70's and 80's and picking all of my favorite cool toys!

  • My buddys & I shot this up with BB gun hooking it up on sting line. It was amazing that we did not shoot each other or lose & eye. In the 70's kids could be kids. Thanks for flash back!

  • awsome toy,

i took mine apart and took the ball bearing out lol

  • funny how the memories come flooding back.. wow

  • fukin loved the star bird ...

  • wow I had one of those. Used to love it

  • o.o

  • Why cann't my car sound like that?? You know, it kind of sounds like a vaccume cleaner!

  • Why cann't my car sound like that?? You know, it kind of sounds like a vaccume cleaner!

  • I have to say, I was somewhat disappointed by the toys during the 80's. We had Star-Wars telling us what 'computers' were going to do, but yet apart from BigTrack et al there weren't any computers doing anything of the sort. Even the toys were all imagination based like the SB above, nothing like the kids have had for the last 20 years or so, the closest to this I got was 'Merlin' or Atari2600, oh to have had an iphone, xbox playstation back then :)

  • @tempac You think that kids today have so good??Really??Any kid today is now lacking any real imagination since everything is so instant and ready to play with.Nah man,we had it way better cause we the '80's generation are the ones running PIXAR ANIMATION STUDIOS and others that need individuals with some real imaginations. We have it better man, trust me dude!I was born in 1979,so I know what I'm saying! Please reply!

  • fuckin annoying man shitbird

  • I had the original Starbird, it was fucking mega!!! I loved this toy sooo much. Great memories.

  • That's the Avenger, not the original SB

  • @medievalfantasy No, it isn't. The Avenger had smaller main LEDs closer together to make room for the IR detectors that were there to register a hit... It also had Avenger written on the side...

  • @Labruskie Either way, it's not the original release with light gray pieces. Those are Avenger interceptors and cannon/hover pieces. Like Napoleon Dynamite, someone's mixing and matching.

  • Brilliant, had so much fun with starbird and the Command Centre!

What are the other two toys in the video?

  • The other two toys are from Matchbox's Adventure 2000 line.

  • Comment removed

  • great toys they made back then.

  • LOL! that was spin off from Star Wars Y-wing!!!! Rip-off!

  • I remember my older brother having one of those back in 1980 when we lived at Hickam AFB in Hawaii. He wouldn't let me play with his toy. One day I was home sick and he had to go to school, I plunged it in the bathtub! He also had a BigTrack that he wouldn't let me play with. Dad felt sorry that I ruined his StarBird so he bought him a bigwheel. I took his BigTrack and programed it to run off the pier in to the ocean!

  • @thegreeneyeseesyou no wonder he wouldn't lend you his toys

  • I always got scared that mine would overload if I ran it up too high...LOL. I got over it eventually, though. This was a rockin' toy! Wish I knew what I did with mine.

  • Awesome. I still have mine that I got for Christmas about 30 years ago.

  • LOL, cool.

That's the 2nd version of Star Bird (Avenger)I think, different stickers, and of course the big difference is that it had the extra infrared (I think) emiter and recever, so it could fight with the smaller Intruder ,if hit it made the engine noises cut out.

I've got the original Star Bird, and the Intruder,

    ah happy days..

and yes , they were damn loud!, probably prompting more than one "give it a rest" on xmas day :)

  • @UrgentementeUK -- I remember opening mine at about 1am on Xmas night, probably 1980, and being told to go back to bed :)

  • I have the Dutch version completely new in box, found it a number of years ago in a toy store, covered in dust.

It's the first electronic spaceship I remember, didn't get it as a kid as it was too expensive :^)

And I had that car as a kid, the one in the front with the wings! What brand is that one?

  • So goooood - The sound was LOUD I dont know what happened mine. I had both those space cars also - did they come with it?

I think they were corgi or matchbox. I want mine back :(

  • any chance you'd consider selling me this sb 450?

  • did you know that there was three toys in this range Starbird, Avenger and Interceptor?

    happy memories

  • awesome toy... so much fun. this was what being 5 yrs old was all about !

  • Dude.

Star Bird kicks serious, serious a**.

With a Star Bird AND a Big Trak you can pretty much rule the universe.

Doubt even Lord Vader would call you out.

  • The StarBird was one of those toys I was after as a kid and was extremely jealous of a friend who had it. But I did have that car on the right the K-2002 Flight Hunter.

  • Sounds like a vacuum cleaner. If your dad beat you, now you know why.

  • It's like I was there...again! :D Thanks, that's a GREAT video!

  • I had this, the base, and the black one, it was fun.

I'm sort of suprized they have never made a movie about it. Seems like they make a movie out of all the cool toys.

  • that toy had such an epic start up i thought it would launch right out of your hand there for a sec....or explode, lol

  • a parental torture weapon.

  • holy shit I owned that sucka

  • This was THEEE toy to get. Got mine at a store then called The Treasury, the whole front came off including the fins, and a button could be pressed for laser sounds. I was about 10, 11.

  • I have mine still, the front pod comes off and transforms into a smaller ship and the black tips on the wings turn into recon ships. when the two ships battle you can kill the other ship, awesome toys better than video games I'm going to get batteries now

  • this was one of the coolest toys ever!! this and a big trak!!

  • had this as a kid

  • I use to do the same thing with mine.drove the ol man nuts with it.I can still almost hear him trying to yell at me over top of the noise.Good times

  • I had one of these, it rocked. The black one rocked more!

Would have been nice to have had an opening cockpit with maybe some figures to go in it

  • OMG OMG

awsome i had one but i gave it away like a idiot. brings back good mems that did

thumbs up for big trak evil kneevil star bird

    the chopper and grifter :):):)

  • I had the Starbird Intruder! I was the bad guy!

  • YES, YES Y E S ... I had this when I was a kid and I WANT ONE

  • ahh memories... come to think of it tho, it sounds like a washing machine on spin cycle, no? waitin for it to shudder near the end. lol :D

  • I still have mine! And it still works. Wow your looks brand new. Mine looks like its 30 yrs old!

  • had 1 of these the best gutted i never knew what happened to it!!!!

  • *sniff*

    That was ...

    beautiful.

  • that noise rising and falling takes me back to 1978. Nice

  • I had one too and LOVED this thing!!! My fav toy that Christmas!!

  • Wow this takes me back....!!!

I had one like this, my one of my mates at school had the other one the black (and red was it?) version. Havent seen one in sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo long.

  • That was great! I can't tell you how many hours of my childhood was spent with that toy! My friend even had the launch base that Milton Bradley sold to go with the Star Bird, but I could never afford that!

I never did like the little fighters on the wings though, and kept them off. I liked to imagine the Star Bird as a MUCH larger star ship, similar in size to Enterprise or Battlestar Galactica. Lots of decks, etc... The fighters on the wings ruined that perspective.

  • That toy was just so freakin' AWESOME!! And yours is in beautiful conditions. It's hard to find them these days with all the psrts included.

The CGI version I built is fun, but the real toy is just so much cooler! Thanks for posting this. It brought back some great childhood memories.

  • Santa brought the german version in 1981

    (i think):

    Star Bird - SUPERVOGEL

Tons of tons of tons of memories!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH - Vielen Dank!

  • OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Amount of Memories that this brought back!!

    Nice one.
