@andrexander jazz drumsets are tuned alot differentally than most other genres, for example, in rock or metal you would tune a tom really low on the batter and even lower on the reso, with jazz you want a tone (like a note [c, f#]) out of the drum by tuning it tight on the batter so its not punchy like a rick tom, and the reso a little higher than the batter to shorten the sustain. and the ride cymbal he is using it extremely dark and has rivets for that sizzle sound afterwards.
@baronofhell08 sorry brother i didnt wanted to be so mean!! i dont know much about jazz, the thing is that sounds to me too agressive, i dont know how to describe it, i hope you find well, and i want to see more jazz videos from you..GOOD LUCK!
@andrexander i don't do jazz lol, i do anything with "core" at the end of it lol (metalcore, deathcore). my music teacher is a jazz freak and i've done my share of research on all genres, lol. death metal is the hardest, speed, stamina and accuracy wise. jazz is the second hardest due to independance of hands, feet and dynamics, very tough stuff.
@baronofhell08 its literally the player in the situation I think its fairly immature to say that any genre is harder its about the subtitles of everything, players, bands, and teachers. its all about the drummers playing.
@baronofhell08 I watched one of your videos and you're good at what you do, anything with "core" in it. Which isn't the most extreme, but you can definitely play, I'm not discrediting you as a player, in terms of you I bet jazz is a lot harder for you, just because you play core.
Very nice breakdown of different grooves(especially polyrhythms which I need a lot of help with). I think I've been stuck in the old jazz mode (a la Buddy Rich, Louie Bellson etc) for too long. I'm not a professional drummer but I have a few clips on youtube under "Drummer Richard Gray" . I would appreciate your critique of my playing if you have a moment since you are an instructor who I believe could provide some valuable insight. Thanks!

@andrexander but trust me with a good mic (not a camcorder) and being played along to a song, this sounds amazing.
