  • Just incredible. I was lucky enough to hear and love these guys from the beginning. I will never understand(or forgive) the fact that the world didn't properly embrace their genius. With respect to Queen, Jellyfish were always able to perfectly reproduce their music live. That makes them different. They were just magic, perfect. Take influence from The Who and Queen and make something special. SO special, but also be able to perform it, perfectly 'live'.Just wonderful.

  • I cant believe I've never heard of this band once in my life up until 3 days ago...and I'm 29 years old!! They are shredding every concept of music I've ever believed in into pieces! I love it!

  • I don't believe there is any other drummer who stands and sings when he plays. ANDY STURMER is THE BEST!

  • I've got to agree with you all!!! They are probably THE most overlooked band of the 90's. Everyone I turn them on to loves their music. If I were stranded on an island and could only take 5 albums with me, Bellybutton & Spilt Milk would be must haves. Everytime you listen you hear someting new. So many layers... Absolutely INCREDIBLE!!!!!

  • best album ever bar none.you don't sound pretentious.just right.

  • Do you think Andy can still play drums and sing?

  • Jellyfish were an amazing band! Yet, timing and misfortune had a lot to do with their downfall. In 1990, music was transitioning from hair metal and synth pop, yet the wave of grunge was about to overwhelm the industry. In addition, when MTV played their material, they were touring in Europe, so they couldn't strike the iron when it was hot. A brilliant band, and when I hear these performances, they always bring a smile to my face.

  • I am not over-estimating when I say that Jellyfish is one of the best, if not the best live performers in modern music.

  • They sound like the Beatles, Queen, and the Beach Boys poured into a blender with the result better than the individual ingredients!!!

Wish they would get back together.

  • 髪切ったほうが絶対かっこいいよねwww

  • this group is downright brilliant. I accidently came across their CD in the used CD section. REALLY glad I bought it!! Their songs simply MAKE YOU FEEL GREAT!

I keep yearning for more music like this. What happened to good music anyway? Most of the junk they put out today sounds like the soundtrack to accompany the end of the earth.

Good music feeds my heart and soul... and lately I've been starving!

  • Brilliant! The Beatles meet the Beach Boys with a twist of 60s AM radio.

    I LOVE THIS BAND!

  • I agree with all the comments I got to see the Spilt Milk Tour very amazing shouldn't have done those mushrooms or I would have really remembered it better HAHA

  • Has anyone ever realised this song has the guitar part of getting better and the baseline of with a little help from my friends by the beatles?

  • wow....amazing!....still have my Jellyfish cassettes!...lol...

  • maybe it was their getting more complex and complicated that took them a little farther away from connecting to their audience ? Bellybutton is amazing, Spilt Milk one step too far (in hindsight of course). They needed .... a little Beck in the mix. Jack White probably had not even been born at this point. Tweedy was laid out wasted in the back of the blue van somewhere in Ohio. Beck, White, Tweedy, Manning and Sturmer. Unite those and ....problem solved.

  • And I ran into Jason at other times. Once, trying to get in to a gig to announce them onstage the backstage doorguy wouldn't let me in. Jason walked up and I went in with him even though he didn't know me from Adam. I could've been any liar trying to get backstage. Nice guy. At a later date I was at a Lilys show and he was sitting alone downstairs and I took some photos of him that are on my flickr site. Thanks for posting this. Freaking amazing. Glad I got to see them a few times.

  • These guys came in (with Jason Falkner) and did some songs at our radio station (I was at WHFS in the 90s) on the Spilt Milk tour and their harmonies and performances were absolutely perfect. Four part harmonies with absolutely no mistakes. Amazing. I sat listening to them as they rehearsed in our meeting room beforehand and was stunned.

  • I miss these guys so much. Best band of the nineties and absolutely the most overlooked band in rock music history.

  • i love them they are not under rated they are the best thing ever!

  • Brilliant group. SPILT MILK is certainly one of the great albums. Combining the greatness of Beatles, Beach Boys and Queen into a modern sound. Great songwriting, singing, playing, arranging and production. Perhaps too smart for their time. Right up there with Big Star and Badfinger as one of the great Overlooked.

  • Is/was there another band of their generation with so much talent vocally, lyrically and musically?

  • @heavydq NO!

  • really really good!

  • I used to jam with Eric Dover at the Kat Klub in Hollywood. Cool guy and very talented.

  • My math teacher sings this to me everyday xD I guess that's what I get for being named Sabrina.

  • haha - that's funny!

  • mine to!!!

  • I so wish there had been an actual video for this song. This is my favorite.

  • And don't forget Eric Dover on guitar, he went on to become frontman for Slash's Snakepit and what a great vocalist he is. Have a look for the songs 'Back and forth again' and 'Beggars and hangers on'.

    Talented b@£%^ds all of them.

  • was there every more brilliance than Jellyfish?!

  • no. way too under rated.

  • I think of Jellyfish as similar to the very best Cheap Trick e.g. "So Good To See You" or "I Want You To Want Me"

  • Yes, you can hear some of the great Trick influence... Can you hear some of the Mozart/Bach too? Amazing band! Making the difficult look so easy and sound so free! I wish my band played like this!

  • I can certainly hear classical influences as well ! They were so talented

  • Speaking of the main influences of Jellyfish... They said, of course The Beatles, but Cheap Trick, Supertramp, and Queen... Of which, Cheap Trick is still together after almost 40 years and just released a new CD on 6/23/09.

  • I didn't know jelly fish;I discovered them just now,and I realy love their music,voices!!!!!!

  • The chorus is pure Ben Folds, you can tell Jellyfish had an influence on him.

  • Their little club concert from Atlanta when keys / synths went out leaving them "naked" was still one of the most memorable live performances I have seen . What a great band they were fully deserving much wider recognition - beyond the circle of us who were lucky enough to hear their music.

  • I miss Jellyfish. I miss the rare magic that Andy and Roger had in those brief years making Jellyfish music. They were an amazing live band (saw them 4 times), and even better in the studio. Too bad they imploded.

  • This song reminds me of both Maxwell's Silver Hammer and Penny Lane by The Beatles:)

  • Absolutely amazing! Jellyfish is the most overlooked band in rock history. If Spilt Milk had been put out by Queen itb would have been considered a rock masterpiece. As far as I am concerned Bellybutton and Spilt Milk are masterpieces.

  • Singing lead and playing drums is hard enough. Singing lead and playing drums standing up is insane!

  • It makes me wonder if he can play sitting down. I mean, some people learn to play an instrument a certain way and only feel comfortable playing that way. Maybe he learned to play drums standing up for some reason? anyway, he rocks. where is he now?

  • Andy played all the drum tracks in the studio sitting down.

  • cool to know! thanks.

  • He's where all the money is for 90's pop stars: Making music for Disney kids shows! I kid you not (no pun intended).

  • @Keanes70 I heard Andy is now a highly sought after producer in the Music bizz, but I'm not sure

  • So sereeeeeene!

  • Absolute genius.

  • I love this band, but I've always thought that Roger Manning Jr would make a semi-hot chick. No disrespect, but he could put on a dress, and be picked up in any bar in the world.

  • Maybe by you.

  • Chesny's looking dapper in his brand new dunce cap, strolling down the runway to an "F". She's a loveatarian especially in the form of Puppies! Incredible writing in this song. You can't teach this stuff...it's a gift.

  • Spilt Milk is literally the greatest LP ever recorded. Hands down. That's insane to say given all the amazing bands that come to mind when one says that, but think about; Jellyfish just outdid everyone on that record. It's not even music, it's like an experience or something. At the risk of starting sound even more pretentious, I'll just end my post here.

  • I agree it sounds shocking on the surface to say it, but personally I have to agree. I didn't give it a fair listen back in '93 when I was in my early 20's. But I was STUNNED when I put it on a few weeks ago after 14 years. It's INCREDIBLE. If ever there were an album worth evangelizing folks for, "Spilt Milk" is it. Jellyfish is everything we love about all their influences, but without pretension. And by God,it's FUN. Imagine: FUN rock n roll.

  • Agree..best production EVER...there is no cleaner..the standard for any sound system..it is so rich in the variety of tones..Even the feedback is obedient and on its best behavior

  • Spilt Milk's been used at studios on Sunset Boulevard for years when they set up their base levels.

  • I got the box set as well and it does say in an interview with Andy that Spilt Milk was used to balance speakers and so forth. Roger is actually credited for writing and arranging the tune "Hush", saying he offered the demo to Andy for consideration, needless to say it "made the cut".

  • well it was a great work though JF took the best influences of some pretty accomplished pop bands such as Sparks, 10cc, The Move, ELO, Big Star, and Badfinger so there were some great pop band efforts prior to Spilt Milk. But I do agree that it was a great record

  • i would describe the Jellyfish sound as influenced by Queen, Beach Boys, Beatles, and the circus.

  • I think of all my favorite albums ever, any genre, and there are many. You got hundreds of bands in there that come to mind... but if I were to be stranded on a desert island, without any music, Spilt Milk is the one record that I would miss most of all.

  • I agree.

  • I can't go against that. Its definitely ONE of the greatest. The only one that seriously challenges it on all those levels- performance, production, arrangement, etc is XTC's Oranges & Lemons.

  • But who do you think influenced them besides the Beach Boys and Beatles, I'm sure we can say Jellyfish since they new who they were at the time and both were being used in the same sentences, I'm still scratching my head on that one.

  • @cstefos Yeah Spilt Milk is a masterpiece. Noy sure if I would call it the best greatest ever but definitely the greatest of the nineties.

  • Ha that roll call thing was weird, great performance

  • Tim Smitth looks like he is trying out for a Fab Four cover band and Eric Dover looks like he just came home from a night of smack.

  • HAR That's so true.

Anyone else think they should have played the bit of rock'n'roll in the song a bit harder?

  • one of the greatest bands ever..

  • Love this song <3

  • I don't know weather to laugh or cry.

  • Out of all the band reunions and bands getting back together from Van Halen, to Dinosaur Jr . . . this is one band that really needs to put aside it's past "Creative Differences" and just get back togehter! 2 of them were brothers , Eric Dover is working on a tribute album to the band , I don't see why they can't get past their past hurt feelings.

  • so true man, my thoughts exactly!

  • I love this song.

  • oh...

    ok.

  • Who is Jellyfish? I seriously have never heard of them.

  • who is this?

  • It burns me that I was unaware of them and could have supported them while they were still together as a band...But often this is the case of musical greatness...All I'm left with is..thankyou Jellyfish!

  • There's a Jellyfish tribute album coming out soon - there's a page on myspace - if you're interested do a myspace search on : jellyfishtributealbum

  • THIS IS GREATNESS!!!!

  • It's amazing how well they pulled off their music live.

  • Never realised roger sang most of this song, listening to the cd again I'm perplexed how I missed it. Great vid too.

  • Roger was suddenly emerging as a primary or lead vocalist with Spilt Milk. It seems as if this whole thing was changing with Roger inevitably at the boards. Let this be known, Roger shaped the sound of Jellyfish at least where it was starting to go. His vocal work/ arrangements is known to have graced both albums with his pristine piano/keyboard songwriting chops and perhaps some lyrics too. This was clearly becoming a Lennon vs McCartney-type feud.

  • roger, is that you?

  • This is so awesome! I remember when they came out and most of my friends thought they were another hair-metal band, but after playing "Spilt Milk" we were all hooked on Jellyfish's note perfect music. I regret never getting to see them live and also wish they would reunite.

  • I've never heard a song I didn't like by Jellyfish... they were just - so - damned - BRILLIANT. I miss them.

  • love it - the small logo says "bayrischer rundfunk" - is this part of a whole concert that was recorded in germany by german tv? sound quality is ok - please post more!!!

  • @fab234 yep: part of a whole concert ... funny that 2 of the best live performances available (Video wise) are from german television. JF performed over here during the 1990 (i think) and 1993 tour

  • One of the best bands ever. The first time I heard this song I was hooked. I must have played it on repeat 1000 times.

  • my second fav from spilt milk(joining a fanclub the first). great band ....saw them in coogee, sydney,Australia a long long time ago and hung out with roger for a pizza....awesome musicianship and wish i had a vid cam then....they were the closest thing to pet sounds era beach boys...and yet totally original too...thanks for posting all these great vids.

  • You are right about the grunge thing..I was in LA at the time and as excellent as this band was, nobody would really listen to how enlightened they really were. Thanks for all of these great clips..

  • The flipping photos in the middle were very Brady Bunch. There was something very appropriate about that.

  • I LOVE THIS! first live footage ive seen.. saw them twice when i was a pup..jellyfish is my alltime favorite.

  • ANdY Sturmer has a myspace profile. Just type in his name and you'll fing it. It has a purple picture as his profile picture. Let others know they can find him on there too. And then encourage him to have a Jellyfish reunion.

  • so for those who saw both band lineups (like me)which do you prefer. Me, I liked the first. While the second was musically superior, (except for jason) the first lineup seemed to have alot more fun playing gigs.

  • I love(d) this band. Should have been as big as the Beatles. Brilliant. Brilliant. Brilliant....

  • most underrated band in the history of the music. two classic albums. then they just disappear. to this day Jellyfish is the only music i still hear from the early 90's. It's timeless! the closest thing today is - http://www.myspace.com/rogerjosephmanningjr. buy this CD! Absolutly amazing. one of the best CD's of the year. The Jellyfish legacy lives on!

  • Absolutely brilliant ! Just a real shame that this band were so original at a time that every fuck was into the grunge thing. Still I love 'em and ain't that all that matters????

  • YAY! Keep 'em comin'. Also, Roger looks like Taylor Hanson in the "roll call" thing at the end. So cute!

  • ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!

  • I love you, lickylike!!
