If you're a blademaster, stomach is its weakest due to your weapons length it can not reach its back.

For gunners, there are places in the fortress where you can tower yourself and aim for its back. It's the weakest and it can flinch Lao easily.

it doesn't attack, the mission objective is to kill it before it gets through the castle and before time is up.

Wait sec, It isnt to kill it. Just deal enough damage until time is up. When time is up it will back off if you've dealt enough damage and quest will be cleared.

If you have twin swords or hammer, attack the stomach. If you have a bowgun, attack the back with cluster, crag, or flaiming shot. If you have a great sword, attack the head.
