can someone explain to me how you can be anorexic and bulemic? it's my understanding that in order to be anorexic you don't eat at all (or you eat very very little) and to be bulemic you eat a lot then throw up. therefore aren't they mutually exclusive?

From my experience, a person feels so out of control with their life that they start to control how, when and what they eat, don't eat or exercise in attempt to gain some sort of control. Eating disorders aren't diets (not saying you said they were), they are an extreme form of life control.

I think she's trying to get to that petite, narrow form that a lot of girl's have, but the fact of the matter is she has wide bones in some places like her hips and cheeks. She should accept that it's just the body she has. And frankly nowadays a lot of girls would kill to be able to have a small waist and still have wide, curvy hips because that's seen as sexy now. (at least in high shool aha). She could be really cute.

@leoalimessi You obviously have studied nothing of the various behavioral and physical predispositions to why certain people get certain types of eating disorders, including structural differences in the brain. Then, of course, the low body weight, starvation, and malnutrition of anorexia nervosa lead to neurochemical changes, and she can't control her behavior anymore. Don't judge people with ED's by regular people who crash diet and feel bad about themselves.

Whenever someone cuts me off in traffic, I'm sure the other driver is not anorexic. Hurting other people is probably the hardest part of having an eating disorder. @SaranDobby I don't think it's media. We all watch the same TV. It's an attitude of willingness to submit oneself to others' judgment, probably encouraged by parents. I believe caring too much about what others think contributes to anorexia. Anorexics will see a picture of a thin model and think, "I have to look like that, I better lose weight," while a healthy person thinks, "You expect me to look like that? Yeah, right." I think anorexic people haven't developed comfort defying expectations.

Ignorance is truly bliss. Eating disorders are mental disorders, not something someone chooses to have. That would like saying someone with bipolar chooses to be incredibly angry or incredibly happy. Eating disorders make the sufferer feel so distraugt, alone and ashamed that they will act in extreme manners to alliviate these feelings. That is why thet act the way they do.

@BirthKiller I'm not completely sure, as all people with eating disorders are different cases. Eating disorders are more about control than anything, however. From my experience, a person feels so out of control with their life that they start to control how, when and what they eat, don't eat or exercise in attempt to gain some sort of control. Eating disorders aren't diets (not saying you said they were), they are an extreme form of life control.

Some people are more prone to the disease such as someone who tends towards perfectionism and gives it their all in something but not everyone who is driven like that develops a eating disorder. However, they are very hard to treat if a person like this develops it. Some form a eating disorder to cope with the chaos of living. Girls are conditioned by the society they live in to be a certain way. It was not that long ago that being fat was seen as beautiful
