I don't get why people say Raiden is whiny and gay. The pretty boy looks? Dante from Devil May Cry and ALL MALE LEADS from the FINAL FANTASY series are "pretty boys" and they are not labeled gay! He complains and is prone to emo-like outbursts? He was a child soldier and was thrown into a mission as a naive rookie who was kept out of the loop as to the events occuring: I think he's entitled to a complaints, frustration, anger, and anxiety! But... he doesnt yet hold a candle to snake; snake is jaded as fuck, an old bitter soldier, stoic like a motherfucker, mad history, deep scars, yet somehow innocent. In MGS4 you play as him old and broken, just waiting for him to die-- it's so awesome!! And he's one of the few characters who can pull all of that off without being cheesy. If the new game is POST mgs4, then i think raiden can have enough street cred that showing his human side again would be cool.

Fun trivia fact: Konami went out of its way to keep Raiden's inclusion in MGS2 a secret until the game came out over here, going as far as to replace Raiden with Snake in the teasers. While Raiden appeared in a few trailers in his scuba gear, his presence wasn't as emphasized.
As I prefer Snake I don't think Raiden was all that shabby... All my friends say Raiden is gay and Raiden sux etcetc... but hell I don't see what's so wrong with him!
Raiden's cool and all, but I just don't think that any Metal Gear games set after MGS4 will be the same without Snake. I heard that MGS4 is the last canonical game that'll feature Snake, and that's it.

Hideo Kojima used Raiden to avoid depicting Snake as the rookie and in my opinion, he did right.

I like MGS2 but i reckon it should of had the "playable" Snake for longer, say for about half the game, rather than 1/5(Tanker Chapter)of it. But still, one of the best games i have ever played. The Metal Gear Solid series has the best characters, story and music in the history of gaming imo.

i think its the difference in cultures that makes raiden less appealing to western audiences. ok dude u seem to have not played all of the metal gears. The main person is snake. Raiden ruined MGS2SOL cause it didnt have a great plot or storyline with him. It is snake that is the greatest. He is a legend. How does enhancing the story line ruin a game. Does it really matter that they CHANGED a skin for a character and your not playing as snake. ok dude u seem to have not played all of the metal gears. The main person is snake. Raiden ruined MGS2SOL cause it didnt have a great plot or storyline with him. It is snake that is the greatest. He is a legend. Raiden is just a rookie.And you need to realize as raiden... he was a pick out of the government.Now im not a raiden hater at all...but Solid Snake is the main character and the one with an amazing story line. Yes raiden will be kickass in #4 But even if snake dies he will be rememberd.

...I myself really liked Raiden. He did actually have a well thought out and deep storyline, and it was nice seeing the story, and Snake from a different angle other than Snake himself.

Only about 25 percent of people truly hate him the other 75 are just lying about it. Theres not difference between him and snake gameplay wise. So I have to say get over it(not to you)

How does enhancing the story line ruin a game. Does it really matter that they CHANGED a skin for a character and your not playing as snake. Well I know that everyone that hates him usually say it to be "cool" but truly hes is a fine character that even though you say sucks made MGS2 a very enjoyable game.
