  • they just marinate!....till were ready AGAIN! mmmmmmmmmmmm

  • This music still sounds as fresh as the day i first heard it. Todd Rundgren is amazing!

  • The best !!!!!!!! Still !!!!!

  • lol

  • Went to our own World Series of Rock! Todd was awesome!

  • when I was 17, The Hermit of Mink Hollow camw out : I bought it and was so impressed with the way he bared his soul that I wrote him a fan letter (c/o Bearsville Records) and enclosed a Gibson plectrum (pick)..I didn't get a reply though. But never mind. I still have 7 of his albums :)

  • Just posted a video response of him doing this last night in the ATL...fabulous!!!

  • What a great piece of triivia. We need more men like him.

  • Greatest song ever. Runs through my head randomly from time to time and I start singing it in the car, in the house, wherever.

  • Best there ever was? Sounds like you think he's done. He's still touring and

rocking harder than he has in years. He will be touring with the original Utopia line-up of 1974-1976 in November on the East Coast.

  • TR...THE BEST THERE EVER WAS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A true genius and a great person.

  • Pure Genius.

  • this is fantastic.....oh

  • Epic share, thanks!

  • how did he know that liv was steve tyler's kid? blood test? because personally, we think she looks like todd not steve. honestly, her beauty comes from todd.

  • I love Todd....there's no other music that has been this good for my soul, his music has been such a big part of my life, every one of his songs has applied in one way or another and it always makes me feel better when I listen to his songs, and I'm passing it on to my kids and grandkids, they must know Todd!!

  • @spiderplant12 You need to check him out, I've seen him live so many times I lost count, Met Kas in random circumstances, cool dude, Find a way, they still tour, worth the trip.

  • one of a kind , i was 14 when i heard utopia on the radio on a late night rock show and fell in love with his style of guitar playing , bought the vinyl the week after ( special order , sorry we havnt heard of him ) and its still one of those special albums , love it to bits

  • I met Todd at the Orpheum Theatre in St. Louis after a show he did at the Orpheum Theatre with Joe Jackson. What a great talent and person. He is one of the ultimate influences on me and my bandmates. He is one of the very best people at what he does and it is that simple! Paul Brown

  • @spiderplant12 musical genius ,,, master of sound

  • I will never understand why this song wasn't a massive hit. No matter what anyone tells me. This should be played at every sports game and in the credits of several beloved films. This should be in all inspirational slideshows and a karaoke classic favorite. It wasn't, because Todd didn't force it to be. I will never understand why, but that's why we love him. In writing this song he created an anthemic masterpiece, and I guess that was a victory in itself. Besides, he only asked for just one.

  • PUT THIS MAN ON TV or something!!!!!

  • @lorriutopia First concert video of Ytopia/Todd was on MTV

  • This dude is way awesome...but of guys sitting around afghanistan watching this and really loving it. Rock on Todd dude

  • Todd is God!

  • @Snookiebear713 we use to say Todd i GODD!

  • Todd is God!

  • When Todd moves to the next plane , the world will realize what a treasure it has lost , and will weep.

  • @peterm3964 Amen to that.

  • luv tr...serious about prince? hahah..plz let me know...i remember reading that prince was influenced by Todd...but...that is funny if true

  • Why isn't this man in the HOF!!!

  • LOVE HIM!

  • Prince is in the front row. He's short. And darker than his neighbors. He's easy to spot.

  • oh, and i'm sorry, sneaig... but, i met todd and bebe and baby liv in a parking lot up in woodstock and gave todd one of my paintings and i always felt like he was the real father of that child. either way, he's certainly , by far, the classier musician/artist of the"two". love him , always will.

  • What a friggin musician, writer composer, arranger, and vocalist. Mr. Rungren I am here to pay my respects to you.....

  • Just a pity the video and sound quality isn't better as this is a historic gem. Faboulous.

  • no a wizard,a true star

  • Todd is wearing his Tubes shirt at the end, courtesy of Michael Cotton and Prairie Prince.

  • Is this from the " Back to the Bars" Tour? I've seen Todd five times. We saw this tour in Coon Rapids ,Mn at Thumper's Bar. I just posted this song to rallty the troops in California as they fight for equality. Todd you are and always will be a Wizard, a true star!

  • This glorious obscure anthem simply one of the best songs ever!

  • COME ON LETS GO ...WE WILL BEAT THE TRAFFIC...FUCK THE TRAFFIC IM STAYIN !! i never left.

  • Low 5 @ 3:05 cracks me up.

  • HERE YOU GO,ONE OF THE CLASSICS AGAIN,ENJOY THE MEMORIES AND THE SOUND AND THE TIMES.LIFE IS GOOD

  • I saw Todd Rundgren & Utopia at the Poplar Creek Music Ampitheatre in Hoffman Estates, IL. in 1985 or 86, as a 5th or 6th grader, incapable of fully appreciating the musical complexity and finesse of such a gifted artist and his band. At the time, Kiss, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, & Van Halen were about all I could really digest at that stage in my life.

  • one of the best songs of the show(s), it still gives me goose bumbps when i ihear it. manyMANY GREAT< GREAT memoried ,also some of the saddest moments, you know it's over at this piont

  • I've made my choice Todd.

  • I always wondered if he could do stuff from the "Wizard" album live and there it is! Friggin' genius and then some!

  • For how many times I've watched this, I still laugh every time I see his face at 8:08

  • @bowserb61

I LOVE that face! All through the years he always made that face at certain special times, and it always made me so happy and laugh. Todd is a national treasure.

  • One of the best tracks EVER, loved it since it's release and unfortunelty it resonates still.

  • Todd comes from an area of the country and a culture that always believed in working for what you earn. I'm sure he has money but I doubt he really values it above other things like creating good songs.

  • Saw a live performance of "Just One Victory" a month ago in Amsterdam and it as great as ever!

  • @tljan Amsterdam?Dam!! I'm jealous! ;)

  • I 1st heard this on the Alan Freeman BBC Radio One show in 1975 at the age of 15. Todd has been part of my life ever since. Thanks for posting .....brilliant doesnt do this justice.

  • heh! It was Sunburst Finish off Ra for me, 1977, Nicky Horne on Capital Radio. What a world it opened up...

  • Genius.

  • pretty awesome....

  • Todd is a true genious. He's financially secure. He professes that "Bat Out of Hell" is his cash cow. He said one day a check for $800K just showed up in the mail related to BOOH. His real showing of love is how he raised Liv Tyler as his own child and then took her to an Aerosmith concert to meet her real father. He loved BeeBee Buell and Liv. What a "Real Man".

  • @snealg ..True - that is a REAL MAN! I read that it crushed him when the news came out (could have been handled better?) that Steven was really Liv's father...and she changed her name. The article stated that he cut off all relations from Bebe...since then. It's as though his life's work, raising Liv...was eradicated. Had to have broken his heart!

  • If it had been me...I would never have dropped Todd's last name. He was kind enough to give it to her, and care for her. A good compromise would have been to hyphenate it. Yeah, Rundgren is a 'clunky' name, comparatively ;-)...but, such an honor. He didn't HAVE to do that for Liv and Bebe...he chose to...What a heart!

Bebe said that no matter how broke Todd was....Liv always had tuition (to private schools) and school clothes. She was well taken care of - before anything else.

  • @Suzykansas AMEN on all of your comments!!! Todd is TRULY LIv's father. I have lived the very same situation. Hope that she recognizes...

  • @snealg Not quite the real Liv story .. but he is brilliant!

  • @snealg my respect level for Todd went up bigtime when I read about how he treated Liv Tyler. That's a standup guy for you, for sure!

  • @snealg - truly agreed - love love todd rundgren since 1975

liv tyler is a beauty - two great dads....

  • @snealg I've been a Todd fan since the '70s but had never heard that story. Where can a guy get more bio info on him?

  • Comment removed

  • @snealg Amen to that! Great musician - great person!

  • @snealg I never liked the 'Todd is Godd' stuff, but I think he's a little better than most of us mutts.

  • @Smackdaddy9 nice post he's is a cut above

  • @zappadead13 I'm glad you think so. Of course, Todd fans are better than the mob.

OK, Zappa fans too, although I don't really get it.

  • JUST ONE MORE TIME....

  • Todd Rundgren is scary smart and, at the same time, good-time goofy. Too awesome for words, really.

  • Do you think so?

  • Todd is such a MASTER & GENIUS.Overlooked Ignored, and Misunderstood.

Todd Rundgren needs our support RIGHT NOW More Than Ever! Not finacially secure after all he has accomplished in the Music World and Computer World. Please support shows buy merchandise & spread the word.

Also please click periodically on his myspace music page. Help HIM RISE 2 this OCCASION !!

    ROCK LOVE,

    CHERRY XOXO

I am on Twitter too supporting TODD using same Username Just Loving Fan

  • @chelababy1 All praise due to Todd, a true inspiration. But if he isnt financially secure by now, something is really awry. He either needs a better lawyer, better advice, or something. Just one victory. Todd is best in the place he seems most eager to leave: great melodies. Ironically enough, if there isnt an analog component to his work- a guitar or a piano, for example, the Art suffers. I would give anything to advise him now. I could make him a ka-gillionaire, easy.

  • EVERYONE tried! He just had to do things his way. Unfortunately...'his way' wasn't the best...from a business sense. It makes US (fans) happy...but, most music professionals want to strangle him LOLOL.

  • Thanks, rundgrenfan! First saw Todd/Utopia in '77 in Philly, this brings back alot of good memories.

  • wouldn't it be great if the record industry would start playing his songs and he'd win a Grammy..holy freakin' christ, now i'm gettin freaky..LOL

  • A great video ~ my all time favorite (of oh soooooooooooo many!) Todd songs!!! I can't wait to see him tonight, with my best girlfriend from HS in NJ, that I am meeting back up with from 31 years ago!!! We ALWAYS went all over NJ/NY to see Todd, sometimes not even knowing just HOW we were getting back! Boy, if my parents ever knew!!! What a blast from the past it will be tonight, for both reasons!!!

  • What lovely guitar-playing. I'm not being sarcastic, either. When he breaks into that solo, it's like a beautiful dream...

  • Back to the Bars-THE Best!

  • simply brilliant - had tears streaming down my face to this at RFH London on liars tour. Thanks Todd for 30 years + of joy

  • Does anyone know where to buy the Disco Jets album?

  • this is beautification

  • Genius is to small a word to describe this mans music career, but there it is.

  • takes me back to my teenage days.great video reat song.i still got several of todds and utopia albums must play them again.remember there version of ' something' from west side story - awesome.

  • I was at the Cleveland Agora and you can hear me yelp on the 'Back to the Bars' LP.

    So, suck it, Nostams.

  • I'm 48 now. In my 20's I saw Utopia no less than 16 times. EVERY show was great.

  • ur lucky, i'm 38, i've seen todd no less than 16 times. never saw Utopial. My ex tells me stories. Todd Rocks!! Gonna see Kaz next friday.

  • you are both luckier tha n me im 14 ffs! i love this music though and have been raised on it =]

  • @Nostams YEAH IT WAS A COUPLE CRAZY SUMMERS BACK THEN WASNT IT?

  • I saw Todd do this tune in 1979 in Melbourne, Australia and I gotta tell you...he rocked it out! I love this song. Nuff said...

  • superb

  • Insanely awesome guitar tone

  • Thanks to Todd, Utopia and rundgrenfan! They don't make concerts like this anymore!

  • Rungren was the Phil Spector "Wall of Sound" equivalent for the 1970s Progressive Rock era. Zappa achieved something similar in the studio but Rungren could do it live. Gong, with a similar acid-influenced but more jazz-rooted sound did something similar in Europe at the same time. I was 15 and this was my stuff........gosh, memories!

  • Todd held the fountain of youth in his music! saw him like 5 times in the 70's! forever young!

  • Saw him at Knebworth '79, hadn't heard him much before that - it was a revelation, a very talented man in a lot of ways.

  • @sludgefingers Same with me, what a great day. Been a fan ever since.

  • OMG!!!! Me too, dude. Saw him in Australia in 1974 before he went bersererk. Really enjoyed it. Utopia was simply awesome...

  • todd is it! REMEMBER! This is the way we need to be! PEACE!LOVE ALL

  • True that! Silly and naive as it may sound: If/when we are - utopia is here.

  • Fuck the R&R Hall of Fame.

With apologies to fans of "The Dave Clark Five," members of the H of F, can anyone really say that Clarks band had any musical influence (one of the criteria for getting in the H of F) that effected the career of any bands that came after them.

Todd doesn't give a shit about being appreciated, he just loves music.

This is obvious from the prolonged career of his own music to producing musicians from Janis Joplin to Meat Loaf.

    Peace.

    Rock

  • I love Todd's I'm only human I made a boo boo expression at 8:41. Golden !!!

  • Wow, this is a great version... Audience looks in tune...but then I remember once at a clb in Chgo. Todd did 6 shows and he joked that we probably put our heads down on the tables and slept between shows, so probably alot of these guys had been to more than one show huh? I'm glad I have a good Dad now (80 today!) but during my teen years Dad did NOT appreciate rock music, drank too much, and I was a "stoned little punk" . Now he wants my kid to be a rock musician! Kid says lawyer too!

  • he has some of the most complex progressions of anyone.

    that is real music

and his voice is so fiiiiiine

  • For oh so many years I thought I was a lone fan-hurray for the internet! (Obviously I'm no kid).

  • Hey,I live in the south.and my buddies teased me for listening to todd but, they are a bunch of knuckle dragging morons.Todd isn't God but, he's up there somewhere..

  • something/anything "BEST lp

  • Great music..great memories. Todd was

godd in my formative years. He remains so...

  • Gotta love the 70s and Todd concerts!

  • When I am King, this song will be my National Anthem. This tune, lyrically, contains every cliche there is. Yet, it is awesomely inspirational. Just another example of Todd's genious----"Hold That Line!" This is All Time Art, not merely craft. Todd is a world-class melody maker. Unlike McCartney, though, he is also incredibly bright, funny and ironic. It doesn;t get any better than this.

  • Todd Rundgren Is KING!!!!!

  • The best there is! Rock music how it should be done!!

  • Comment removed

  • Being the bigger man and not the same man is always a good feeling.

  • is this Liv Tyler??

  • After Bat out of Hell,Todd ,has more cash than Jesus!!!!

  • Bat out of Hell is the BEST Utopia album ever recorded

  • Okay, now THAT is hilarious. :)

  • Well, there is more than an element of truth in that - shame about the lead vocalist though.

  • Bat out of Hell is the best meatball I don't eat meat loaf. Do you bunnyhead71

  • Like they say, Todd is Godd.

  • We all need JUST ONE VICTORY at some time in our life. That one Victory can be the break that changes not only our lives but many lives. Me loves me some Todd!

  • Todd master of music, no one writes quite like Todd, so inspiring..............

  • always relevant. what a genius.

  • Damn good band.

  • One of my all time favorite composers and performers of all time!

  • if that is indeed todd on todd's shirt, then todd is incredible.

  • Todd...always!

  • is this from the king biscuit flower hour?

  • Can you believe that this man didn't even make the Rolling Stone's list of 100 greatest singers of all time? Unbelievable!...and his guitar playing's not too bad either. Nobody solos like Todd.

  • to hell with rolling stone! it's the FANS whose collective voice matters!

  • one of my favorite songs of all time...

  • He just gives me shivers and I'm not a homo.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. Other than being a homo.

  • Ah the irony of it all Smackdaddy9.lol

  • well, yeah...

  • Bob999,yeah his voice and his intelligence is somewhat captivating and soooo sexy~~~but if you are familiar with Todd's other music as his "singring glass guitar" or more others you would see his talent as a guitar genius~~

  • It's amazing how him and Daryl Hall sound so similar.Great song.

  • my most favorite melodic guitar solo ever and i love david g from pink floyd , brian may, clapton, page, hendrix

  • This is my theme song for tonight, election night. I'm not telling you who I'm voting for because I don't want to start an argument, but I'm looking for Just One Victory. Oh and I LOVE this melody.

  • Todd IS God I've loved him since the first time I heard AWATS. Todd IS Love To bad he's so underated as he gave more than 90% of his Contemperaries

  • Watching this reminds me how much I miss Utopia and how they'd end their set with this. Usta go see them outide at Central Park Summer Music Festival

  • To me, that guitar solo is mostly pointless J.O'ing, "guitar hero" B.S., contributing little to the song. (Sorry Todd. But hey, you wrote some great songs though dude, and your fine voice sounds far superior to your geetahr here!)

  • TODD IS GODD!

  • I love his melodies!! You can listen to his songs over and over and not get bored.

  • What a fucking GENIUS. He blows my mind.

  • I'm new to YouTube, but am a long time Todd fan. This song has always been an anthem to me. Love the song. Thanks for the video.

  • The show ended with "Just One Victory". Then they came back for an encore (after he had taken his shirt)playing a blistering "Just One Victory" guitar solo to end the show. And you're right Todd IS Godd.

  • You had me at "todds shirt disappears: - Eyes that have seen - know what I mean. : - ) thanks for posting this - Todd is back to guitar with new Arena album coming out. Check out his Myspace page. : - )

  • I was a total long-haired-youngest-child-romantic-geek in the 70's, first enamored younger with Hendrix, Sabbath, and Zeppelin, but the discovery of Todd made me feel okay. Still does.

  • its not that it sounds strange, it is so

  • Todd is a painter of life. With music and words he paints love, comfort, understanding. Still love his music so much after all these years. For every mood there is a song. The lyrics are so poetic. The music always get me back in the right good mood. Thanks Todd for colouring my days with your great fantastic music.Hope you come some day to Holland.

  • well said =^)

  • this is in response to rosmalen17's comment, just to clarify...

  • todd is god

  • the pilgrims of the earth, those with a heavenly home, understand this song...the corporations don't, the oil people don't, the Fed. Reserve doesn't, the media commentary mental manipulators don't...thanks, Todd, for giving us such inspired words...strength is what we are going to need in the days to come

  • Venceremos!!!!!

  • The best is yet to come!

  • And wont it be grand?

  • Todd so excellent in so many ways!

Can't wait to see him in July!!!!!!

  • Todd alway amazing! so much talent in 1 man!!!!

    Never stop Rockin' Todd!!!

  • I love it at 3:08 when Todd and Kasim low-five each other.

  • Must have seen Rundgren and Sultan (and Utopia) 20 times. I'm 46 now. The music sounds better now than it did then. That says it all!

  • im 19...and quite jealous of you!

  • 20 times; lucky you! I'm 48, been a huge fan for over 30 years and have only seen him twice. Wish he'd come to Canada more often.

  • "Ah, youth!..."(Joseph Conrad)

In my lifetime of experiencing rock performances it didn't get any better than this. Still hasn't.

  • best encore song ever!

  • brings me back to seeing utopia live back around 1980-brilliant to say the least....

  • The True WIZARD! Seen him many times, with Utopia, MANY years ago! I will never forget!

  • Yeah! Todd doesn't endorse politicians, ain't his style. He is a Musician.

  • the person who suggested that this song be used for a political campaign should be banned permanently from YouTube, iTunes, any music venue anywhere, iPods, CDs, vinyl, radio, TV, old turntables, any musical instruments and any other way to hear music. Not a true fan.

  • I think you covered every media known to man there. And you are exactly right. I'm about to go listen to this song on CD at maximum volume, at least twice, and then go to bed with a smile and gratitude in my heart for Todd, Richard Thompson, Duane Allman, Blue Rodeo, and a million other geniuses that have blessed my life. Thanks for appreciating the good stuff.

  • LOL

    todd is godd!
