@violet1197 he's armor was in lockdown, alowing him to go through space and fall from orbit safely. It also has a gel layer that took most of the impact of the fall.also, he was falling from orbit ever since the ending of the halo 2 game where cortana stayed back to blow up the flood infested ship while master chief escaped.

idk what scene ur talking about but to refrence there were more spartan survivors. There are spartans Kelly, Linda, Lt.Kurt Ambrose, Fred, and 1 or 2 more i cant remember off the top of my head. While 117 was on the 2nd ring(halo2) they were in cuba stopping the covs from stocking up on earth's supply of nuclear missles. Lord hood then recieved a trans: that a distress call from planet Onyx was triggered. The secret SpartanIII planet where they were trying to make a new batch of 300. 292 died.
