He looks very stuck up and like hes concentrating on his normal talking voice to make it sound deeper lol but on a good note verry very good at what he does i must say good job :)
Love your voice man, great explanation on it too. Definitely subbed. I checked out your band recordings and they are really good, great sound! Hope to hear more soon!!
i've been getting pain in my lower left back from screams, feels like the muscle. is that from too much emphasis on diaphragm or something else i'm probably doing wrong?
@InvictaMusic Well crap what the hell is wrong with my voice aha; if anything your speaking voice sounds deeper than mine. Kudos though, that's freaking awesome. If you don't mind me asking how long did you work for that range?
@SCMusic15 killswitch engage (with howard) and this calling both use exhale, more specifically false chord. trivium uses fry or power fry depending on what people call it
Dude like at first i didnt quite get what you were saying about how you do the distortion about how theres still singing underneath or whatever. Well i started messing around and dude! oh my josh i totaly get it know, yeah it did tickle but its been about a week sinse ive been practicing and it is starting do sound real good and im not having any problems with my throat like i used to when i tried to teach myself how to " scream " . Just wanted to say THANK YOU! :) <3
@InvictaMusic I have worked with a big time vocal coach for the last ten years and one thing i've learned is that what ur doing takes a lot of hard work and focus to get it down as good as you have for that style of singing.I love it and really like the song at the end. As for the negative white boy comment, I've found that most people that talk down about your singing are just people that wish they could do what your doing but cant....Keep up the great work, All the best...J
When you first started, i'm assuming your voice would be raspy afterwards, or perhaps a bit sore. However, at the end of your video, your ability to easily transit from singing to screaming is no less than astounding, you are a great vocalist. My question is, when you first started did you have to get your vocal cords used to screaming before you could sing clearly at the same time? Or was it natural for you to switch back and forth with no problem singing after your first attempts at screaming?
@Slim2J@Slim2J It's not difficult to switch from distortion and back because the distortion isn't produced in the same location in the throat as your singing pitch. Check out the other tutorial videos for a more in-depth explanation, and thanks for the kind words.
@Slim2J Yeah when you "scream" your true vocal chords shouldn't ever engage bro. I Scream Growl and sing all day and the only time my voice ever feels sore is when I get sick and cant stop coughing. A lot of people refer to them as "false chords". The same chords you engage when whispering.
I have woundered about a one thing a long time and I'll be happy if you can respond. how do skillet's ( john cooper ) sing. what part's du he use. what technique
yeah chino doesnt sound like hes killing himself at all....he switches from clean vocals to dirty like its nothing....he plays from his fucking heart and it doesnt seem to hurt him
He should have went one more stop and said they should stop altogether and not do it any more becasue there voice is not ment of that type of vocals style.
my screams are so much different lol. question: what if when i screamo scream, i'm actually like yelling but its still raspy enough, am i doing it correctly? like i went for volume cuz i wanted to be able to scream over my radio when me and a friend sing BFMV and i got a lot louder but its still like screaming cuz i know alot of people do almost whispering screams into a microphone
@rais3tong Yeah, they recently put up some screaming lessons with Michael Barnes from RED. They're not bad, if you can stomach being sold music products for 75% of it.
it seems like this is hard for girls. i have trained to go way down low for like metal grumbles from way down in the stomach, i hear that a lot in girl fronted bands like otep etc..but this noise from the second chords has been so hard. i am wondering if it just comes down to the adams apple. it has been really hard to get the gruff.
That's awesome, talking about his bottom cords, I didn't even realize.. I've been walking around using them when i was bored just making random noises, that's awesome :D
Sounds good, one problem... can't really figure out what the bottom voice is... I know how to get a raspy voice that hurts to do after a few seconds, but that is obviously wrong I suppose...
@Will403536 some metal bands have the best singers/ instrumentists you will ever find, look for progressive metal, Dream Theater, Helloween, Stratovarius, Allen & Lande, inteligent music with intelligent lyrics...
This is exactly what i need! at first,i couldn't sing metal at all, then i could sing something, but I always couldn't speak afterwords ... Then i figured out a way to save some of my voice, but it was not good enough . I started with a band, and to them i sound good, but i know it's not. and then i remembered that there's youtube to save my ass again! thanks!!!
amazing, there so much more to it than many people expect but then again who wouldn't know that if your getting into the whole screaming. but i think its the pure fact when you actually start you start to realize that everything youve heard was a little messed up. so if anyone should get into screaming they should listen to this first so they know that they wont be coming out with the same results they thought they heard or they expected from themselves.
Well Melissa Cross(queen of scream) suggests that using both sets of cords at the same time is far worse on the voice than a properly done fry scream.....though once you start singing after learning to fry and you work on these brett manning techniques your fry will shoot straight up and be way too high and strained so be careful with the vocal fry this I have no clue because I can barely do it.......but in trying to do this it is much less comfortable for me....
@ElegyForTheMasses That would be because usually our progressive metal isn't played on an acoustic guitar which was necessary for the video, haha. Check our MySpace for some less-random non-acoustic stuff.
Bro when I do it it comes out kinda like a whease with a tad bit trebble. I have practiced all types of screaming and I find growling to be the best. But I can't hit highs like u man. Is it like the fry scream?
Should it be kind of like a sigh? I tried it and it almost felt like I had to cough (if that makes sense)
I don't see too many girls "screaming" so idk if i'm doing it right or not
