They were just geometry with a blue-ish glowing texture on them. The eyelids were Nurbs spheres. I squashed them, parented them to the head joint, and animated the start and end sweep in the attributes to get the blinking.
Nicely done. Did you make it with Cinema 4D? Love the lighting and metallic textures. Also, lovely character animation. Did it take long to get the "flamingo" walk cycle going? I tried to do something of thats sort once, but it failed miserably.
all done within Maya as far as the 3D goes. The flamingo walking style didnt take too long, once you figure out the nuances of the character. Although it was very different than I originally intended. I wanted a kind of sparrow hopping animation with it. But it was my first real project, and also the first with bones so I didnt get to do all I wanted to.
i think the original ending is better. Usually main characters that die at the end of a film die by there own hands. He over came the bad guy for nothing. i think it actually feels more incomplete. but that's my opinion.
my one and only gripe is that it ends very fast when after he..(you know).. I know you want to keep it under 5 minutes, but a few seconds of tear-jerker music and a slow pull back could do wonders for this.
A Suggestion - speed up the opening credits a bit to make room for the more melodramtic ending that I suggested. Obviously, this is your baby, so don't do anything unless you want to. For all intesive purposes, I probably have no idea what I am talking about :P
I hope he had a non-volatile memory...
