some larger planes (not sure about this one though) the mains turn slightly for small amounts of side loading but that looks like a little much. Looks to me like it shoulda been a go around. but i wasnt there so im not saying one way or another. these guys have a lot more flight hours than i do and are more familiar with the aircraft.
seems like crab angle was too high and not much flare. Perhaps too much torsional stress all at once made the gear collapse. Honestly, as a fellow pilot, I might have gone around, just seemed like he wasnt even centered. Did he even try a little bit of side slip? I know Md11s can't do much slipping but a littel, like 5 degrees sure wouldv helped

?!? The pilot caused the gear to colapse by landing too fast, too hard and putting too much weight on the landing gear. Bad landing. Did I mention that the pilot landing was female. No coincidence.
Pilots did a good job i think, the gear was a piece of shit, it is supposed to stand that. Did they blame the pilots?

@GinoRc The main cause was the strong wind that were blowing that day,

@GinoRc
They ALWAYS blame the pilots.

@Metrodriver1987 this isn't a game, it's a government constructed recreation of the events that happened. lol.

what confuses me is what do pilots use to make a crosswind landing the rudder or the alierons? :S

Both. You yaw the nose straight with the rudder then roll slightly into wind to stop drift.

@9T6Q both.

That's a hard one..I fly but I don't fly anything that big. Generally just befor touch down with a crab
angle like that. you boot in a lot of rudder to get the plane centered befor letting it drop in.
but big jets respond slow to input. So i'm not
sure that would have worked.

main landing gear tilts in 747s, 777s, and A380 but only for taxi operatiions...

I'd definitely gone around and lined that up better. Good job getting the beast off the runway.

Did I say you were being sarky?
No. Now shut up and go learn something about landings and how that was an okay one, not an "awesome" one.
