  • Why did they have to get rid of all of the Big Boys? They were great engines. They even got rid of all of their Challengers except 3985. She's the only Challenger that still runs.

  • In 1950 I was an Engineer on an old Baldwin 4-10-10-2 eith Santa Fe Railway, all of these multi-boiler Steamers were powerful, there weren't very many on the rails due to the Diesel locomotives becoming more popular with the large Railroads. Awesome video of great memories.

  • The Big Boy was neither the largest or the most powerful steam locomotive built in America. The C&O Allegheny, class H8 2-6-6-6 owns that title. Read any of the books E. Huddleston has written on the Allegheny and especially his World's Greatest Steam Locomotives where he compares the Big Boy, Allegheny and the N&W's A class 2-6-6-4. Very interesting reading. Thanks for posting your video. BTW: Two of the Alleghenies have been preserved. 1601 & 1604. There are videos of both on You Tube.

  • my god man ur mike works just fine you dont have to YELLL

  • Theres one in my tiny town of Cheyenne Wy. :D

  • There is one in Dallas

  • wait is called big boy then you said she is the largest steam loco ever made lol

    good vidion thumbed up m8

  • i saw a 2-8-8-4 once and it wqas freaking massive i bet this was pretty big to huh?

  • big boy was not the largest

  • @steamingpoopfart Correct, i believ the PRR S1 was the largest if I'm not mistakin.

  • The Triplex was not as big as the Big Boy. It had very small drivers. There were many locomotives with more power then the B.B. The DM&IR Yellowstone, Yb6, N.P. 2-8-8-2 etc.

  • hey this is the real life locomotive of the one in trainz

  • i thought the virginian triplex was the biggest steam engine ever built there a 2-8-8-8-2

  • @DJ4000VOLT they may have 3 sets of drivers, but one set is on the tender. It's drive wheels are also smaller.

  • I've seen #4014 multiple times in Pomona and in the garden railway display they have have a large scale #4014 Its so much fun to use the whistle and relive history its a great engine but there are some parts of it that have been worn away over the years but what do you expect its an old locomotive

  • This is cool, but N&W Y6b had more tractive HP and it was made by N&Ws own shops.

  • You called the train a she. It is a he , Thats why the call it a BIG BOY.

  • I thought the big boy was built by the American steam shops

  • I SAW THIS IN PERSON!

  • isnt that the one in saint louis?

  • yep

  • cool, hopefully i'll be able to go up there and see that engine someday

  • The amount of drivers does not tell you ANYTHING about the size of the locomotive. Big Boys were the biggest successful engine. The triplex failed. The Big Boy also had a decent amount of speed which helped make it so successful.

  • COOL! I've seen 5 of the 8 survivors so far.

  • What ones?

  • I've seen this one and the ones in steam town, denver, cheyenne, and pomona

  • I've heard the one in Pomona is the best because the whistle is hooked up to comperssed air and you can blow it.

  • There's a video of that, just search for UP 4014.

  • @trainboy94 It is. There is a video of it on here if you look hard enough.

  • I have a scale model of the 4006 sitting over to my right as I type this, and by judging from the video- it looks like I got every detail of it right.

  • she is the one ?

  • 1 of 8 left

  • omg, that's a huge steam train!

  • I've been in the cab of #4012. Nice that you got to see this one cuz it's the one in TRAINZ2006!!

  • I was in the cab of this one

  • Nice! I forgot, doesn't it have more than 1 power reverse gear?

  • Yes
