In my opinion the fifa games on the 16bit consoles got progressively worse as they went along.Fifa international soccer (released in 1993)was very sharp for its time...and as fifa 94,95,96,97,98 came out on the snes and megadrive there were no real improvements made to the games.obiously when fifa 97 came out on the ps1 it was great,and on the ps1 and the n64 up to fifa 99 they where the no 1 footie game,but since the ps2 upward,pro evolution soccer is the best footie game out...very close doh.

Compared to more recent football games, this game has absolutely awful controls.. when you approach the ball, it feels like it has a forcefield around it so your player has troubles to actually to get the ball.. it's very sluggish all around. I enjoyed this back then, until I got ISS Deluxe, which absolutely destroyed Fifa. Respect to the substitute goalie of Nigeria XD ("Ooh that ball slowly crawls towards the goal line, what I'm gonna do? What I'm gonna do? Now it's even closer.. Oh I fail..")

As far as I can tell, there's not a great deal between the SNES, Sega 16-bit, nor PC versions in terms of graphics. All are extremely playable, especially when it comes to multiplayer.

defo the SNES version. I had the game and played the heck out of it. There are subtle differences (eg some graphics slightly bolder on the SNES game)

actually you could charge the keeper and score easy with that, just put your player in front of him as he's releasing the ball and hit the shoot button.. then post it :D

This was the best game ever! Did you know that the goalies are so dumb that when they go to throw the ball you can stand right in front of them and they'll throw the ball right at you and you can just kick it in? Oddly enough, that only works once, after that they seem to know that you're doing it and change throwing direction at the last minute.

This very old FIFA weren't bad.

But in my opinion in football video game history, GREAT football games ... only 3:

- Emilyn Hughes International Football (spectrum) still waiting for your review on this superb game

- Sensible Soccer (Amiga) should review this too, many joystick I've broken because of the hours playin this

- Pro Evolution Soccer (Playstation) since I found it, and I found it when it was called Goalstorm and then ISS and so on, I found how rubbish Fifa series were.

Fifa 97 on the PC was worse yet - you could tap one of the fire buttons (I forget which) as the ball flew over your player's head, and even though you don't touch the ball, the goalie is unable to touch the ball and just lets it in. A really odd bug that you have to restrain yourself from abusing on a regular basis.
