Green Day? How in the FUCK would they even come up in any way to the Germs? Green Day were a buch of fucking geeks I used to walk past on telegraph avenue on my way to get LSD all the time, a bunch of fucking nobodies who cash in on old ideas; wearing a damned rubber president bush mask, shit, like the Dead Kennedys didn't already do that with Reagan masks in the early 80's.. always debates on "what Punk means to me" in these things, who gives a flying fuck?! I'd say the difference here can be summed up in Darby's tattoo. Shane West's costume ink was along the same lines, but had more money behind it than Darby probably ever saw in one place, plus 30 years of being raised into a mainstream art form. NO ONE was doing it in '78: it was primitive. So, it had to be slicked up to look badass enough for people with no sense of context. Funny though, how the real Pat Smear had more stage presence just standing there, than a Hollywood actor could muster.

But much of what the Germs were doing had already been done and better. I've never looked at them as inventive in the least. This movie seems like an after school special, if you remember those. In LA, X was the band they should have made a movie about.

I didn't know much about the Germs before I saw this film. But I felt that I got to know them a little bit better as I watched this biopic. When I read some online reviews, lots of the Germs' fans were angry because the director didn't address Darby's homosexuality. However, I didn't think there was anything wrong with that. After all, an individual's sexuality doesn't define who they are.
