LOL its fucken funny how people hate on this movie now days, when back on 1999 they were crapping in their pants with it, doing cosplay, lightsaber fights outside the theater, watching the film over and over, buying star wars toys, bottom line: BANDWAGON fans
I think the reasons why most people hate the prequels are usually for these three reasons:
1) Jar Jar (that's a easy given)
2) Emo Anakin (which is stupid to hate, I mean come on, his mother died and he tried to stop his wife from dying as well; hell I would cry too.)
and
3) Too much politics (how in the hell can you explain how the dictatorship in the original sagas formed without explaining it by showing the downfall of a unified government?)
How can people call them selves a Star Wars fan if they can't appreciate the original trilogy AND the prequels. They're both amazing in ways and made the whole legend of Star Wars complete.

i love how the first three episodes lead in to episodes 4, 5, and 6 even thought 1,2,and 3 are the prequels and 4,5,6 are the originals. When I first watched 4,5,6, they were awesome movies but there were so many questions that needed to be answered. So i love how 1,2,3 answers those questions. but, in all, I am a big star wars fan from the start.
Midi Chlorians do not give a jedi his power. The force does, the midi-chlorians is more like a energy drink to the force, never in the movie did it say that the more midi-chlorians you have the more powerful you will be, it just means you have that kind of potential, because skill and focus is another important factor as well.
Look at Anakin for example, he had more midi-chlorians then yoda, yet yoda could had beat him any day.

1= Midichlorians are not the Force. In Episode IV Obi-Wan Kenobi said "The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us, penetrates us, and binds the galaxy together" so i think Midichlorians are more like a fuel sores to the Force, the mystical factor is still present.
2= In fact Yoda probably trained him after Jinn's death.Yoda also trained him to interact better with the Force(Episode III)

I'm about to be 20 and I saw this movie in theaters when it came out :D Must have been 2nd or 3rd grade because I saw it in California and I moved in the middle of 3rd grade. I was obsessed with this movie, the soundtrack AND Darth Maul, and still am. I can't describe the chills that went down my spine when Maul activates his saber.. omfg. me and my dad agree best Star Wars movie:) (And Jar Jar was a fucking mistake, we've always thought that) Doesn't stop me from loving this movie

When this came out, i could not believe it. Had got the vanity fair issue and read rumers but too actually see this. A new star wars film ! Recorded it off sky news and watched it over and over. No stormtroopers and bad dialogue didnt put me off. It was very dissapointing but not as bad as attack of the clones

Ok, everyone... the original Star Wars trilogy is pure film prestige and no other film can compare to them, but The Phantom Menace and the rest of the prequel trilogy are also film giants. Whoever put this trailer together should have won the best Oscar of all time. He made the most disappointing film of all time almost appear like a proper Star Wars movie.
I didn't say Episode I was "bad." I said it is subpar, meaning not AS good as most of the other films in the STAR WARS saga. But I still give it a solid three out of four or five stars. And I was just making a comparison to a movie that, unlike Episode I, almost everyone seemed to love like it was some gift from the moviemaking gods yet I could never see the appeal of. A preachy, self-absorbed exercise in down-your-throat politics with truly terrible, one-dimensional villains.
I wasn't even born when the originals were released. I grew up with this episode and then attack of the clones through to revenge of the sith. I loved them all especially this episode. I've got every episode on DVD and I don't see what is wrong with this episode?

I like the prequels. I know that they're not for everyone and I thought that the Plinkett reviews of the prequels were really funny. However, i think that if you don't like the prequels then you don't have to watch and/or criticize them.
This fucking movie was not only the WORST Star Wars movie in the series but one of the WORST movies to come out in the 90's. I can't believe anybody past the age of 12 would think this steaming pile of CGI shit was worthy of the Star Wars name. The acting alone was enough to make me want to vomit.
Jar Jar Binks didn't connect with that many fans. He was supposed to be comic relief, but many people thought he was more stupid than funny. If I were to remake Episode 1, I wouldn't remove Jar Jar completely, but he would be a very MINOR character instead of a larger supporting character.

2. showed anakins fall to the dark side
3. showed palatines ultimate rise to power
4. shooowed the birsth of Lea and Luke and them getting seperated and Obi Wan going to tattooine to watch over him, and bail organa adopting Lea

I don't particularly like Star Trek more or less, it's a franchise just like Star Wars. There are some great films and episodes and some utter crap that's as boring and shoddily constructed as this movie was.

When this came out, i could not believe it. Had got the vanity fair issue and read rumers but too actually see this. A new star wars film ! Recorded it off sky news and watched it over and over. No stormtroopers and bad dialogue didnt put me off. It was very dissapointing but not as bad as attack of the clones

Ok, everyone... the original Star Wars trilogy is pure film prestige and no other film can compare to them, but The Phantom Menace and the rest of the prequel trilogy are also film giants. I didn't say Episode I was "bad." I said it is subpar, meaning not AS good as most of the other films in the STAR WARS saga. But I still give it a solid three out of four or five stars. And I was just making a comparison to a movie that, unlike Episode I, almost everyone seemed to love like it was some gift from the moviemaking gods yet I could never see the appeal of. A preachy, self-absorbed exercise in down-your-throat politics with truly terrible, one-dimensional villains.

I wasn't even born when the originals were released. I grew up with this episode and then attack of the clones through to revenge of the sith. I loved them all especially this episode. I've got every episode on DVD and I don't see what is wrong with this episode?

@Dylanmthrfkr Same here, I grow up watching the prequels before the original and I really love them.The prequel's contain less witty humours compared to the original, still the story's great and much more enjoyable than some overrated films such as Avatar or Transformer.
Guess that people don't like the prequels just because they really love the original, and their expectations are extremely high after 20 years. So when their expectations are not met, they're disappointed.

Jar Jar Binks didn't connect with that many fans. He was supposed to be comic relief, but many people thought he was more stupid than funny. If I were to remake Episode 1, I wouldn't remove Jar Jar completely, but he would be a very MINOR character instead of a larger supporting character.
