You can only know why everyone loves Touhou if you play the games for yourself (6th or higher). You will regret it because it will be the only thing you do for a while. My favorite is 8 - Imperishable Night. It has mucho gameplay complexity, yet there are characters that make it easier for beginners.

Think of the rush you would feel running to the space between two trains going opposite ways, just barely making it. That's Touhou.

It's kind of cool that some one made a shooter that isn't about space or robots. Gensokyo is also cool. It's based on old-Japan, but they wear dresses instead of kimonos. And they engage in epic battles with each other... mostly out of boredom.

I got into the music first, then finally got TH6. It IS completely addicting, you WILL find yourself looking up strategies and videos, you WILL get strange looks from whistling the tunes to yourself in public (or maybe that's just me)

There IS only one (or was it two?) guys in the Touhou universe...Meaning that most of the girls are probably lesbian and I guess guys like that.

Also, try Touhou. It's REALLY fun. Just don't try any of the earlier ones...you may think it would be a good idea to start with the first one, but it isn't. Best I think so far is Touhou 6: Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, which is pretty famous for its Flandre bonus level.

Also, it's fan made, not original work by ZUN, so it's normal it cannot be as expected, but i saw it ignoring the superflashies thingy and similar, and i think it's a nice oav to watch, especially for the story, a bit sad in the ending.

For people wanting to know what this story's about, I'm gonna give a rough summary. It's been a few months since I seen this, so I may be a little off.

The Lunar Empire wants to create a vision called "Elysium", but it lacks one critical ingredient: the Hourai Elixir. So, a force was sent to bring back Kaguya-hime and Eirin back to the moon by force. Apparently, Sakuya is also a Lunarian and manages to persuade Kaguya to return. Also partially cause they want to meet an old friend.

That old friend being the black-eared rabbit. Continuing on, they meet this general who's in charge of the Elysium project. After a few turn of events, it turns out Elysium means the annihilation of Gensokyo. And the Hourai Elixir is like a fuel to make it happen. The black-eared rabbit was in league with the general. Naturally, the Eientei gang + Sakuay try to stop the general, who suggested the Elysium project in the first place.

They attempt, but failed cause the he drank part of the Hourai Elixir, which makes him immortal. But he can't contain it like Eirin and Kaguya and died. But the Elysium project cant be stop. The black-eared rabbit realised her errors, sacrifices herself to stop Elysium. Apparently, she wasn't truly evil cause she was taught and raised by Eirin's mother. After Elysium is stoped, the Lunar Empire gives up and returns to the moon, while the Eientei gang returns and peace comes back to Gensokyo.

Too much Gundam influence imo. I realize there's an army on the moon and such, but many of those scenes felt like they were taken STRAIGHT out of Gundam or Eva or similar.

Honestly though, if it was a bit longer, didn't try to cram so much into a short amount of time, and had a little more backing the animation, I'd say it could be very good.

... ditch the spacestation/computer/robo influence though. It just doesn't work with the rest of the Touhou universe. At all.

It was ok, except for Reimu's voice, and character inserts was a big let-down. Reimu's voice didn't seem to fit her (I think someone like Aya Hirano would be perfect, but unlikely for a doujin anime). No need for character inserts. Just stay with the characters ZUN made.

Uh, nope. The actual plot of Imperishable Night is that lunar emissaries are planning to come to Gensokyo to take back Kaguya. Eirin tries to stop this by separating the Earth from the moon and putting a fake moon in its place. Whoever you decide to play as realizes this and freezes the night in order to hunt down whoever's behind it and resolve the issue before morning.
