I think this is actually a post-modern art exhibition, incorporating avant-garde elements in both visual and musical experiments. By dressing in womens clothes he deconstructs the image of the rock performance as a male sexual display. His music is inspired by the work of 20th century composers in both jazz and classical music. He eschews steady time and the tempered music scale as Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane, and Harry Partch did before him.
At least he can strum those sixteenths with consistency. Don't underestimate the amount of talentless guitarists out there with a poor sense of rhythm.
what the fuck is wrong with contemporary views on what constitutes good or 'acceptable' music? he obviously isn't just playing open strings and even if he was the music he's creating sounds rather pleasing to my ears, i enjoyed this.
@DSoverPSP 1. It was a joke and not meant to be taken literally... 2. As for things I don't understand, I promote and organise local music events as well as working as part of an indie record label. So I have seen a lot of metal bands and their rhythm players, and in general they work on their right hand rhythms and neglect learning chords (as opposed to say alt rock or jazz players), when they can just play open D power chords. That's why this guy reminded me of them, case closed... 3. Peace
@MrColdShaadow Haha :) it's all in the dynamics, accents and swing, but I would expect a metal player to judge it on it's technical complexity... nevertheless I look forward to hearing it!
@jveezy18 why would anyone care if he's better than Lil Wayne is he a guitarist or does he play on stage with one so bringing some shitty commercial pop prick up makes no sense

@AbnormalImagery The fact that a sub genre of metal is even required to start with the word "melodic" to inform the listener there is a melody, because metal by default is non melodic, proves my previous point
I make fun because I can't take it seriously. It isn't about the subtle representation of human emotional qualities- folk of soul, or tight interplaying syncopated dance rhythms- latin or salsa, or exploring the vast array of musical colours- jazz
@AbnormalImagery More than a few emotions? I challenge you to find 2 different emotions, and provide links to musical examples, for Suicide Silence (and not different words for the same thing eg. anger and rage)
Hahaha and I'm a hipster for not finding any musical merit in metal music? That's exactly what I would expect a metal fan to say lol so predictable. I enjoy a wide range of music, metal (and all its offshoots eg deathcore) is pretty much the only thing I can't stand
@RobBrooksMusic if you want to see more than two emotions in metal stop looking at shit "metal" bands like suicide silence. look at amorphis- silent waters (sadness) korplikanni- vodka (happy party). and saying metal doesnt have a melody is quite stupid, look up iron maiden, metallica, the two bands mentioned above, and virtually all metal. the two bands you mentioned in previous comments are jokes and should not be used to summerize metal.

@psyckla5 No, because I disagree. I think metal is the new punk, and a lot of people are following for the big scene it has at the minute
It's funny how so many metal fans have become upset and can't handle a joke I made about open tuning. If I had said something like "I hear this guy's wife has 2 jobs, so he is more successful than most street musicians", I bet no street musicians would get so offended as to come whining on the comments, because they're not so uptight. It's a joke get over it
@RobBrooksMusic The funny thing is, that you sir are an ignorant prick, who knows nothing about music. The likes of Ron Jarzombek, Tosin Abasi, Alex Skolnick, Tony Macalpine, Yngwie Malmsteen, Vinnie Moore and many, many more would kill you at guitar playing. And its a funny thing that lots of schooled jazz musicians enjoy bands like Blotted Science, Meshuggah, Arch Enemy etc. Not to mention Kiko Loreiro is a metal guitr player too. His Universo Inverso is a masterpiece youll never understand.
I don't like metal so I'm no expert on it's current musicians, but I know this. Tosin Asabi plays many styles, I've heard his acoustic version of Paranoid Android with a double bassist, which is an ACOUSTIC cover of ALT ROCK. He plays with a former member of The Mars Volta which who are heavily influenced by SALSA. So he has a rounded musical taste, not just metal. Yngwie Malmsteem is neo-CLASSICAL, he is vaguely interesting because he draws from CLASSICAL music
@MrRuggo The fact is that any vaguely interesting metal styles are a fusion of metal and something else. For example, neo classical metal draws intricate harmonic progressions from classical music. But what does the metal aspect add to the music? Drop tunings as low as possible, awful distorted tones, drums that are too loud, a-melodic shred solos that are nothing more than technical exercises, and grunting vocals that sound like a human doing the impression of the lovechild of a dog and a pig
@RobBrooksMusic really? 1. Not all bands play in drop D. 2. I would like to see you play something like Black Gold Reign from All Shall Perish. Have fun playing that. I would love to see you try.
@MrColdShaadow 1. Most of the bands I personally watch at live gigs and local gigs that play in drop D, or something similar like drop C# or open bass guitar tunings etc, are metal bands 2. Okay, I will TRY to make a video cover of it, might take a couple of weeks but I wouldn't be much of a musician if I didn't accept... I can't sweep pick but I guess you got to learn sometime... so are you going to have a go at Minor Swing by Django Reinhardt because I would love to see you try that?
