  • nice trout

  • Sam's Outdoorsman is sponsoring TROUTFEST on October 1-2, 2011 at Big Bear Marina.Organizer- WON Magazine. Register online with them and Get your gears ready and be there for fun weekend!!!!!

  • just recently took a trip and caught 8 fish in a half day

  • Do you really need to fish 2 rods? In Oregon you'd be arrested and have your gear confiscated. Bring a kid with you next time.

  • @MarkoAbo

even with a double rod addon to your license? if that exists in oregon...

  • @MarkoAbo I always use 2 rods anywhere i go. As far as legality- in CA when you buy the license, you can have the second rod added for a small fee. It's absolutely legal. I think you should move to CA :)

  • my uncles house is right behind you

  • Nice fish!

I'm from orange county and I usually hit up bishop, mammoth, silverwood lake (more recently) trabuco and azusa canyon, but I never had the chance to fish in big bear. I guess because I prefer stream/river fishing over lakes.

What section of big bear lake is good through different parts of the season/time of day. Usually the reports say that people on boats trolling spinners or streamer flies work, but you seem to know the lake pretty well. Any hints before I venture up there?

  • @danielkang83

When you get to the construction site (right before entering Big Bear) make a left from the bridge (North Shore) . Go about a mile, and it's all good there for shore fishing! You can get a rental boat and trolling streamer flies should produce results.

From shore- i prefer floating bait . With nightcrawlers you open up your chances for all species, but i like trout and so floating bait usually does it pretty well.

Any advise for close by streams? I like flying Kern but 2 far

  • @komitas23 I love fly fishing but there isn't too much you can do around here. We don't have large open rivers like Kern.

Silverwood Lake is one place I can recommend (once the water levels rise up again. One of the lake pumps were struck by lightning several weeks ago so the water level is really low right now). If you go towards the end of the lake it turns into a pretty slow moving river. You can see trout feeding on the surface at times, but I usually use powerbait there.

  • you want to catch trout on Big Bear Lake Call John @ 909 585 4017

  • @shoupeng Shore fishing or boat?

  • do u need a license to fish over there or just can fish if you want cuz im gunna go up there for my first time

  • @smuggeler The only lakes you don't need licenses on are usually the privately owned lakes.

ie. Santa Ana River Lakes. You will need a license @ BBL

  • corn powerbait is the best! gotta love big bear!!! i got an 18 incher last time i went!

  • @socalbassboy . Thanks for comments. Yes, Big Bear is a great place. Check out my other vid. I got the Monster about a month ago, It was nearly 6 Lbs. And the fun part is i was totally "praying" for it not to brake my 2 pound line. But i got that one on a chunky chart by Gulp (Berkly) Last time i went there was about two weeks ago. Took my son with me. Got there at 6 am by 3pm we got the limit and took off.

Anyways, keep on cheking out as i will be posting more vids. in future. Best of luck!

  • @komitas23 yes i will,i do a lot of nigt fishing at big bear.

  • @socalbassboy Well, i did fish at night and it cost me my $150 PENN International rod. I was inside the tent when i hear the bell. By the time i got out (whihc was about 5 sec.) i saw my rod getting F@%^ airborn and it dove down in the water.... LOST IT dude. I was so freakking PISSEDD...My rod holder was a crap from Big 5 and so, that when i started my own business making rod holders. Ever since- 1,000s sold. I did a give away in Big Bear and some guys actually threw theirs away.. :)

  • i go there once a month got any tips 4 me i use night crawler

  • Comment removed

  • @bluenikki04 / Well, my set up is simple: My main line is 4 Lbs. and 2 lbs. on a tippet. which i usually keep at 2 ft. 1/4 size sliding egg and # 18 trebble hook. Also i use 2 rods and i will cast one far out, the other closer to the shore. The MOST important thing is- (if you are a smoker) wash your hands in a water and let dry before you bait the hook. Some peeps. don't pay attention to it but fish has well developed senses and if they smell anything but "lunch" forget it !

  • put ur rod pointed down wen ur reeling the fish..it keeps am from jumping and u dont lose em as easy...

  • xkill.. just noticed your comment. Actually by keeping the tip up you have more flexibility as you are using flexible tip of the rod to compensate for "jerks". Keeping it down means you have only the drag adjustment. Chances are higher to break the line.(at least in my case) as i always use 2lbs. tippet. But thanks for a comment !

  • @komitas23 i have to agree with yo ive never ever heard of keeping the tip down when reeling in a fish.

  • @lucasmorter . Yup. That was something new to me too. Maybe when you have a 50 pound line and same rod rating... it would not matter how you hold the tip.. but on sensitive lines - you got to use the flexibility of the rod. Thanks for comment. Check out my other vids. Got some "pretty fish"

  • nice ones, they dont stock in the winter, do they? cuz im guessing thos are holdovers, correct?

  • I am certain they are not stocking in the winter. So i think these are holdovers.... .

  • when did you go fishing was it in summer?

  • I go all the time including winter. Actually that's when not too many people go there and the fish there get's bigger and hungrier....

  • what type of bait are you using

  • Power Bait (Yellow Corn)

  • Thank you for letting me know you secret fishing hole. Will let you know my result on my next visit in a couple of weeks.

  • No problem and good luck. By the way next week (3-rd and 4-th i believe) there us a great event going on there. Lake will be stocked with allot of fish. Some will be tagged with $30K.. yup , $30,000 worth. and many other great prizes. Just an FYI.

I am getting ready.. to kill some trout.

    :)

  • That's fantastic. Can you tell me what is the location where you catch those fish. I am going to the Big Bear Lake for the first fishing trip this coming Sunday. Thanks.

  • North shore. When you get to the Big Bear, take left (from consturction site) and go about a mile. Anywhere there is good. But the time of the day is also important.

Before 10 am, from 2-3pm, and from 7pm till late. All this is good.

  • Komitas, my name Is Varuj , is there a way you can show me a picture or something on how you prepare your line, i plan to go this weekend to big bear and try to catch some fish with my dad, we normally try over by the bridge any other suggestions?

  • Varuj sorry for a delay in responce.

Use # 6 line on your reel ad 1/4 size sliding weigth and tie a swivel to the end. To the swivel, attach the leader # 4 about 3' long with a treble hook #18. Add your bait and throw as far as you can. Get the cold beer and ... kick back !

  • amazing...nice

  • NICE!! I love your rod holders! Did you make them? Or where did you get them? I want a dozen of them! Cool video, thanks for sharing

  • Hey J. Thanks for comments. I made these holders long ago. Right now i do not have an access to the shop but i will soon. I will keep you posted and if interested, we can work something out.

  • Sounds good I will sucribe to your channel and keep up with you. Thanks!

  • what u use for bait

  • Yellow corn by Berkely
