So...a 2 scoop protein shake with 0% milk for me = about 400 cals. (2 scoops of isoflex = 220 cals + 2 cups of milk = 180 cals) If used water, that same shake would be 220.

Depends on what kind of protein your speaking of. Any Isolate's I've tried are fucking horrible with water.
But try a whey complex and you might be surprised. Two I can think of that are good with water are Gaspari MyoFusion - Banana, and PowerWhey - Choc, PB. They mix up as thick as a shake with milk

I thought milk slows down the absorbtion rate and think about it, milk has casein and casein is used in commercial binders so if it was in your stomach it clots up thats why it absorbs slower

In my opinion, I guess that you should take whey protein with milk post-workout.. The carbohydrates will give you an insulin spike and put you into anabolic mode right away! And if you want to take either in the morning or at night, just think of how you want it to digest. If you want it to stay more into your digestive system (mostly at night) drink it with whole milk, if you want it to get digested faster take it with skimmed milk. Cheers
@Moodyz3 No no no. Too many ppl get this wrong. Milk has lactose. Lactose is not broken up by the body easily so absorption rate is slowed down if you mix your protein with milk. You have about a 30 minute window where your body is most anabolic and if you take milk, not only is there lactose in there, the protein thats in milk is casein! Casein of course being the slowest digesting protein you can have. Milk does NOT spike insulin. Right after your workout - Water + Protein. Milk any other time

im a huge fan of u two but from what ive learned u want to stay away from milk during ur post "anabolic window". @crunkwun I was like you before, but then I discovered Optimum Nutrition's Double Rich Chocolate. I use 5 or 6 ounces of water to every scoop and it actually tastes pretty good.
You should actually mix it with whatever it says on the product's label. The bioavailiablity of the protein in your powder is dependent on the isoelectric point of the powder. Milk is acidic (pH 6.4) and thus effects the solubility of the powder. If the product is not formulated to be dissolved in milk, you're actually hurting yourself and you won't get all the protein available in that powder.

@sabbymac If you are going to use milk with Whey Protein go with 1-2% milk. I personally prefer 2% milk but it's which ever you like better. What they were trying to say about whole milk is, it isn't necessarily bad for you cause it's still milk and all but it is loaded with fats which will make your body store that (hence getting more weight that's not muscle). Whole milk isn't bad it's just loaded with a lot of fat and you will notice your belly getting bigger after a couple of months of use.
@1984THB not really, its got some sugar but lactose isnt a simple sugar and doesnt metabolize quickly... milk is also loaded with casein which slows digestion.
There is a numerical score assigned to foods called the glycemic index that measures the impact on blood glucose levels from ingestion. There are websites out there that have glycemic index ratings based on food types, its worth googling.
glycemic index is the best way to predict insulin spikes. A lower number is better.
Take it with whole milk. ... Naw, take it with 2%... Whole milk does more damage than good.... naw.... but do 2%.... lolol

im a huge fan of u two but from what ive learned u want to stay away from milk during ur post "anabolic window". Mainly because lactose is found in ALL milk sources and is difficult for the body to break down which of course leads to a slow absorption rate. This means water would be the go to beverage to mix your post workout shake with. Milk would be good a couple hours after workout as well as before bed.. thats my advice on that, you can take it or say FUCK YOU! ima do w.e the FUCK i wanna do

@crunkwun I was like you before, but then I discovered Optimum Nutrition's Double Rich Chocolate. I use 5 or 6 ounces of water to every scoop and it actually tastes pretty good.

You should actually mix it with whatever it says on the product's label. The bioavailiablity of the protein in your powder is dependent on the isoelectric point of the powder. Milk is acidic (pH 6.4) and thus effects the solubility of the powder. If the product is not formulated to be dissolved in milk, you're actually hurting yourself and you won't get all the protein available in that powder.

@sabbymac If you are going to use milk with Whey Protein go with 1-2% milk. I personally prefer 2% milk but it's which ever you like better. What they were trying to say about whole milk is, it isn't necessarily bad for you cause it's still milk and all but it is loaded with fats which will make your body store that (hence getting more weight that's not muscle). Whole milk isn't bad it's just loaded with a lot of fat and you will notice your belly getting bigger after a couple of months of use.

@1984THB not really, its got some sugar but lactose isnt a simple sugar and doesnt metabolize quickly... milk is also loaded with casein which slows digestion.
There is a numerical score assigned to foods called the glycemic index that measures the impact on blood glucose levels from ingestion. There are websites out there that have glycemic index ratings based on food types, its worth googling.
glycemic index is the best way to predict insulin spikes. A lower number is better.
