@gurskymanisgay you obviosly dont know what your talking about. the discs on the trek 3900's and 4300's are getting worse every year i'll admit, but V brakes deffinately arent better than discs.

I have a 4300 alpha, I've ridden the fuck out of that thing, so much to I have a crack in my stem half a centimeter from the top. Good bike though, except for the fork(its a piece of shit).

Ok, I've a question, I'm preparing to buy a 4300 and I'm wondering if I should get the 4300 Disc or the 4300.. any other differences besides the brake setup?...

Ok, but is there any particular reason why??? I believe if it was a popular option then the 4500 and 4800s should have the Disc option as well. I probably won't go for the disc brakes seeing as you have to replace the rotors quite often.

Well, I've got the 4300 Disc. I haven't rode it recently due to heavy rain and freezing temperatures, so I really haven't fine-tuned the bike yet. My dealer told me I would have to break in the pads before the stopping would begin to perform better than V-brakes.

You don't have to replace the rotors that often. Disk is the greatest braking system out for bikes, especially if you're riding in a lot of wet weather/mud. Even If you're in dry conditions, it's still nice to have the braking power supplied by disks.

Yes, well as I said in a more previous comment, I bought the 2010 4300 Disk. Its just been to cold to go riding to fine-tune the drive train as well as the brakes.... Overall its a really nice entry-level MTB, with a bitchin' paint scheme as well.
