  • Question? Do you plug in the heli and let everything initialize(gyro, etc.) on a flat surface w/throttle and throttle trim down and hold on and then mount the heli and spool up or can you mount the heli on the stand and then do the above steps ? thanks roadglidec !

  • This stand would be real good tool for fixing your heli after a wreck and checking for vibration (out of balance) and blade tracking.

  • so what are the orange bags for on the skids?

  • Hey that looks like it could be great for pre-flight checks. I think a sim would be a little better than that as you can practice a little more thorough, but still great all the same, I might make one for my 300 sizes and up.

  • Brilliant! That is way safer than a tether and training balls. (this would have saved me a few blade sets.) Great job!

  • another thing that works is use the training kit with the balls on the ends and use a small anchor with a strong cable and anchor it to the ground on the center of gravity but only make the cable long enuf to let the heli raise but not long enuf to allow it to flip on its side..just a few inches or you could strike the ground with the tail rotor ..

  • how do you make the stand

  • You probably saved me and anyone else who does this a lot of money in repairs and prevented more frustration. Thanks! :-)

  • So do you sell the kit or parts, I need the parts so that I can Build an Electric Heli Training/Test Stand, I need the kit or parts so that I can put Training/Test Stand together?

  • Muy Bien Sr tnks for the tip genio gracias senor

  • Not a bad idea. I can see applications for absolute Newbies. This would have helped me when I first got my Blade 400.

  • get it level you nazi! LOL!

  • Don't use woodenblades for that!!!!The blade's can fail! I had that happend, almost hit my face!

  • Does it works for any helicopters?

How much will it cost on total?

    Denil uk

  • make sure your landing skids are secure!

  • great idea, i made one on boxing day out of a extentable broom handle!!! works a treat, but i am having difficulty keeping my blade 400 level, does positioning of the heli on the top plate effect control??

  • yes, try to get the main shaft in the center of whatever you attach it to, that should do it.

PS..post a vid of your training stand please! i want to see the setup you have on it .

    Happy Flying :)

  • Im a kid 12 years old and i have the Storm 450 Heli But im scared to fly it! I had a lot of training Whit minni RC helis and even took a course from a good heli flier

  • Das Teil baue ich am Wochenende nach. - Muß man haben.

  • Comment removed

  • perfect for training!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nice stand, but you won't learn alot from it.

  • Yea agreed. nothing better than a sim or starting with a coax.

  • but its great for pre flight trimming or bench testing your heli!!

  • you are so dangerous

  • I notice the tail is bouncing back and forth. Is that the gyro vs the stand?

  • gr8 idea...better than your mates smashing your helli up when they come round for a beer

  • bags

  • were do u get the orange air ????

  • he takes "swimmies" and cuts them apart.

  • Dave it think u r the best rc flyer ever!

  • Thank you much.

  • Much harder than it looks.....Good job.

  • Thanks.

  • make a smaller one! for micro helis. And, istead of a base that's free-moving in all directions, reduce its movements to yaw, forth and back and up/down one that you could clamp to a small table, sit back on a chair and relax while feeling the controls. Its gonna be a hit... small and compact, and a good tool to teach kids and adults to fly and have fun with small-sized helis

    get the idea? :P

  • Got the idea, but small helis don't have enough power to lift anything but themselves. This is for trimming and balancing blades as it is a test stand first. Thanks for the comments.

  • how about straws?

  • what you need to do is put driver doze alarms on the gimbals set at level and then it will beep if he is off the beam.

  • Haha. Too noisy. Eyes work pretty good, as there is no beepers on the real helis, but good thought.

  • Personally I train my boys on Realflight G4, after 30 days my 8 year old was flying anything with a prop or rotor. But more then that he was able to land the aircraft where he wanted it to be.

  • Yep, sims are great, but give a false sense of security. It is hard to trim you real heli with a sim, which was the real purpose of this stand.

  • whatever works for you, all I know is my boys fly like experts and its always fun to see the old boys pick their jaws up off the ground when my guys fly.

  • could a micro heil copter one of the small sort of fomy once survive being shot with plastic bullets or would it just brake

  • Those foam havocs would bounce off, I think, but if you get it in the tail rotor, it may knock it down. Go for it and make a video.

  • yer i may soon but i need to wait till my mate gets his new gun

  • Somebody may have mentioned this before, but does this stress the motor any more than normal? It seems like lifting it up with the strap holding it down like that would get a little tough on the motor, idk.

  • It is never ever running at full power and if you follow my 5-10 rule, you will never burn out a motor. (fly for 5 minutes, let the motors and brain cool for 10)

I have never ever burned out a motor on the stand, or in the air.

  • Thanks for you response Dave.

  • Hi, could you please make a vid how to make those orange things on ur heli? TY

  • Already did. See my video on "Stealth Helicopters, you cant fly them if you cant see them"

    Good luck.

  • Nice power of Helicopter!Good work, keep it on dude!!

  • Thanks kindly.

  • I watched a few of these vidoe's and went out and bought one of my own. ( keep up the vids...

  • Thanks kindly.

  • just hope it doesnt fly loose. that would be rather comical/disastrous

  • That's why the safety strap. Most other people DO crash when it is loose, and that is more likely.

  • your vids allway amaze me great stuff , you should have your own t.v show, all the best .

  • Thanks kindly. We are trying to do a tv show too. Stay tuned.

  • yay!

  • That is so smart!

  • Thanks. It takes a smart person to recognize that. :-)

  • omg. BEST! idea ever to learn how to fly.

i wish i could've learned like that ahha. i learnt the hardway spending a few bucks xD.

great thinking. very good invention for learners :D.

    i love it!

  • Thanks very kindly. I appreciate that.

  • thats genius, wished i could get one, have'nt got any way to make one.shame. id pay for one.geat vid as usual.

  • Thank you sir.

  • I Have a honey king 2 but every time i go to fly it it spins to the left like crazy I need some help thanks.

  • See my King 2 repair video. Make sure your moving the left stick in the right direction, the blades are on correctly the servo is not reversed on the tail and the belt is not slipping as was the case in my video. Good luck.

  • Really good idea to learn the sticks :D

  • Thanks much for your comments.

  • SomeBody Stole This Idea From You!! =]

    Better Sell It Fast

  • I did it for the good of the hobby. Build one and enjoy. Thanks

  • Thanks Dave! I am going to build this next weekend, I have been flying mine with a 38" Hoola Hoop secured to the skids wich has worked well so far, but has not completely gotten rid of the "pucker factor". This is my first CCPM heli and after 2 1/2 months I have only broken a blade grip, but I have to blame that on a bad combination of wind and testosterone.. If I can get my hovering closer to 100% then I can have fewer "run-on" landings.

  • Your welcome and thanks for the comments. Good luck.

    Dave

  • Thanks NightFlyyer, I saw your video, went out and got the parts, and built the stand. I look forward to flying my RC Helicopter on it tomorrow. This has to be one of the best Training tools ever. Well done.

  • Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate that. Good luck with your machine and only watch the nose.

  • Thanks very much. Glad to hear your progressing well.

  • impressive tool id have a patent on that if you dont already

  • Thanks kindly. I appreciate your comments.

  • This is probably one of the best and most impressive training tool I have seen yet. Outstanding work. I'm farely new to flying RC heli and something like this would help me alot.

  • Thanks very much. We all need some help, and glad you like the idea.

  • good idea.

  • Thanks kindly.

  • hey uhh i was wondering whats the difference between 6 ch and 4 ch?? but nice idea 5/5

  • The 2 channels are extra for running landing gears, flaps, lights etc. Mostly not needed when learning.

  • can you use that training thing to fix the trims..?

  • Absolutely.

  • Jeff is a lucky dude to get to learn from you! Just from my few months of viewing i wont take anyone elses advice the same

  • Thanks very kindly. Good luck and happy flying.

  • Very clever idea. I've built the harddisk version for tail setup, but had never considered having 360 tilt and lift option.

I have a redundant draw slider with ball bearing runners, might do for my 500, at least for the lift side, has a 15" slide ;-)

    5*

    Steve

  • Thanks kindly. What ever works, right? Yours sounds good too. Good luck.

  • What are you useing to strap down the Helicopter? (looks like rubberbands)

Can you recomend a good RC Helicopter magazine?

Excelent videos!!! Thanks you for all the helpfull information.

  • I used rubber bands and a safety harness tied to the base. Rotory Modeler Magazine is my favorite heli magazine. Thanks for the kudos.

  • Awesome idea!!!

  • Thanks kindly. :-)

  • I just wish you had that idea years ago, so learning how to fly would be cheaper and easier. co'z some people prefer learning on the actual heli or plane rather than using a simulator

  • hey there i hav a honey bee heli n the tails keep vibrating can u tell me how can i make it stable the tail n the tails keep move left n right

  • Thats the way it is. It takes lots of practice to make it right. Dont mess with any adjustment screws as they really are at the best settings when you get it, but most find flying with tail rotors impossible. Watch the nose and make sure your going the right way. Right stick, makes nose go to right, not the tail.

  • very nice stand, as always good work

    how did you make it?

  • Thanks kindly. See the video response and part 1 to see how I made it.

  • Thanks good luck with it. Make sure to see part 1. Happy flying.

  • awsome idea im going to make me one just learning thanks great video roterwash46

  • that would be very usefull for helping with blade tracking..and it would be pretty safe !!

  • Yep it is excellent for tracking and I use it for that when I need too. Thanks.

  • thats a clever idea! you should market that

    great video to

  • Thanks very kindly.

  • Really cool mate! genious!

  • Thanks very much for your comments.

  • Dave thank's for your time I am going to make a test like you have shown. I'll keep you posted as to my progress. Thank You

  • Your welcome. I hope it is working out for you.

  • i was just wondering. i have never flown a heli before and i dont want to pay for 2 or 3 begginer planes. would i be able to fly this if i bought Aerofly or G4

  • I would absolutely recommend the simulator. It will definitly speed up the learning process. Aerofly was awarded the best Worldwide. I will send you my 9 heli flying tips too.

  • thank you. you are the king of r/c!!

  • If I did not have my simulator. I think I would have quit this hobby months ago. In fact come to think of it, I did. Until I got the simulator.

  • you are the king of rc ever thing you are awsome

  • Thanks. That is kind of you to say.

  • you are a genius

  • Thanks, that is kind of you to say.

  • I mean it is really true it is a simple and effective method really.. better then any simulator at least in the start:D

  • Aerofly won all top awards for flight physics and realism. It will make you sweat when you fly. But fms (eSKY) is a good basic tool. 1 crash will pay for itself. LOL.

  • Ihave to say, that is very good. I was wondering if such a stand could be made for a quadrotor too?

I am working on autonomous hover for a Dragonfly x-pro quadrotor with an external control loop for the autonomous hover part. Something like this would be like a gold mine for me. Thanks for the video. Really appreciate it.

  • I think this test stand can be used for anything. Good luck with your project.

  • that's kinda creepy how it turned toward you!

  • Yep, that's the way helis are.

  • Just want to thank Nightflyyer again for this great stand. I'm not hovering yet, but this stand is getting me a whole lot closer. Thanks again for sharing your tips and support.

  • Your very welcome. Good job on the stand. It will become easier with time an patience. Study my 9 heli tips and good luck.

  • i want one so bad can u tell me how much they cost or some thing else similar ??

  • I put about $35 in parts in this. See the other video for more and if you want a parts list, let me know.

  • LOL! that kind of training is a good alternative of flight sim..

  • Thanks.

  • that looks hard to fly one of those

  • It takes lots of practice for sure.

  • wow, great videos!... i am wanting to start my hobbie as a heli flyer and i was wandering if i should get the blade cx2 or the blade cx?

  • Thanks very kindly. The Blade CX2 is still my choice or the Coco Lama. Also study my 9 heli flying tips for more.

  • NightFlyyer, I'd like to thank you for all the great information you have cought on tape for newbies like myself. Your videos have given me such a better understanding of basic helo flight, control,& operation. With that said would you say the blade 400 is or isn't a good choice for beginners ? My local hobby shop has them and I'm finding is harder and harder to walk past them.

  • its not good to start out with...first start out with a 4 channel (throttle, rudder, foreward backword, yaw) i would recomend the heli-max axe ez,i started with it the parts are a lot harder to brake than the cx2,and its smaller so better for indoors and does not have blade strikes the cx2 does and its cheaper and comes with training gear and folding blades which is not on the cx2

  • Thanks. I know the feeling. A Porsche is hard to walk past too, but hotrods are not the place to begin learning to drive..

  • yep, thank you :) I been flying for a little over 2 years now. But im not that good w. electrics of it. Though I know how to take it aprt and put it back together. I finally did it, I put a new battery in it. since i have like 5 battery for it. and Now im just working on my blade tracking b/c my skids where shacking alot. So yea now it seems good. Thanks you and all your videos I watched all of them!!! hehe

  • HI mr. Herbert I need some advice.

I got a problem w. my heli. i turned it on i was fxing a bent shaft so then, i was spinning up slowly to see where to bend to n such, n then it the serovs all went down on its own and i lost all servo control. Now when i turn on the heli, light goes green but it wont do anything no throttle no tai, no servos, i dont know whats going on with it. What should i do?

  • Well dont do that again! It wont start unless you have the throttle hold/3d switches off, the throttle stick to the bottom and the throttle trim all the way down. It is for safety.

  • wow looks hard. ive been wanting 2 see how hard it is 2 fly these things. but its hard 2 do that until u get a chance 2 try it.

  • Yes, there is nothing easy about flying rc helicopters and most people never learn. They run out of money for parts and patience. It takes years for most to learn well enough to fly Stunts, etc.

  • im not sucking up here or aniting..but its thanks to ppl like you, that i keep trying to learn to control the heli...thanks! u are the driving force!

  • Don't worry. I have made enough mistakes in flying so now that I am older, I would like to see more people have success and not have to learn the hard way like I did. There are no secrets in my book. I will help anyone to try to succeed, as it is rewarding. I truly appreciate your comments. Keep me posted on your progress and good luck.

  • very innovative..i tink its a good platform to start learning to control the heli in a static way..thus reducing the risks of crashing..i like ur idea!

  • Thanks very kindly. We all need all the help we can get, when learning helis.

  • wow, thats a great idea. I just love all your videos.

  • Thanks very kindly. I appreciate that.

  • dave... your are the best helicopter genious on you tube!!! keep making videos, and can you pleas make 1 with an RC EasyCopter?

  • Thanks kindly. Well if I get one I will, but they are the same as the Picco z and the Havocs. See my vids on them. Stay tuned for my next video...How helicopters fly. It will give you some more insight to the way they fly, making it easier to learn.

  • Dave, can you please tell me how to fly my honeybee king 2 inverted????? thanks

  • You have to throw the 3d flight sw on, to make 0 pitch at 1/2 throttle. Roll is same, but tail rotor is backwards. This is difficult for most to master. Make sure you can do nose in hovering rolls and loops perfectly before trying. Everybody I have watched over the years usually crash when trying inverted the 1st time. Of course crashes are the most important part of the learning curve. Its very hard to write how to fly inverted here. You need an instructor that can show you. Study my 9 tips.

  • all ok.... but can you tell me more about the controls you use on the controller.... thanks

  • If you dont know how the controls work for simple hovering (you have to use them all at the same time on the TX), you should not be concerned with inverted flying. You need to know the basics first. Best to buy a simple 4 ch heli and read the instruction manual. I have not enough room to give that kind of lesson here. Sorry.

  • can you explain the science behind it in a video??? thanks

  • It is physics, not science. The heli flies , like a big flying trash can lid. Upside down or not, it is the same. Pretend the rotors are a big round wing in the air. Collective steering on the head tilts the rotor disk in the direction you want to fly. The tail rotor spins (yaws) the heli left and right). Look up helicopters in How things work(.)com I have lots of videos up already that show how helis fly. I don't have time to make another video on the same subject right now. Maybe winter.

  • Nice idea ...

When flying tho use your thumb and four finger you get much more movement flying with your thumbs is very dangerous =)

  • I NEVER fly my left hand with thumb. I pinch the stick with my index and thumb and it is a recommendation in my "9 heli flying tips for success", as you will never get good with just thumb on the left stick. It is okay on right stick. See my Blade 400 vids for more.

  • nice man ...If I doo this with my helicopter . in 20 second . the baterry is off . .

  • Thanks. What heli and what battery?

  • Rc apache .and the battery is : ni-Mh ( 8.4 v and 350 mAH )

  • You don't need a training stand for that heli, but it should run just as long, either flying or on a training stand.

  • On belhalf of all the spare parts I have just saved by using this, THANK YOU. REALLY>

  • Thanks kindly for your comments.

  • can u tell me where i can buy this orange things??

  • See my Video, Stealth Helicopters, you cant fly them, if you cant see them for more. I bought mine at Kmart in the kids swimming dept.

  • What a great idea. It looks sort of simple to build. Still You have an invention worth selling. Get the paten quick!!

  • Thanks kindly. Well it is too late, as this video has probably been seen by major manufacturers. Best thing is that I can say, "You saw it here first".

My pay is seeing folks like you become successful at rc helis, which are difficult enough as it is.

  • Hope you applied for an Patent# Somebody may capitalize on your design! keep up the good work "Turbo"

  • Thanks. No patent, 'cause the "knockoff" office is right next to the "patent" office. I just want you all to learn, and I'm not worried about capitalizing on it. I really appreciate your concern and comments. My pay is seeing folks like you be successful at rc helis, which are difficult enough as it is.

  • Can you tell me which is a descent Lipo charger for under 100 bucks? I'm new to this area so don't even know what brands are there.

  • I like the Triton, by Great planes, personally.

  • Is 3E Smart Plus LPC-1080 Li-ploy battery Balance Charger a decent charger? It looks good on a photo but don't know what it would be like.

Thank you very much for your suggestion on 3d. But I am still not brave enough to try it. I tried it without a rotor blade attached, and when I take it to mid throttle, the motor screams. And when I hit the 3d switch, it screams even more. So I'm scared.

  • That is also a good charger. Also, do not mess with the 3d switch til you know how to hover. You gotta learn to walk before you can run. Also study my revised 9 heli tips for more.

  • Yet another good vid. Your vids on youtube have been the reason why I started the hobby in rc helis

    THANKS!!!

  • Thank kindly. I hope I can be of help to you occasionally. Good luck.

  • isn't the motor gonna be overheated for no air flow? love your videos mate, got your rule of thumbs last yr and now i can fly my honey bee king 2 well! thanks

  • Thanks. Yep they overheat the same as hovering, No difference, as rotor blades are blowing the wind on or off the stand. I always recommend never flying over 5 minutes anyway at a time, because of heat. Glad your doing well with your King II.

  • great invention! u should send it to kyosho like ur helicopter deighn. also, is the esky charger an auto cut off? i dont want my bettery to blow up because of overcharging. please recomend a good, affordable li-po charger that has an auto cut off, if the esky charger is not auto cut off.

  • Thanks. The esky charger is an auto cutoff.

    I have approached Kyosho.

  • i want one...

  • Dave

    I love my test stand!

I have figured out how to get the trim right by trial and error, (no one to help me)

I have a slight wobble at full throttle?

Is this normal or a matter of trim?

    Thanks

  • Great. Mayb
