I completely agree that the problems with data are very real and important. But what can be done about it? I see no realistic solutions... they all sound like sci-fi.
Blanket statement-> younger gen isn't technically savvy is unquestionably false. The next generation is far more savvy then you give them credit, entrepreneurs are starting in their teens to disrupt embedded social systems.
@VictusFate IMO he's talking about savvy from an engineering perspective. As in, understanding the protocols and technical specifications that give you the ability to understand security technically. The younger generation has a higher order of magnitude of complexity to grasp internetworking in a modern society. 99.9% of college graduates could not tell you what facilitates PKI, but their use of it is ubiquitous without consideration.

Also there's a bit of irony in the fact that by adding this video about data pollution to my favourites list, and commenting on it, I've generated and given date to google so that it can better target me with advertising.. Hummmm....
