I loved this movie soo much! best movie ever made me cry, rest in peace all soldiers who fought in world war one and in the canadian battle, passchendaele!
Why are there always stupid comments about which country is best? Which countries made the most contributions to war? This movie is a chance for Canadians to take pride in the men that died fighting for their country, and yes, other countries had significant roles in the war too if not more significant, but that's not the point of this movie. It's about time Canada got noticed for being more than just a country north of the United States.
@Schnadaffi There is a display of honour by the germans in this movie so its not all just bad. The Canadians were some of the msot feared soldiers on the WWI battle field. There were gas attacks that everyone else would run away from and the Canadians would be the only ones to stay in the trenches piss on a rag and hold the line.
I think all of those people bitching and this country or that one are missing the main point....Caroline Dhavernas is absolutely gorgeous in this movie. I think this can be agreed on by all.
You know nothing about the average American. Knock it off and try to respect what this video is about..And it certainly is not about YOUR opinion of anything.
@ThePop424 They were haha, stosstruppen were German assault troops during the war. Though the Germans held the Canadians as one of the best fighting units on the Western Front, they had the same fear of all Colonial Troops. The Germans had the Australians, Canadians, Indians and New Zealanders, classified as shock troops. (Not to mention the Scots, whom the Germans nicknamed the ladies from hell due to their kilts.)
If only the movie was as great as the editors who created this trailer. The movie as a whole was more of a disrespect to men on the lines then a tribute. I pray that Paul Gross and the rest of the writing team do not ever try to make a movie on Vimy Ridge. As a soldier myself in the Royal Canadian Dragoons I wanted so desperately to like this movie, I wanted so much to have pride in a film that may have been considered our Canadian version of S.P.R but left it hating it and disappointed.
@lilbecblake I really don't know what your attitude comes from. My wife and I are Americans, and we watched this today, because I didn't know much about the battle and especially about the Canadians involved in it. I wanted to know, and what I saw made me truly proud of their unquenchable spirit and fighting prowess. I intend to learn more, not only about the battle but Canadians in war as well. Salute.
war and romance... love it...makes me proud to be Canadian
I know some ppl think it's not as good as the others 'because it didn't show enough war scenes' and focused on the love strory half the time.. but thats what I LOVED about this movie.. it showed the other aspects of a soldiers life other than fighting... it shows thier humanity...
the fact that in every Canadian trailer iv ever seen their is a comment war on which country is cooler or about how one country bitches about the other is stupid i mean really who cares can't we just enjoy the movie trailer maybe even a couple reviews??
I have been to the Graveyard at Passchendale. The 3 German pillboxes are in the middle of it. The whole countryside is littered with graveyards from WW1, British, USA, Canada, Australia, etc,
America was not a major player in WWI. There influence in the war was minor. The war tired Germans could not stand the idea of fighting the new American forces. Although America participated in a few key battles, it was mostly the idea of the American army that helped the allies win the war.
Why the hell is this trailer made of 90% war scenes, while the movie consists out of +/- 15%? When I bought this movie I thought: "hey, finally a WW1 movie with the REAL story of Passchendaele". Turns out to be a romance film with NO accurate description of the battle. If people who don't know that much about the Great War watch this movie they won't care about the deaths of many men who had to fight in some shitty terrain in Belgium (not a shitty country btw). This war may not be forgotten!
Quite simply one of the worst films ever made! Wooden acting and utterly unrealistic battle scenes. For example running towards German lines and avoiding being killed outright by the 100's of bullets being fired and then carrying the cross like Jesus Christ. Enough to make me sick. It maybe Canadian but is certainly played out in the American way. Disappointing...
ive seen this movie a lot of times and i loved it i dont know why the fuck ppl are saying it sucks they must be fucking droped on there head when they were a baby
Sorry to say this film sucked, guys! I saw it on opening day nearly 3 years ago. Wasted money on the theatre ticket, I'll tell you that. But that's not the main point I'd like to get across. Guys, seriously, you don't have to argue with ignorant people who think Canadians never do anything at war. You know why? Because they are stupid, self-centered, and probaby over-patriotic. It's okay if these dumbasses trash Canadians because they just plain DON'T know what they're talking about.
One of my favourite films of all time-- a classic view of the futility of war and finally something from OUR viewpoint as opposed to the typical American look at things.
Very average love story ruined by a few bits of good acting and war scenes. I didn't think the movie did much Justice to the Canadian sacrifices made in 1917. Having said that, the movie gave the view that Canada were the main movers and shakers at Paschendale. 16,000 Canadian Casualties, 38,000 Australian and over 200,000 British. These numbers even it out a bit. Would've been a top movie if it got rid of the girlie bits and had Iron Maidens 'Paschendale' for the sound track. UP THE IRONS!
I love all the Americans cryin about this, seems if theres a war and America isnt the main focus then they bitch, cry, moan, grown, and blow shit up until they are lol gotta love Americans.

@lilbecblake I love how non-americans cry about americans when they think they are bitching, crying, moaning and blowing shit up when they just need some attention because their parents are dead or gone... stop trolling please, no one cares...
@wtflazerpewpew You started Vietnam... Lost. You joined WWI and WWII LATE, you claimed you found the Top Secret Enigma machine first in 1944 when we the British stole it in 1940, You started the Gulf war in '91 and thanks to the SAS and other British units who took out strategic air defences and lazed targets for your F-117 nighthawks to drop the smart bombs and you fucked up in the second Gulf war and came crying to us to bail you out! How do you kick ass? You face the facts!
@jacko2523 We were a neutral nation before Britain begged us to help in WW1 and we were FORCED into WW2 in 1942 and fought it for 3 years and ENDED IT. We supplied $900 BILLION of resources to Britain prior to our involvement in WW2 and fought on 11 separate fronts deploying 14 MILLION Troops around the world. The Gulf war was a COALITION mostly comprised of Arabians and 70% of the air strikes were designated by US MARSOC.
@berserker276 We entered the conflict in very very late 41. Prior to December, we were still neutral. before that we Embargoed trade to Japan and Germany and we supplied Britain $900 billion in resources such as food, oil and military equipment such as Trucks, Tanks, Ships, Aircraft, Jeeps, Artillery pieces and firearms and we manufactured many of their radars years before in the Lend Lease Act. On top of that, we then sent our boys to fight for them. They cannot say we did not do anything.
@NoOdL3z18 How were you forced into WW2? You had your Entire Pacific fleet in ONE place! More to the point, how did a vastly inferior enemy destroy nearly 90% of your fleet with less than 200 planes, stall you for years in trying to defeat japan and it was our scientists who developed the hiroshoma bomb for you to drop. You didnt even suceed in making it to the moon on your own. All of the Saturn 5, the LEM and the moon buggy was done by Germans scientists with American money.
@NoOdL3z18 I guess you americans won the Battle of Britain to did you? You love to think you are the best but in true nature and for all intensive perposes who has the most elite units capable for doing more damage per head than any other nation???...... Britain. The SAS are the best in the world and you dont like it.
@jacko2523 During the Gulf war our forces comprised of 300,000 US Military, about 700,000 Arab Coalition forces and a few thousand EU and UK forces here and there dragging along and doing almost nothing JUST LIKE THE CURRENT WAR! In our current war about 80,000 US Troops supported by about 4,000 Brits doing humanitarian missions. The UK just wanted to jump in with a few troops to pretend that they are just like big brother while 90% of the operations are held by the more numerous US forces.
Awesome movie! Canadians can make more moving movie than Americans. We just need to find out the talented screenwriter allied with a visionary movie director! this movie is our ."saving private ryan"! SO we have to be proud to be Canadians!
and the people theat say it's not, were probably expecting fighting all the way through...people, you've really got to realise they can't just plunge into action and fighting straight away!!
there has got to be some plot aside from the actual battle.
This film is possibly the shittiest I've seen in my life. And I'm not fucking trolling. Everyone responsible for this abomination should be lined up and executed (along with the braindead retards who actually like it). Although, the 'director' and 'actor' of this film should be brutally tortured first. Every form of copy of this piece of shit or anything that has to do with it should be thoroughly wiped off the face of humanity and this planet, never to be seen again.
let's get one thing straight; everyone agrees this war was pointless. let's get another thing straight; this movie was godawful. It totally sucked balls. The two short battle scenes at the start and end were entertaining, however they were historically inaccurate. The fact that two girls in the film have sex before they are married is historically inaccurate. Sarah and David (2 main characters) were assholes. Michael Dunne was a decent character, but unfortunately he was surrounded by idiots.
Good comment Mike, and for the record Passchendaele combatants (apart from Germans) were French and British, plus British Empire troops -- Canadians, Australians, Indians, South Africans and New Zealanders. Cheers from Sydney.
@tjvgriffy are you stupid nevr underestimate the allies they would have won the russians would have pushed you back and the allies would win on all fronts you nazi
well, Usa only had 130 thou in ww1 and they joined in the last 18 months of the war.generally not very involved, and the fact that every american made war movie is either ww2 or vietnam speaks volumes.
Great movie. As a Canadian I am soooo proud of our involvement in WWI. Even more after learning about our great victories especially the battle of Vimmy Ridge in history class. Vive les Canadiens.
So much butthurt in these comments, we didn't do that much fighting; we were too busy selling arms to both sides. Thanks for supporting us with your sissy blood Europe, enjoy your muslims.
@DagothJones If it wasn't for Muslims in Europe Gavrilo Princip would have never been caught you dumb twat.DagothJones is a perfect example how much an average American knows about WWI or WWII. I bet the only thing you know about WWII is what you've heard about Pearl Harbor. Ignorance is bliss...right. Honestly fucks like yourself shouldn't exist. They should be exiled to South Pole with no food but just enough clothing so you can slowly go away. "ya no' I mean" ;) Cheers turd.
@DagothJones ROFLOL Not at all my little buddy...I just think people such as yourself have no clue of what the hell they're talking about. I can only laugh at you and your ignorant comments, considering you have no idea where WWI started without going to Wiki or Google. Have a cigar.
@DagothJones If you were as half as smart as me you would soak in all the info I have provided so far and ask for more food for your little brain. I love you too. ;)
I don't understand. The US did help a lot during WWI. When the Russians backed out of WWI to fight a civil war all the troops on the Eastern Front moved to the West to fight the Western Front in a huge offensive called Operation Michael. This pushed the line back very far and almost to the brink of defeat. When the US arrived the 100 Days offensive was launched and pushed the line right back.
Other than that, I've never seen America steal glory from WWI
@TheDarkNobleOne Many americans claim that you guys won practicly singehandidly. I know most know you didn't, but still, WW1 and 2 you guys where strong because you stayed out.
@TheDarkNobleOne No offense to American brothers, but the video is about the battle of Passenchandaele and has nothing to do with what you're talking about. In this battle it was the British, the Canadians and the French.
@TheDarkNobleOne duuhhh.. this war was a god awful shitty mess! i dont see no glory at all... throw the troops in front of all the ennemies' guns... doh they are all dead. whatever... just throw some more. in french we would say ''boucherie''. The only glory i can find is the one glory of the memories of those soldiers who died in mass, who payed the price of life for liberty of others. but its the same thing in all the wars! War sucks. people die for nothing.. may god have their souls.
@TheDarkNobleOne Everyone did there part in the War, Russian, British, American, Canadian, French, Australian/Kiwis, Even the Germans, Turks, and Austrians/Hungarians fought bravely.... and as for 'glory' War has No Winners, I mean the British won WWI but for What? For the Breakdown of their Empire? For the Lost Generation? The Only thing I can never forgive the Americans for is Calling Nov 11 Veteran's Day instead of Remembrance Day....
@TheDarkNobleOne I think that the thing people are really bitter about is not that the US stole any kind of glory from the storm troopers, but that they entered so late in the war that they came out with the biggest military in the west. Also cold shoulders came from the fact that America joined the victory march at the very end, giving the perception that they had entered the war only at the most opportune moment.
@TheDarkNobleOne Excuse me but by the time Americans got to Europe the war was just about over. American soldiers not only did not do much but even got in the way with their inexperience. This also being the case with Pershing who after having done nothing but fight Indians on the plains and fail to capture Pancho Villa;was completely out of his league.Actually Fauch even tried to have him replaced due to his military incompetence.
Actually it was a bit worse numbers wise if you were a Canadian. 1 out every 10 were in uniform. As a youngster it was unusual to see an adult mail on the street.
my sister bought me this film for xmas as she knows i loved paul gross in Due South but i not sure what to make of this film. i mean its called passchendaele but the battle bit only seemed to last for 20 minutes of the film so it seemed a bit funny to me
Speaking as an Englishman and a studier of WW1 at University level this needs saying, The Canadians were considered to be the best soldiers the allies had in WW1. They were considered tough, extremely proficient and highly discilplined. Vimy Ridge is the utter defenition of those qualities. They took Vimy Ridge and no-one else manged it. Its a shame they had to at all.
@Love4SK I call bullshit. There are plenty of ww1 movies that are chock full of U.S. soldiers. This is set in Passchendaele, and the US didn't fight at Passchendale. If you want to make a movie about Bellau Wood, have at it.
I live near passchendale, there is a cemetery called "Tyne Cot", if you can just imagen every one of them took part of this, every men had it's own life, it's own story...
media needs to make more movies liek this....Canadians did WAY more than the americans and the americans made it look like they did everything...Canadians were superior in WW1 and WW2
......and really, that big battle at the end of the film would,in reality ,only be equivalent to a relatively small skirmish over the course of the entire battle.I just thought this movie would be much broader and centered on the battle of passchendaele, not guy and girl fall in love with ww1 as more of a backdrop to their personal story. The acting and the movie were pretty good,I was just expecting something more along the lines of " All Quite On The Western Front ".
I thought it would show a little bit of the earlier battles involving the british, french etc,
the discussions between currie and haig, the progression of the battle, a look at the germans point of view, and ultimately the utter waste it was to take passchendaele since it was reclaimed by the germans soon after it was taken.........instead, 80% of the film was at home and about a relationship with one small fight at the beginning of the film and one big fight at the end.
Exactly.............I was expecting 80-90% of the film to take place in the trenches and follow it from more of a historical point of view, like the planning and preperation before the battle
Well im British but also Canada kicked ass in world war 2, despite many obstacles on juno beach, the Canadians were off the beach within hours and beginning their advance inland!
although this movie is about the canadian participation at passchendale its important not to forget that hundreds of thousands of british, french, ANZAC, indian and german soldiers fought and died here long before we were even involved in this battle.
this movie , for me, was a little disappointing..........I was expecting the main focus of the film to be on the actual battle, but the majority of it was about a love story.
I loved this movie soo much! best movie ever made me cry, rest in peace all soldiers who fought in world war one and in the canadian battle, passchendaele!

NoOdL3z18 2 days ago

Britain. The SAS are the best in the world and you dont like it.
jacko2523 2 days ago
@jacko2523 During the Gulf war our forces comprised of 300,000 US Military, about 700,000 Arab Coalition forces and a few thousand EU and UK forces here and there dragging along and doing almost nothing JUST LIKE THE CURRENT WAR! In our current war about 80,000 US Troops supported by about 4,000 Brits doing humanitarian missions. The UK just wanted to jump in with a few troops to pretend that they are just like big brother while 90% of the operations are held by the more numerous US forces.

this movie was good.
and the people theat say it's not, were probably expecting fighting all the way through...people, you've really got to realise they can't just plunge into action and fighting straight away!!
there has got to be some plot aside from the actual battle.

PrinzEugenMCMLXXXIII 8 months ago
let's get one thing straight; everyone agrees this war was pointless. let's get another thing straight; this movie was godawful.

I know most know you didn't, but still, WW1 and 2 you guys where strong because you stayed out.
dave19941000 11 months ago
@TheDarkNobleOne No offense to American brothers, but the video is about the battle of Passenchandaele and has nothing to do with what you're talking about. In this battle it was the British, the Canadians and the French.
TheCanadianPatriot17 10 months ago

LudicrousPlatypus 7 months ago
@TheDarkNobleOne Then you havent seen much
DdotTindall 4 months ago
@TheDarkNobleOne I think that the thing people are really bitter about is not that the US stole any kind of glory from the storm troopers, but that they entered so late in the war that they came out with the biggest military in the west. Also cold shoulders came from the fact that America joined the victory march at the very end, giving the perception that they had entered the war only at the most opportune moment.
Boris1175 4 months ago
@TheDarkNobleOne Excuse me but by the time Americans got to Europe the war was just about over. American soldiers not only did not do much but even got in the way with their inexperience. This also being the case with Pershing who after having done nothing but fight Indians on the plains and fail to capture Pancho Villa;was completely out of his league.Actually Fauch even tried to have him replaced due to his military incompetence.
truvianni 4 months ago
@TheDarkNobleOne united states had 100,000 killed in action
Canada + British Empire had 3 000 000 casualties (2/3 wounded: 1/3 killed in action)
britain + canada had 35% casualties (12% killed in action)
america lost 2.6% of their forces

I hated this movie. Cause in the army, fraternizing is illegal and punishable.
And the director showed fraternizing. Movie was shit and was very unrealistic. Patton still stands as the best war movie ever.
Back then USA was busy with wars in the Caribbean and Mexico. But today, America is a valuable ally to Canada and NORAD reinforces that.

@OutdoorSurvivalist1
......and really, that big battle at the end of the film would,in reality ,only be equivalent to a relatively small skirmish over the course of the entire battle.I just thought this movie would be much broader and centered on the battle of passchendaele, not guy and girl fall in love with ww1 as more of a backdrop to their personal story. The acting and the movie were pretty good,I was just expecting something more along the lines of " All Quite On The Western Front ".
drfye 1 year ago
@OutdoorSurvivalist1
I thought it would show a little bit of the earlier battles involving the british, french etc,
the discussions between currie and haig, the progression of the battle, a look at the germans point of view, and ultimately the utter waste it was to take passchendaele since it was reclaimed by the germans soon after it was taken.........instead, 80% of the film was at home and about a relationship with one small fight at the beginning of the film and one big fight at the end.
drfye 1 year ago
@OutdoorSurvivalist1
Exactly.............I was expecting 80-90% of the film to take place in the trenches and follow it from more of a historical point of view, like the planning and preperation before the battle
