  • well guess what i got bad news for you the mbta type 8's are now running fully operational on the D line

  • Cool. i love the riverside branch, hope to ride it soon!

  • Great video.

  • Thanks. Happy New Year.

  • Cool video but not a single one is an LRV - they are all type-7s. Which are all types of Light Rail Vehicles - but the "LRV" was a car sold by Boeing to MBTA and MUNI and was the first true Light Rail vehicle.

  • You are right. These are Type 7s made by Kinki-Sharyo. Wikipedia has a nice writeup on the LRVs.

  • LRV just means Light Rail Vehicle as a category of rail vehicles. And, the type 7's as well as the type 8's are indeed belonging to this category.

The Boeing vehicle was called US standard LRV. Standard means, there are (or may be) other ones. ;)

    greetings, Mike

  • Mike,

You are indeed correct in a purist sense - but as in most things Boston is FUCKED UP and does things WRONG as usual.

In Boston Transit parlance the term "LRV" refers to the Boeing Cars while the Type-7 and Type-8's are known by their types, NOT as LRVs although these cars are all technically LRVs.

Boston fucks everything up. GO YANKEES.

  • lol ok...

my local transit operator can't even decide whether it's net network should be called lightrail, subway, tram, or whatever...

  • Boston can't decide whether to just implode or continue resenting the rest of the country for hating them.
