Yamaha r6 top and real speed

All bike speedos lie, and they tell bigger lies when you mess with gearing. most sports bike speedos over read by around 12%. I have had my TL1000S, (semi faring bike) at an indicated 180mph, on stock gearing, that bike has no hope of 180mph!

i think you have 15 or 14 spikes on you small chain wheel original it has 16 spikes, so your r6 will show you a higher speed as it is ...

600 max speed is about 160mph not every bike is the same, some are just faster then others by a few mph or so

only a speed trap beam or radar gun can tell you the true speed... GPS becomes less accurate the faster you go... plenty of Magazine editors got the newer R6 to 170+mph through a speed trap beam... so there :P

You must have not riden anything other than a 600, thats if you even ride.... A ss600 is a ss600, and ss600s accelerate incredibly slow, every gear you can make a sandwich and eat it waiting for the power to come but it never does, shift, repeat, until youv slowly crawled to 260.... What the fuck do you know about speed? come back when youv riden a 230+hp turbo or blown 1k. I wouldint ride a little 600 as a grocery getter, it feels like a scooter.

the newer the 600 is the worse their powerband becomes. 2007+ 600s are the worst for acceleration, they are especialy balless under 9k rpm, because their continually made with track in mind and you dont ride below 9k on the track, so thats where the power really starts. the last 600 i rode was a friends 09 cammed zx6 track bike and it was just as fast as my 05 636. It is my opinion that they are slow and incredibly boring, that doesint mean they are, its just my opinion.

@ninja6kid slow? it eats a cbr600 on the track lol. R6 is meant for the track due to the power distributed at high rpms, not low. hence the slower acceleration up to 10k rpm ish, after that itll wipe the floor with lot of bikes (obviously not the daytona or anything, 3 cylinder = beast)

On my R6 2007 when the speedometer displays 271, the gps displays 250. I have all stock, no changes were made on the bike.

I can;t stand digital speedos, at least with anologue you can gauge where you are at by the position out of the corner of your eye.

Digital forced you to look and register the numbers being shown.

i own a 05 r6 and thats bull crap about real speed,mine is 2 up in the back and i have had mine at top speed for a long time and it only would do 193,which should be around 170-175 range i think,but your r6 will for sure not do anywere close to the speed you are showing.

I know its actually legislation where I live that production vehicles have the speedo inaccurate up to +10% (at what speed I do not know), and I assume its probably the same anywhere else. Generally the faster you go, the less accurate it becomes.

@beyond305 no 600cc will make 180+mph under any circumstances. Your speedo is lying. most probably you have non stock sprockets:)

Get a gps and test it.

No limitation on bikes though. Got my Honda CBR600RR Hannspree up to 163mph lately measured on gps straight road.

@rkkcyp ok well my sprocket was stock, the whole bike was stock. was a 07 r6 and theres a way to go over 150, you actually have to over rev 5th gear when going into 6th. no one on here has done that, when over revved in 5th, 6th gear makes alot more power thus pushing the bike to a higher top speed.

also, how can you say a GPS is more accurate than the speedo on a bike? lets look at the facts, a gps uses multiple satellites to triangulate your position FROM OUTER SPACE, !

@beyond305 think about how far the info has to travel, sat to earth to sat 2 to sat 3 then back to sat 1 then back to you, hence the reason GPS lag so much. IMHO gps are far less accurate than if you have a actual speedo on board displaying your speed DIGITALLY! even then there are inaccuracies. but you have less electronics talking back and forth than a GPS. only REAL way to tell speed is with a speed gun

It's a Yamaha r6 06 and gps is a garmin foretrex 201

As it turned out I've got different sprockets (racing ones) that give better acceleration but less speed.

got the bike used and already had them on.
