I still haven't been able to make blocks... I write them in song, copy and past them to block, and then delete in song, but when I hit play it's still all at once. Can someone help me?
I use Reason 6, can I transfer music from Song Mode to Block mode? I haven't used block yet, I've had it for a while since Record and Reason 5 but all my songs are done in song mode. I can see why it might be counterproductive to go to blocks when I already have them sequenced but I'd like to use it an assess it's potential. I can't seem to figure it out and can't find the info in help.
@killahkalam You copy and paste elements from song mode to a block. If you have, for example, an 8 bar idea in song mode just lasso the 8 bars on all tracks, copy them,, go to block mode to a new blank block, paste them. You can now delete them from song mode and draw that block in their place where they were.
If ur a reason user heres what u do: copy the shit you want in your block. go into block mode and paste it. then thats the block when you return to normal mode
using reason 5, anyone know if it's possible/a good idea to control Blocks live? Would be neat to set up 10 blocks and be able to switch between them live, as you could with Redrum patterns as the track plays through.
the thing i noticed about the blocks is since the blocks separate the verse and the chorus and everything else i found that when im working on a transition lets say from a verse to chorus, it gets really annoying having to switch to song mode every time and then switching back to block mode to make adjustments.. and i feel like im the only 1 thats having this problem, this problem alone has made me desert the whole block mode thing altogether cuz its more of a hassle... any suggestions?
@ScissorzAOW Assuming the elements of your transition aren't necessarily things changing on every track you could do those in Song mode and lay them on top of the blocks sections. You could even plan out your transition in song mode and then just copy the elements over to their respective blocks if you like once you have it worked out how you want.
Ok, but how would I update the beat? I noticed you copied the main to the verse making all the clips unique again. Doesn't that defeat the point of blocks? I'm used to using sequencers where you simply instance a clip instead of a whole chunk. Don't get me wrong, sequencing a whole column is cool, but without per clip instancing it's still makes me feel constrained to doing it 'right' the first time. I like to rough out an idea with patterns and later polish them. Blocks still has copy/pasting
This tutorial is really well done, and it was the singular driving force in my upgrading from Reason 4 to 5. I couldn't -not- have blocks. They're too awesome.
love ur video!! I'm having trouble and i need help with my Reason Record.. bought it few days ago... when recording, let say... Piano.. playing it back, the sound seems like it stutter, i would say?... whats wrong?.. drums seems to work fine, but any instrument sounds? stutter really bad... like it slices... pls help!
Ok so I just bought record and it will upgrade my reason 4 to reason 5. I was wondering if i have songs made on reason 4 saved can i put audio on them with record without any hassle?
@DentonDickerson Yes absolutely. If you open a song from Reason 4 in Record 1.5 you can just start adding audio tracks from that point on and working on it in Record. If you want get in deeper for pro mixing, you could choose to reroute your Reason 4 mixer over to the big Record mixer but it's optional. Check out: youtube.com/watch?v=ZqkicC-U4SQ
This is a feature that you can only truly appreciate once you've had the pleasure of using it. This alone inspires me in so many ways, it's fantastic!
Great job on the Micro tutorials for they are very helpful in the upcoming release of Reason 5.
Can't wait to put my MPD24 to work on the new Kong feature as well as utilize WAV files created from the Beaterator on my PSP by way of transferring them USB. Will I still need Recycle to edit and crop samples or will I be able to do that in Kong?
I find blocks kinda counterproductive :/ .. Honestly, I think it's simpler just to copy&paste something when I want it to repeat than to create block and having to overwrite anything that's already there - but I don't want it to be there.. Well, ok. Maybe not counterproductive instead of rather useless.. But we'll see :)
Looks awesome, I just wish tutorial songs sounded like finished, professional songs as opposed to some amateurish demo song. Get in touch with me if you would like professional sounding release quality songs for software demos.
Blocks is a darkhorse feature. I don't think some of the newer users realize how much this will impact their workflow. I know Blocks addresses the #1 problem I had in Reason. I could make a slammin' loop, but it was always hard to turn it into a song. Now this process has been streamlined, simplified...A very creative process!
Blocks don't sound exciting at first glance but I think will be extremely useful and time saving. Wish I had blocks now for some of the tunes I'm working on.

you mentioned not wanting us to see you doing the whole creation on the track... not true!!! It would be very beneficial to see a master of reason/record doing a track... specially one like the one on the vid !!!
Oh wow. You guys really know what you're doing. It's great to see software made by the people who use it, rather than just "for" the people who use it. :)
@PropellerheadSW Any chance of posting the song file (after August 25th) so that we can check it out in detail? I think it'd be handy to have the Micro Tutorials complemented that way.
You need to do a video on Kong's routing. Like show if/how its possible to have more than 2 effects on a drum pad. Also an advanced sampling video; I wanna know if you can hook up a complicated combinator synth to the sampling input and put it into an NN-XT or something without having to render your project.
@brandonavs Generally speaking, James and I doing different types of tutorials. I explain features and production techniques in a more introductory fashion. They're a way to get you up and running fast with the new versions. James' tips are for more advanced routings/techniques. He's an expert at that sort of thing. I'll forward your comment to him for an upcoming video. He's got Reason 5 and Record 1.5 tips planned that will include exactly the sort of thing you want to see. Thanks!

@Ludwigvoncatman What do you mean when you say it's still all at once?
PropellerheadSW 2 weeks ago
@PropellerheadSW That when I push play, everything (drums, octo rex, synth, etc) are all going at once, instead of the blocks I put them in.

As you have made a number of Record demo songs available for download, could you please also include this one as well.
Many people are asking for this, and it would be really interesting to look at the finished song in reference to the Tutorial.
It is actually a very appealing track and it is always good to see how real experts construct songs and the various techniques they use.
Please, please, please.
