I think Madonna really thought the French were superior in style. In the 80's, French designers were HUGE. They still are. Paris was the center of fashion. Madonna's friend in the 80's was Maripol, a French clothing designer.

Huh? There's no such thing as an "Italian Immigrant Accent".

Your accent comes from surroundings--regardless of ethnic origin. If a child of Italian ethnicity was born/raised in Brooklyn, New York, he would have a Brooklyn accent. If the same child was born/raised in Mississippi, he'd have a Southern accent. Doesn't matter where your ancestors came from. Accents are acquired; you're not BORN with them.

Even though Madonna was born & raised in Michigan, she's a chameleon with her accents. When she moved to NYC in her 20s, she started talking in a sort of Brooklyn-type accent. Now, since living in the UK for so many years, she has sort of a "Trans-Atlantic" (half American/Half English) accent... kind of like the way movie stars talked in the 1930s.

I disagree. If a child is born and raised in a home with immigrant parents the child will develop sort of a hybrid accent. A combination of immigrant & environmental dialect. For instance, a child of Chinese immigrants & a child of Italian immigrants who live in the same geological area will develop different accents even though they grow up in the same town. So, there is such a thing as an Italian Immigrant Italian American Accent.

think this interview is from january 1984, as she wore that lime green top on the cover of the british pop magazine "smash hits" .that issue was released in january 84, after holiday had become her first british hit.
