Beautiful lyrics: Each restless heart beats so imperfectly. But when you come and I am filled with wonder. Sometimes I think I glimpse eternity. This song is for you my beautiful mother. R.I.P
@Stersible In one way I'm agree with you, but in another way I like this one better, but Josh Gorban could never make a better version if Secret Garden never had made the original one with this fantastic lyrics and melody
This is a great song. And the original is the best in my opinion ( This being the original)
But i think you should all go check out the version Jan Werner Danielsen did. That man could realy sing. Think that one is way better than Josh Grobans version
Secret Garden with Brian Kennedy puts all others to shame with this song. NOthing beats hearing the original artist performing their work. I agree with the comment that Groban's version comes in at second but, I'll have to say a distant second. Be it known that I'm a big fan of Groban but this is utterly sublime when Kennedy sings it and Secret Garden plays behind him.
I don't understand how this song can be described as American Idolish since the man who wrote and sings it is Irish as is the violinist. The pianist is Norwegian. I think the only american was the lady who sings with Brian near the middle before the choral part. I've never heard anything remotely this good come out of American Idol and I've been watching it for years. You are indisputably entitled to your opinion and whether or not t affects you is very personal but your description baffled me.
I think it doesn't help matters that this is one of those songs that has been criminally used over and over by two-bit wannabe pop stars on things like AI and shmaltzy pop acts like Westlife that people find it hard to take to it. Before this, I'd only heard the Josh Groban version and came across this when I heard the Japanese version and thought it sounded familiar. Much as I love the Josh Groban version, this version is better and far nicer to listen to, IMO
The music was written by Rolf Løvland, and the lyrics was written by Brendan Graham. Secret Garden is a Irish-Norwegian band. So both Ireland and Norway has an equal part in this beautiful song. =P
Tyleet85: Fionnuala Sherry has never composed anything and specially not this song so how to can conclude Ireland got equal pride in this song as Norway is beyond me. Further more, I doubt very much even Norway got any pride in Rolf's compositions. If what country you're grew up has any influence how good you're gonna be as an musican, to grow up in Norway can only count in your disfavour compared to Germany or Austria, when it comes to clasical music, unless your grandfather came from Scotland.
Sorry, but your message makes no sense to me =P When did I mention Fionnuala Sherry? Or pointed out that any country had any pride in the song? Or that any country holds more talent than others? And how did you manage to drag Scotland into it?
@Tyleet85, answer to your first question: quote: "Secret Garden is a Irish-Norwegian band." (Hint: who ARE Secret Garden?)
Answer to your second question: I never said certain countries holds more talent than others, but that comming from certain countries make it harder to be a talent, which includes Norway.
Answer to your last question: Edward Greig's grand father.
@Chris1Joyce, I would prefer if you didn't start calling me names to get your points across.
I also ask you to check my very first comment all over again, as I was only clearing some facts about who had written and composed the song, not who the actual band-members are.
And I still can't see how Scotland, Edward Grieg, or his grandfather has anything to do with this, unless you put in in connection to your previous remark. Which still holds no connection to the original topic. =)
I also can't see a point to this discussion at all, because as far as facts are concerned, we're both right.
And the singing and the lyrics just sound so corny to my ears... so american idolish.. but this might all be because i heard the westlife version first.. Dont get me wrong because i love Secret Garden's music.. Just really dont fancy this song.. 'cept the first minute.. ;p
Nono, you got me all wrong. The westlife version sucks so bad. I just dont like any of these versions because the song just sounds so corny to my ears. Beautiful song, but i just cant listen it without thinking "ehh.. ive heard this kind of songs so many times"
This would be better if it went on like the first minute.. that violin is just so beautiful.. the singing ruins it in my opinion... but that is just my opinion
I've just got the CD,Once in a Blue Moon, with this song on it. It's a revelation !! I had it on the car CD player today. What a song to sing to. Thanks for the video and especially the words. There's usually a line I can't quite make out whilst listening. Photographs are beautiful.
I actually thought that Josh Groban's version of this song was the best, and it's pretty good too, but it cannot be compared to this one! It's a very beautiful song, but some of the artists just destroys it completely! I especially don't like Westlife's version of it. But that's obviously just my opinion.
This song was originally cpmposed by Secret Garden's (Rolf Løvland and Brendan Graham) ... and has now been covered more than 100 times by great artists including Josh Groban.
No countries have ever participated in the eurovision song-contest with this song.. I believe you think of Secret Gardens "Nocturne". They won in 95' with that song.. both beautiful songs anyways:)
This is absolutely the most beautiful version of this song I have ever heard. Very fitting as it is the original. Every other version I have heard (Josh Groban, Westlife, Paul Potts, Becky Taylor, and Celtic Woman to name a few), though decent/good in their own rights, all fall short of this, the original. The slideshow is pleasant also and doesn't detract in any way from the song.
I think this version is the best. I really didnt like this song until i heard this version as everyone had sung it and it was so overplayed. But this version is great, and the original!
yeye... it's really sad to see how many that all of a sudden loves this song when westlife covers it, seemingly never even heard this one... it's a shame, cause this one is that much prettier=')

This song..
It makes me feel happy and sad at the same time..
It makes me think of someone special to me!
Not only just 1 person.. A lot of people who are special to me..
People who are always there for me..
People i shared my thoughts and feeling with..
People i love more then anything in the world!
People i will never leave..
People who are part of my world and heart..
