  • wale is a beast

  • He never said his girlfriend was white, he said light-skinned, as in a light-skinned African American woman. Pretty much he's talking about an issue among African Americans, there's still an issue today about light-skinned, brown-skinned and dark-skinned, which actually started back in slavery times, by Caucasian people who pretty much treated lighter people differently just because they were lighter. He's pretty much bringing it up to make awareness of the fact that this issue still exists.

  • Lighter has always seemed better, he's ust saying how he felt and how society made him feel when he was younger, that dark is seen as a bad and negative thing. He stated that he has a generalization about light-skin women, that they would cheat on him, so he cheated on them first, which is like a defense mechanism. I think he's saying how he felt when he was young, not how he feels now, but mentioning how brown and dark-skinned young African American people (mostly men I'm guessing) feel.

  • this totally contradicts his "pretty girls" video...O_O

  • Who is the girl on the chorus?

  • sounds like Chrisette Michelle

  • it is

  • It's called colorism. It is an actual sociological topic. He illustrates very vividly the experience of a Dark-skinned Black man versus the lighter skinned Black man. Ideals embedded into minds since Africans were robbed of their culture and enslaved. Preach Wale... Preach.

  • i can tell ur very intelligent!!!! preach sista!

  • Im light skinned black this shit made me think though. Didnt even know dark skinned people felt like this.

  • lmao very true. i didnt know dudes felt this way tho.

  • please stop responding to LibertarianGal's ignorant comments. We can avoid the black hole of her vast stupidity if we just focus on the beauty of this song

  • shut the fuck up. you sound like a fuckin' dumbass

  • lmao if anyone is uncomfortable it has to be you. why do you need to be so defensive about wale's insecurities? if you must know im nigerian and russian. i have very fair skin so i cant put my self in his position entirely but if the only thing you got out of the song was that he hates himself you must be an idiot.

  • Lmao! No, "my friend" i have absolutely NO problem with my color. believe that. I'm happy the way i am. Don't jump to conclusions before you know the story.

  • yo this is real deeeeep

  • Shitt Real..

  • wale is dope

  • dhis go deep

  • shit go hard

  • For the life of me I can't understand why there is so much animosity towards the video for "Pretty Girls", it is obvious that Wale understands the whole light skin vs dark skin mess, he has obviously overcame that so the video is not a reflection of a "color complex" he has against himself. So why can't we just say that he(if he had anything to do with the casting in the first place) chose women who were beautiful not particularly paying attention to a specific skin tone.

  • This beaat is crazyyyy

  • LOVE THIS SONG!!! Wale is a great artist!! Wale + Chrisette=Great Combo!

  • Wale, well said.

  • This song is so deep. I'm dark and I do feel this. Nothing against light skinned but I thought same thing light skins will be over us dark skinned with women and nowadays people are like "nigga u dark" as though its bad never "nigga u light" best part of song "Hopin Wes Snipes makes my life a lil bit different"

  • omg he is very underated...

  • @VitaNegern77 yes, it's pretty obvious if you listen to the lyrics.

  • @djjoshsnowden Ok thanks i just wanted a confirmation

  • He means lighter Afro-Americans. But I think it just depends, I'm black but I have nothing against white guys.

  • I know that now , i just wanted confirmation . i dont know why y'all turned against me . I was only tellin the truth and you would definitely not date a white guy right ?

  • I'm not against you, otherwise I wouldn't tell you what I think. I do believe that the skin color really doesn't matter. If I liked a white guy and he liked me too, I would date him..
