I'm in 8th grade and i love jets and the air force and i didnt even know that and I asked my parents who were good at history in school and they didnt know
I'm a 50 year old dumd ass Austalian and within a second of seeing the question we all answered "Chuck" Yeager, probably depends on demographics but we live in a state where Bert Hinkler was born and aviation was a much taught subject as we all knew this from 3rd grade.
It happened during the whole race to put a man in space. He did it with a broken arm. They asked Yeager to be an astronaut but he was focused on beating the Russians in fighter jet tech. See the movie "The Right Stuff". It depicts all those guys. He also broke a Russian altitude record(he left earth's atmosphere) but it destroyed the plane.
@KkaylaJjanes well you must have a one dumb teacher than. that is almost like not knowing who was the first american in space. so much for the US education system and those teaching in it lmao let me guess he knows how earth was created 168 hours :D
@walkinondamoon1 wow, your comment was the stupidest most pathetic comment that i have ever read, no one care about the first person to match the speed of sound in an airplane. And the american educational system and those who teach it was the best
@KkaylaJjanes I knew Chuck Yeager from the get-go. I actually thought it was a really simple question. My 29 year old wife would know this as well.
Chuck flew in the Bell X-1 nicknamed Glamorous Glennis in '45, if I am not mistaken. It was not really an airplane though, as much as a rocket with wings.
The only reason I knew this in fifth grade is because I have always been obsessed with aviation. I also thought the Bell X-1, that little orange jet, was one of the coolest looking planes ever :)
There's not a chance any fifth grader in the world knows this. I'm in 11th grade and I don't know this, plus when I was in fifth grade I was still shitting in my pants during naptime
@XxKakikomiAddictxX Well, I dunno. I learned that Charles Lindburgh (sp?) was the first man to make a solo trans-Atlantic flight when I was way younger than fifth grade...
@XxKakikomiAddictxX I know it from reading that one book about Amelia Earhart about a hundred times when I was a kid. x3 I recall perfectly some of the weirdest bits of trivia...
unlucky, but at least she took it well. not like the usual greedy cunts that start crying about losing a million, she genuinely looked happy to win something
Ok..I know that americans are proud and stuff(proud to be dumb?ok as you wish...) but...who the fuck cares about the 1st pilot to break the sound of speed??im proud not because im european but im proud not to be american.
