The new whales name is Shouka. It's still a fun show, but I kinda thought she would do more tricks like spin in the air while jumping or jump really high to hit a ball hanging from a wire. Also, the trainers don't do swimming tricks with her :(
Yeah, the original shamu died a while ago. At every Sea World they have a Shamu show where the oldest is called Shamu - boy or girl. Look it up or go on other videos, everybody shares there information. :D

Actually, the name Shamu is more of a trademark that refers to all of the orcas. There are different orcas with names that they mention in their shows, like Kayla and Orki, but they refer to the whales as Shamu (like in shows, when they call the whale Kayla but ask the kids if they'd like to meet 'Shamu') It's more of an endearing tribute to their first whale and now what they continue to call all their orcas in a whole.

I personally like Believe better. No offense, but who ever created this show and behaviors to the music, don't really have a sense of rhythm. The set behaviors aren't fitting to the song.

Yes, I know no matter how big the facilities and how great the animal husbandry program it will never be as good as their natural environment and behavioural issues arrise especially with such intelligent creatures as these. BUT, places like Sea World have brought people closer to these animals. They brough a public awarness to these animals and people have become attached to them, they love them. In that respect they are helping to preserve these animals for future generations.
Compaire how society viewed these animals before and after thier use in marine parks. Before the general concncious didn't know about them much and could care less. But now, if a dolphin, orca or any other marine mammel is in danger and over whelming outcry from the public is heard and are more vigilant in protecting them and their environment. There is now dolphin safe tuna because people don't want to see flipper killed, etc. So not all bad comes of these parks.
Besides, more and more are being captive bred so they aren't looking to wild populations to supply their parks. More is being discovered about how they "tick" which can help concervations efforts in the future. Where would they be without this info and these upclose interactions? Possibly on the endagerd species list??
Does anyone remember the film FREE WILLY? or even do you remember the real whale behind the film!?! and how he died before he had the ability to be fully released into the wild?? Whales cant be released once they get into the habit of being fed by humans, this is why they cannot be released and why there are laws against how close you can get to them in the wild! Find out about this things before you actually have the ceek to diss them!
the whale that played willy was named kieko and he actually was released back into the wild people who worked with him monitored him for a few months in the wild to make sure his transition went smoothly he died a few years later from pnemonia

When he was eventually found, he had been allowing people to walk over his back so had to be brought back and helped to gain weight again, as he could not kill fish to eat when he was in the wild. None of the passing orca 'adopted' him before he eventually died.
No, they are dangerous wild animals and frequently get aggressive with their trainers. Sea World has no right to peddle the myth that orca are cute, cuddly, or loving.
i really think you should learn what your talking about before you comment to our 'stupidities'. As your learning about animal behaviour, you'll realise animals such as dolphins and whales naturally beach themselves when ill, in order to kill themselves and stop suffering. This natural behavior isn't possible, hence the reason they end up killing themselves in an attempt to carry out this natural behavior.
Sea World is nice at first u know when they cure, they investigate, etc but dont u see that those killer whale incidents that happen in the SW are desperate acts of liberty!!! I say, Sea World, help animals that need help, but dont take from the sea those precious animals from their homes and families!

sea world is probably the best place for a sea creature to live in captivity. Some sea animals such as whales, dolphins, seaturtles, and seals are abandoned at birth. Or they get injured from HUMANS!! and can nolonger survive in the wild so Sea world and other organizations captures them, heals them then sees if they can go back into the wild or if they have to be in captivity
Sea World Is not AT ALL a cruel place. they actualy save animals lives. they dont always keep them. they take them in from the wild and care for them until they are better.. if they feel that the animal wont surrvive in the wild then the animal is taken into sea worlds care.

We are travelling to San Diego this fall and Seaworld is our first stop - I have been to the one in San Antonio, and it is so HOT there it was not as enjoyable as it could have been.

When I grow up, I want to work at Sea World and jump with whales and dolphins in shows. I've always wanted to do that my whole life. I've also never been to sea world, except my sister. Also, great song!

I personally like Believe better. No offense, but who ever created this show and behaviors to the music, don't really have a sense of rhythm. The set behaviors aren't fitting to the song.

even though they may exploit these whales for profit, think about it, how many people were concerned about the well being of whales, dolphins and other marine life before they started being used in marine parks?

Yes, I know no matter how big the facilities and how great the animal husbandry program it will never be as good as their natural environment and behavioural issues arrise especially with such intelligent creatures as these. BUT, places like Sea World have brought people closer to these animals. They brough a public awarness to these animals and people have become attached to them, they love them. In that respect they are helping to preserve these animals for future generations.

Compaire how society viewed these animals before and after thier use in marine parks. Before the general concncious didn't know about them much and could care less. But now, if a dolphin, orca or any other marine mammel is in danger and over whelming outcry from the public is heard and are more vigilant in protecting them and their environment. There is now dolphin safe tuna because people don't want to see flipper killed, etc. So not all bad comes of these parks.

Besides, more and more are being captive bred so they aren't looking to wild populations to supply their parks. More is being discovered about how they "tick" which can help concervations efforts in the future. Where would they be without this info and these upclose interactions? Possibly on the endagerd species list??

Does anyone remember the film FREE WILLY? or even do you remember the real whale behind the film!?! and how he died before he had the ability to be fully released into the wild?? Whales cant be released once they get into the habit of being fed by humans, this is why they cannot be released and why there are laws against how close you can get to them in the wild! Find out about this things before you actually have the ceek to diss them!

the whale that played willy was named kieko and he actually was released back into the wild people who worked with him monitored him for a few months in the wild to make sure his transition went smoothly he died a few years later from pnemonia

no, they worked with him for four years before he swam off during the monitored swims in the ocean and the tracking system failed to find him. When he was eventually found, he had been allowing people to walk over his back so had to be brought back and helped to gain weight again, as he could not kill fish to eat when he was in the wild. None of the passing orca 'adopted' him before he eventually died.

they breed them them so they wont come extinct
and the whale like's it there if they were being craul to it then it wouldnt love its trainers but when i went there they are so loving towards them

No, they are dangerous wild animals and frequently get aggressive with their trainers. Sea World has no right to peddle the myth that orca are cute, cuddly, or loving.

i really think you should learn what your talking about before you comment to our 'stupidities'. As your learning about animal behaviour, you'll realise animals such as dolphins and whales naturally beach themselves when ill, in order to kill themselves and stop suffering. This natural behavior isn't possible, hence the reason they end up killing themselves in an attempt to carry out this natural behavior.

Sea World is nice at first u know when they cure, they investigate, etc but dont u see that those killer whale incidents that happen in the SW are desperate acts of liberty!!! I say, Sea World, help animals that need help, but dont take from the sea those precious animals from their homes and families!
Oh and another thing, I watch these videos to learn about animal behavior, not to post things, its just that, i read ur stupidities and i had to say something...

Im srry but Sea World is a chain of marine animal emprisionment... I know it can be good sometimes like when the animals are sick or abandoned but when they are taken out of their family, its just cruel... so cruel it ever drives them to suecide! Hugo, from the sea aquarium killed himself because it was driving him insane, the shows, the small home... look at what the first Shamu did to that lady! look it up... it was like in the 1960s... (i think 66)... it was a sure cry for help!!!

sea world is a place where they are safe from sharks or others ok...they took them cause is either cause they were lost in sea with no pack...all sea world is doing is taking care of it before they leave it back to the ocean...

CaracalKittyWild u have no idea what your talking about, i took part in a connections programme with seaworld and no way is it a bad place! these animals were taken from the wild in order to be taken care of..and guess what, most of them were injured by humans!!! seaworld nurses them back to health or allows endangered animals to get their numbers up....tell me thats evil and creul!

sea world is probably the best place for a sea creature to live in captivity. Some sea animals such as whales, dolphins, seaturtles, and seals are abandoned at birth. Or they get injured from HUMANS!! and can nolonger survive in the wild so Sea world and other organizations captures them, heals them then sees if they can go back into the wild or if they have to be in captivity

Sea World Is not AT ALL a cruel place. they actualy save animals lives. they dont always keep them. they take them in from the wild and care for them until they are better.. if they feel that the animal wont surrvive in the wild then the animal is taken into sea worlds care.

Sea world is a cruel bad place. They take animals from the wild (but now they finally quited not to) If You are an anti-captivity person no body would go there, because you are supporting them. Orcas never belonged in 'tanks' in the whole beginning but people are just to pig-headed to notice

We are travelling to San Diego this fall and Seaworld is our first stop - I have been to the one in San Antonio, and it is so HOT there it was not as enjoyable as it could have been.
Great video - and I commend Seaworld for their conservation efforts. free2help - I assume you are driving a hybrid car, are a vegetarian, etc? The whales don't appear to be in any pain.

actually sea world treats their animals with a lot of care and trust me when I say their whales are better off performing then struggling in the wild. did you know that most killer whales in the wild die because of starvation. tell me how providing them with food is cruel now...
