Here's why Garchomp was banned: Sand veil. It makes the game a joke. You can never hit the thing reliably and it can win games it shouldn't because of luck. End of story.

and i dont run damage calcs and i spend less than 1 minuet coming up with a pokemon set, ev's iv's, etc. i even stick to my favorite pokes, (like ill use vaporeon as a Sp wall over blissy just cause i like vaporeon ) i easily win upwards of 80% of my battles. you dont need to "spend your life with EVs and IVs" and the uber tier wouldn't be a prob if people weren't just going for the biggest monster

Who needs Smogon to learn how to battle like a champ? I just make my own strategies from scratch. Strategies from other people might not be the kind of strategy to match your skill level but anyone can make their own strategy and have advantages in that perspective. I could use weak pokemon and raise them to be strong with my strategy that i find easy for myself but may not be as easy for other people. YOU decide HOW YOU battle. Do that and there's no end to how good you could become! :)

@TehGaberz91 Then use fucking aerial ace or swift. Game Freak makes it so things can counter certain things. Stop getting butthurt about evasion, if Garchomp is such a big threat then everything should be packing a move that never misses.
@UnlimitedPOWWWER It's not that easy. Aerial Ace isn't a strong move without STAB, and given Garchomp's stupid bulk for an offensive Pokemon the thing will likely survive. Swift also sucks an awful amount of balls. In general nevermiss moves not named Aura Sphere are rather weak and won't be scoring a lot of kills, and will only be situationally useful. As for Aura Sphere not a lot of Pokemon get it.
@UnlimitedPOWWWER And while people may disagree on the role of luck in the game, Garchomp is stupidly powerful that it doesn't even need it. Awesome Double STAB that is barely resisted by anything? Great Attack stat and Swords Dance to boost it? A Speed stat that outpaces most of the unscarfed metagame? Natural bulk that surpasses Swampert's, allowing it to take even random Hidden Power Ice users like a boss? Garchomp is a great Pokemon without luck; luck pretty much pushed it over the edge.
@UnlimitedPOWWWER And THAT was a pretty huge part of the problem. That pretty much the way to deal with Garchomp was to build a team that revolved around using, supporting, and countering it. I do agree with Smogon though. Banning Garchomp and Salamence was a good option but they do not compare to Ubers. Rayquaza completely outranks garchomp and salamence and so do a shit load of other ubers. Garchomp and Salamence out ranked A LOT of OU pokemon but they should have made another BL for ubers because you never see an ubers battle with a Garchomp or Salamence if it's a tourney. Smogon only did this to make it for fair for everyone so not every team would worry about a Garchomp or Sally
I don't disagree with Smogon, but I don't follow everything about Smogon. I do follow their tiers, though. They make the metagame very balanced. I mean, it's tough to deny the fact that Garchomp overcentralized the metagame. He was seriously fast, boasted incredible Attack in combination with that speed, had decent defensive stats, high HP, and, God forbid, STAB Eathquake to top it all off. The only thing that MIGHT be able to counter/check it is a Choice Scarf Suicune with Ice Beam.

The tier system is neccesary, unless you want to see almost ONLT legendary pokemon in the metagame, its bad enough with OU whores. @positivepichu i think you missed the point, smogon's metagame is self contained meaning it's made and regulated for smogon users by smogon users. it also happens to be the only logical 6v6 rule set so naturally it's used as the english speaking standard. if you think smogon's rules are restrictive you should see the official rules (both TCPi and gamefreak)
And as for math, I'm not debating it has it's benefits. I'm arguing how BIG of a fucking loser you must be to spend all your time doing calculations on how to use it to exploit every goddamn rule of Pokemon (IV's, EV's, etc.) and win every time. I lose loads to people on serebii but beat better people on youtube frequently-Is this because either i'm a noob or it's impossible to predict what they'll use since they CBA choosing proper stuff? Also getting perfect IVs is very hard so i usually just get the highest i can over 5 pokes O_o
@Togekab00m Most ppl on Smogon use Shoddy (and the newly released Pokemon lab) where you can get prefect EVs. Wi-fi makes it sort of difficult, but the same situation applies to everyone who doesn't use Pokesav or spend hours IV breeding. There should be IV info on Bulbapedia or sth.
And on the note of Serebii to youtube, most ppl on youtube are casual players, whereas serebii has more competitive ones.

@Mcheetah Stats are not the only concern. Look at Slaking, with a whopping base stat total of 670 and is NU due to its bad ability. Look at Smeargle, who has abase stat total of 260 and is OU due to being such a good baton passer. Magmortar, which has a BST of 540, is UU. Breloom, with a BST of 460, is OU. In fact, I was sort of surprised how tiers were hardly based on stats at all, which sort of proves your statement ironic and invalid.

@UnlimitedPOWWWER It's not that easy. Aerial Ace isn't a strong move without STAB, and given Garchomp's stupid bulk for an offensive Pokemon the thing will likely survive. Swift also sucks an awful amount of balls. In general nevermiss moves not named Aura Sphere are rather weak and won't be scoring a lot of kills, and will only be situationally useful. As for Aura Sphere not a lot of Pokemon get it.

@UnlimitedPOWWWER And while people may disagree on the role of luck in the game, Garchomp is stupidly powerful that it doesn't even need it. Awesome Double STAB that is barely resisted by anything? Great Attack stat and Swords Dance to boost it? A Speed stat that outpaces most of the unscarfed metagame? Natural bulk that surpasses Swampert's, allowing it to take even random Hidden Power Ice users like a boss? Garchomp is a great Pokemon without luck; luck pretty much pushed it over the edge.

@UnlimitedPOWWWER And THAT was a pretty huge part of the problem. That pretty much the way to deal with Garchomp was to build a team that revolved around using, supporting, and countering it. Are you honestly fine playing a metagame where every team, every battle is the same revolving around one Pokemon? I'm not, that's for sure.
Tell me, do you want Mewtwo banned? Or, for something a little more comparable, do you want Skymin unbanned?

I do agree with Smogon though. Banning Garchomp and Salamence was a good option but they do not compare to Ubers. Rayquaza completely outranks garchomp and salamence and so do a shit load of other ubers. Garchomp and Salamence out ranked A LOT of OU pokemon but they should have made another BL for ubers because you never see an ubers battle with a Garchomp or Salamence if it's a tourney. Smogon only did this to make it for fair for everyone so not every team would worry about a Garchomp or Sally

I don't disagree with Smogon, but I don't follow everything about Smogon. I do follow their tiers, though. They make the metagame very balanced. I mean, it's tough to deny the fact that Garchomp overcentralized the metagame. He was seriously fast, boasted incredible Attack in combination with that speed, had decent defensive stats, high HP, and, God forbid, STAB Eathquake to top it all off. The only thing that MIGHT be able to counter/check it is a Choice Scarf Suicune with Ice Beam.

The tier system is neccesary, unless you want to see almost ONLT legendary pokemon in the metagame, its bad enough with OU whores. @positivepichu i think you missed the point, smogon's metagame is self contained meaning it's made and regulated for smogon users by smogon users. it also happens to be the only logical 6v6 rule set so naturally it's used as the english speaking standard. if you think smogon's rules are restrictive you should see the official rules (both TCPi and gamefreak)

And as for math, I'm not debating it has it's benefits. I'm arguing how BIG of a fucking loser you must be to spend all your time doing calculations on how to use it to exploit every goddamn rule of Pokemon (IV's, EV's, etc.) and win every time. Using it as the basis of the game's mechanics is one thing, and I don't disagree with that. But using it to basically 'cheat' like all you Smogon fags do, is beyond pathetic.

probably in 5th is going back to OU, unless they make some sort of Borderline between OU and Uber, there is a lot of uber now in 5th gen, Salamence and Garchomp are like meh now in that area, even Latios and Latias since Soul Dew can't be acquired now, unless they do some sort of event, or that third installment that it will come out no matter what

Smogon needs to banish off the face of the Earth. Using algebra for Pokemon is like using a Dictionary for Scrabble. Or like in that one episode of American Dad, where Roger used an architect for Jenga!
Pokemon isn't SUPPOSED to be all about winning battles! And this comes from someone who's won World Tournaments! Smogon sucks ass because it takes out the fun of the game and says "This is what you're supposed to use, and this isn't." Even a Smeargle can beat a Mewtwo with the right strategy.

I lose loads to people on serebii but beat better people on youtube frequently-Is this because either i'm a noob or it's impossible to predict what they'll use since they CBA choosing proper stuff? Also getting perfect IVs is very hard so i usually just get the highest i can over 5 pokes O_o

@Togekab00m Most ppl on Smogon use Shoddy (and the newly released Pokemon lab) where you can get prefect EVs. Wi-fi makes it sort of difficult, but the same situation applies to everyone who doesn't use Pokesav or spend hours IV breeding. There should be IV info on Bulbapedia or sth.
And on the note of Serebii to youtube, most ppl on youtube are casual players, whereas serebii has more competitive ones.

@Mcheetah Stats are not the only concern. Look at Slaking, with a whopping base stat total of 670 and is NU due to its bad ability. Look at Smeargle, who has abase stat total of 260 and is OU due to being such a good baton passer. Magmortar, which has a BST of 540, is UU. Breloom, with a BST of 460, is OU. In fact, I was sort of surprised how tiers were hardly based on stats at all, which sort of proves your statement ironic and invalid.

No, I don't only care about winning, I think that losing also works out and the important thing is what you learn from the match. If you would have bothered to read articles from places like the The Smog web magazine, then you would have realized how important math is to battles (e.g. damage calculations).

Cloyster icicle spear counters yache berry garchomp btw, but smogon never troubled to the calc, not that cloyster should be used in OU, but the argument that garchomp haves no counters is false. Latias is worse, ok gone, salamance is kinda gay withouth latias, true, now its kingdra, gay ban that, scizor is too powerful now, ban, gengar and rotom forms are being gay, ban, Dragonite the only dragon is being gay, ban, tyranitar and hippo are gay sand, ban....(...)

Now Smogon is on a discussion on if Salemence should be uber or stay in OU. I think that's bullshit because Salemence isn't that hard to counter. Bah, I don't even see it quite as much as T-tar. (What is up with T-tar on every team!?)
