Wow, you've inspired me to do a tribute to the legendary Mr. Yokoi - check it out. I was fortunate to have met him back in '96 - just months before his untimely death :( Nintendo and the industry is alive and thriving today because of this man. Nintendo owes Gunpei Yokoi everything they have because he made Nintendo what it is today. He brought the Game and Watch series, Shigeru Miyamoto, Metroid, Kid Icarus, the GameBoy, and yes...the Virtual Boy. I cant believe Nintendo instantly fired him once the Virtual Boy failed. He did so much and he got the boot. Nintendo owes him too much for them to do that to him. Rest in Peace Gunpei Yokoi.

technically, he wasn't really "fired", he was just given a "window seat" where he sat at a secluded desk and worked on very trivial stuff that would have no impact on the company. Then he quit and made the WonderSwan.

he MADE what nintendo is today. the creation of the gameboy only inspired the very sparks of the game industry worth billions.
