I love Mussorgski's music, from his beatiful "Pictures from an Exhibition" to his magnificent "Boris Godunov"... for me the next will be "Khovanshchina"
Until today, I ve only seen italian and french operas, and thought I liked them, I ve never felt such great interest for an opera as I just felt watching the whole Mussorgsky's Boris Godonov.
Great music, great voices, great acting! I declare myself a fan of russian operas from now on! I'll search for more :)
I would suggest you to start with "Evgeniy Onegon" by Tchaikovsky (more "western Russian" style compering to Musorgsky Operas). Then Look at "Khovanshchina" (Mussorgsky) - Heavy but great opera!
And some Rimsky Korsakov stuff (Tsar's bride, May night - you can first look at the Uverturas of the operas here on youtube, as a "trailer" :)
Грандиозно, давно не видел такого основательного подхода в Большом. Надеюсь, во всем виноват ремонт - на новой сцене им сейчас явно тесно. Очень гармоничная опера, музыка Мусоргского гениальна и при этом понятна в действии оперы.
It just finished and now I already want to watch it again from the start! фантастический!!

I am doing this opera right now in Copenhagen, Denmark! In our performance it is in 2018! It is a great twist!
