Fun film! Amazing how they integrated Fatty & Mabel in the expo letting them go loose while showing the fair. Loved the Hawaiian girls have fun almost smiling as Roscoe does his stuff. Plus Roscoe's wife at the time is playing the lady he is flirting with, Minta Durfee And yes, that's a Chaplin impersonator(bit tall). Too bad about Arbuckle when that scandal hit.....but he did make a comeback before his death...YAY!!!
Please excuse my ignorance, but I've seen maybe two silent movies in my life, and I'm completely confused. If it wasn't for the titles, I'd have NO idea what was going on except for a bunch of people running around, slapping each other, and falling down. Are people who watch these able to read lips or what? I can't even tell the characters apart except for the fat guy and the guy with the moustache. O_o
Fatty & especially Mabel were brilliant. Mabel is an unsung genius of early film comedy. I read that Mack Sennett just cut them loose at the Exposition and they improv'ed most of this in the midst of actual exhibits & customers. Brilliant! Thanks for posting! Rock on, Mabel!
If it didn't have the words "San Diego" in the title, you'd never know whether or not it was in San Diego. Balboa Park, which was built for the exposition is never seen. You can see more of it in the beginning of Citizen Cane. I mean, this is a nice little Fatty Arbuckle short, but I was drawn to it because of my home town, which I didn't get to see any of in this. Yes, the fountain is the same one.

I like the appearance of a Chaplin-like tramp character near the end. Presumably just an in-joke, not Chaplin himself making a cameo?

Say
Chris...
You've done a splendid job at assmbling this mighty fine laugh fest from days gone by...when pictures moved at lightning speed.
Love Fatty and Mabel as they ride 'round the city...and those priceless crowd scenes are alone worth the price of admission.
Many thanks for sharing this showcase from days gone by.
Tit For Tat,
Max
