A great tune from a lost time that I miss greatly. Music was fun and enjoyable, whilst being serious and meaningful. You cannot imagine the vibe this created. It spent 6 weeks at No. 1 on the UK Pop charts if I remember correctly? That was unheard of for soul \ dance record back then. That will tell you how big this was. I can honestly say I thank God for being around when this came out. A great post of a monster classic that deserves more air play than it gets now.
@georgeman2468 Hi- thanks for comment!! yep I recall actually hearing it for the first time standing learing at a lovely blonde girl (sloane ranger) as they were called back then in Fulham. Where did all those classy girls go?? now we we get is the chav WAG style types with more war piant on their faces then on sale the the clinique counter!
@pennypacker93 You are correct in saying where did the classy girls go. I used to live in cheshire and at weekends the local bars and clubs were full of classy looking girls wearing nice clothes, but thats what the 80s was like. It was a very stylish decade, and I even remember the men all wore a shirt and tie on a night out, even us young ones. Now its all jeans and t shirts and yobbish loud behaviour.
My Older cousins had a Pop lockin contest Christmas of 86'. They bout wore out the vinyl and tape out. This plus D-Train's "your're the one for me" we the two fav'd jamz. Big ups to West Chester, Pa
its too bad dickheads like wiz kalifa ruined this joint. his stupid ass wasnt even born when this song came out....figures jus another rapper pretending to be ol skool. thats why music has gone down in the dumps, big ups to the ol skool home of originality.
I cry myself to sleep at night when I think of the 80's and 90's. It's a shame what has happened to music today. I can't understand it. Who made a left, instead of a right? Who went up, instead of down? Who said, yes we're gonna put this bullshit out, instead of, NO I'M NOT PUTTING THIS SHIT OUT... WHAT THE FUCK?... SECURITY!!!.......... sorry for cursing.
Hearing songs like this just makes me wish that I had a time machine so that I could go back in time, go to the dance clubs and re-live the good old days and forget about the shit that's happening in the here and now!
Just such a smooooth track..real grove to it...I can even recall the exact spot I was standing back in 1985 when I first heard it! (I am the so called lost generation of the 80s - brixton riots- 3 million unemplyed) thanks Maggie for sorting out the labour shit up.
I always thought this song represented another step in the evolution of funk; the beat hits so hard but there is that jazzy interlude at 2:48-brilliant!
Even from 1985 this still in a strange way sounds upfront today. A measure of the production values and quality of this kind of music is its longevity, freshness and instant appeal.
@SUPERSILVERH8ORADE No chance at all. Roger Linn (and the folks at Akai) released the very first Akai mpc60 in 1988. This song was recorded about 3 years earlier.
Was in my late teens during the mid 80's and it's like everything, you don't really appreciate the music of the era until years later. Wiked tune, brings back loads of good memories. Long live the 80's. Thanks for posting.
Posers get of her talking about Wiz ..so what if he remade it.. This is the classic so you won't find that here. Sick of hearing ______ brought me here. No the orginal brought you here get it right.
This music was busting with soul. The beat, the variety of the sounds within the song added an aire of mystic and truly set it apart from other recordings during that era.
i remember always lovin this jam I just never heard of loose ends I thought Midnite Star or Atlantic star made it . After a couple of years i found out the groups name there other songs are alright but this one really jams.
Now see this what i am talking about this is music. I was a Junior in HS. But i was very mature for my age. So i hung out with the grown folks smoking, playing cards and cocktailing. We use to play this song all the time. When we got ready to hit the clubs. WOW!!! WHAT MEMORIES.....
I listened to this song for the longest time and never experienced waiting around for a boyfriend... 'til now. Now if some man expects me to wait while he sorts himself out, he's getting the boot. Other than my drama, this is one of my fav songs of all time :)
yeah, yeah, YEAHHHH...We used to bump this back in the day !!! i was young, energetic, fly, not a care in the world....then reality set in....still fly though
Look How Long turned out to be the final studio album released under the Loose Ends name, and featured their final hit single, "Don't Be A Fool" (1990). McIntosh himself went on to work behind the recording desk following the group's peak popularity, but the new trio soon disbanded. He has since produced several artists' work, most notably that of Caron Wheeler and Ruth Joy.
Baddest Soul R&B beat ever! Puts me in a spiritual high!! I'm 40 and I remember this from my Freshman year in high school. Will Smith (Fresh Price) love this groove too!
I love 80's music. I grew up listening to this song my Aunts and Uncles used to jam to this back in the day and still do. I hear this on the old school station also.
