Absolutely correct. It takes time to develop your voice and playing. You are doing just fine. BTW, that guy does not know what he is talking about.  The guitar is perfectly in tune and people do not normally use tuners to help themselves sing on pitch. Keep on doing what you love and you will improve naturally. Good job!
