  • you shuld put more in the tank, let them live alittle and have a nice home

  • Most of them don't like to be handled, but they seem to like having staring contests. I've always found them to be a very highly specialized, fun to watch insect. I kept one as a pet & called her Charlotte. We introduced a boyfriend to her & you can guess what happened soon after their "relations".

  • ahh... i had one once... for 2 days theyre really awesome

  • i have a giant asian praying mantis (the ones without wings but have tails) and hes fine withe me holding him he sort of walks around my hands and stuff :D

  • my mantis was tiny bit smaller than thst and always rubbed up to me

  • Very nice! I found a big one like yours that a janitor at McDonalds was about to squash. I took him home. Later when I tried to pick him up he pinched or bit me. Didn't hurt. But he got my respect. I ended up taking him outside and letting him/her go. He was awsome!

  • scyther

  • Have you ever bred her before?

  • so damn cute. :)

and didn't give you an aggressive posture at all.

i like how it just dangled there when you picked it up.

  • Err I Hate These Mayn, I Do Have A Lady Bird Sitting On My Keyboard And Hes My Smoke Buddy Lol :)

  • That could be a female after it ate the male, mad prego.

  • Hey don't grab it like that, just let it walk on your hand!

  • I love these animals. Captive bred are generally tame with their owners in the UK. Shame they only live about a year.

  • I just saw one on my door in maryland. they're so CUTE the way they turn their head to look at u lol!

  • LOL when the mantis looks at him like DUDE WTF?!?!

  • Is that the best way to handle them if you have to pick them up? They don't seem to be scared of people.

  • @rodrigo98802, the cricket might be too small for it.

  • my pray mantis is not eating i gave him kriket and didnt eat it and he is small

  • Mantis : Dude stop doing that!! i am not gay dont u hold me like this.

  • Nice mantis you had there :) i have one too...

  • Cute

  • Im pretty sure this guy is straight up fucking retarded. Read the description, he uses grammar worse than a 3rd grader.

  • The mantis are the best animals of world.

  • Cutie!

  • She is in very poor health. She died when I writes you. :x

  • Ur so cute mantis

  • So what if it bites or claws you, it's not venomous or dangerous. A house cat's bite/claw would be more painful/dangerous you pussies.

  • Tenho pavor desse bicho! Morro de medo! =/ Mais acho ele muito interessante. Tenho respeito por insetos e não mato.

  • That was the shittiest habitat created for mantis ever. No wonder it dipped immediately.

  • poor little creature..so tiny and delicate

  • love so much mantis !

  • mantids are 1 of the more inteligant insects, mine just love wonderin bout my livin room, even while im watchin a film it seem to watch the tv with me,it no when iv gettin its food it also nibbel at my face and arms seems like it grooming me the only bad thing about it is it only got 7 months to live as had her 7 months, mantids are wonders of the world

  • That Mantis is big as hell, I have one too, but not that big!!!

Mine allways bite and strike me, they are not tottaly safe, my Mantis started to eat my finger and I bleeded, that hurted like hell, it left spikes inside my finger!!!

You Mantis is quite calm, you would see mine... eats everything small or big!!!

  • oh..i think it depends on the kinds =) maybe yours one more aggressive.. lol, and wild enough =)

  • @henrikossauros20

Yours was probably a male. This is a female, which are far less aggressive.

  • will they bite or claw you?

  • won't.. as i've get used to it.. unless you saw them alive out in somewhere, perhaps they may attack in defence.. for those around my house, they won't attack me.. nor do they bite..

  • @AutomatikSynthetik

All the ones I've encountered outside were really cool with me. Put my hand out in front and they walk right on and hang out with you haha

  • i have a praying mantis to... her name is huntress, (meening female hunter) and do they like being picked up like that?

  • definitely not.. i don't dare to let it climb onto my hand so i did tat.. that's totally wrong.. they don't like being hold tat way.. so just place your hand in front of them and they will climb on you naturally..

  • u shouldnt hold ur mantis like that only let it climb on u then take it to where u wanna take it

  • that is so cute.

  • are these insects dangerous?

  • totally safe..

  • @xXxMOONSPELLxXx Yeah they don't attack people. and if they bit you it probably wont break skin. Theyre great pets!

  • The claws don't hurt at all but grip well.A shield mantis' once grabbed my finger and started eating,it did hurt a little but I flicked it off.I've had dozens and that's the only time its happened.Normally they don't really seem to consider humans as anything more than an object to sit on.

  • @xXxMOONSPELLxXx Totally safe to humans. If anything, they will scratch you a bit, but nothing serious. Actually they are very intelligent (similar to dogs.) In fact, (based on what Ive seen) they will adapt to you. I read that they can memorize your face/voice (again, similar to dogs.)

  • Having kept them for years I can guarantee you they don't recognise your face or voice. They can appear to look you in the eye but really their just responding to movement such as a blink as it resembles the movement of an insect and their always on the look out for prey.To give you an idea I saw one eating an ant once while other ants swarmed over it.It kept eating even though the ants were killing it.Not bright.I'd say they don't even know their sitting on a person and see us as mere objects.

  • @xXxMOONSPELLxXx i hav 2 i male 1 female the male tends 2 fly everywere and fly on u so fast that yull get scared i recommend a female mantis its dosent fly often and issent so crazy if you feed it a lot of food its belly will get bigger and it will lay a egg sac or it will sqeeze jucie oou of its tale and no there not posionest if it bites you and they dont really bite at all

  • 0:34 he's like WTF dude?

  • lol!

  • my stupid cosin killed my brown praying mantis it was my fav he killed it when he was hanging on the bototm othe the top he opened it than closed it on my brown praying manits smush his neak and tale green juice cam out of his tale and he was jst a baby!!!!!!!!!!

  • @THEMAREBEARFUL T_T

  • That was so cute how she was looking up at you as you took her out. She kept reaching out for you a little, like she wanted to climb up on you. They're such sweet bugs~

  • mantis: wheres my money

    you:...

  • Cant beleive u released her they cant survive witout some kind of heat sourse

  • how is mantis cute!!!!!!...they creep me out!!!

  • The reason she was getting weaker is because she didn't have the right set up or food (judging by your description). Mantises need lots of foliage and sticks to climb on. House flies would not be big enough prey for her, large crickets would have been much better. Also, too much handling would stress her out.

  • thanks for the explanation.. I agreed with you!!

  • @Trophy92 caught a green one today.

  • I noticed she was an adult and had a few bits of damage. They only live a few months once full grown so she may just be reaching the natural end of her life. They go sluggish and then drop off their perch.

  • Its like oh shit where im I going, oh o oh..oh what a lovely tree this is lol!!!!

  • love how she dosn't care you pick her up lol

  • lolz its looking at the camera ^.^

  • haha..yes I think so ^^

  • These are such great pets, if you handle them regulary for about 2-3 weeks, they will be fine with you. Mine has never bit me with the 7 months i've had her :)

  • yep you're right, they could be a very good companion or friend to us..

  • LOL BLACK PEOPLE

  • i dont like to hold the abdomen coz it seem yucky and i am not very gentle so i hold the neck GENTLY

  • yeah it's actually wrong way, I should handle it instead..

  • looks like its ready to lay egg sacs. after the final egg sac, it'll become very disoriented and die.

  • Ahh... mantids are my favorite bug. I think they're the cutest and generally easiest to get along with.

  • Comment removed

  • didn't you saw on my video ? I'm releasing it..

  • actually by keeping it captive you are helping it live longer. in the wild it could starve, freeze, be eaten etc...

the wild is a dangerous place indeed

  • im taking my praying mantis with glows cuz hes bitting :/

  • Great footage. Love the it looks while your holding and transporting it.

  • yep :)

  • When you picked it up, did you sqeeze it to hard or just gently?

  • very very gently... more gentle than you holding a pencil.. off course i won't squeeze it.

  • Ok good because it could have harmed him, When I want to hold my mantis, either he crawls onto my hand on his own free will or I guess I wont be holding him, I would never force him by picking him up.

  • yea.. i think only holding its abdomen hardly, they will felt painful so they crawl you to give warning to you :)

  • Mantises are hard to keep as pets, but they are absolutely adorable. They are common where I live too and are absolutely the friendliest and most playful insects ever!

  • oh, ya we can treat it as our friend, they're sometimes seems like human , like when they're eating, you can go take a look at my another mantis video, it's better than this one

  • I used to have an Orchid Mantis. Those things are absolutely beautiful. They vary of color but mostly white and look like a part of a flower.

  • Come on dude what the fuck!?

You shouldnt have taken it from the wild in the first place and you REALLY shouldnt have kept it in such a shitty tank. I saw like 4 leaves and that was it? No wonder it got weak,it was probably intent on dying rather than carrying on in such shit conditions.

  • so what ? I know you're pro don't show off in front of here and keep your shitty mouth shut

  • Hahahahahaha

Did you think to say that all by yourself? How witty. Saying that i wouldnt expect anything less from a fucktard like you.

    Seeeeeee ya.

  • you were right .. I'm guilty , ok ?? I confessed all these .. and after that, i never keep any mantis, and actually, this was very old video, i have a new mantis after that and kept in very good condition with a huge bunch of flowers.. so in this video, i am the 1st time to kept it, and be inform that, it was not being caught by me, my friend caught it and put into a container same size of him, so i'm not the one who make him weak, after that my friend give it to me

  • Wow, i'm surprised they let you out of kindergarten...your so hillarious I forgot to laugh...

  • stfu

  • wow, I didn't even know a mantis could be held that way, I tend to kinda brush them onto my hand, seems to go down well with the mantis, but your one looks happy enough

  • yes, that was definitely wrong handling method, you should look at my antoher new video

  • funny it seems its looking at the camera :>

  • yes..very cute..:)

  • How sadly, why don't you keep it longer?

  • just because it's too weak and seems like going to die, so i sent them back to their nature

  • I think this was the right decision, it did not lose its sense of hunting and stuff ?

Btw, i'd like to know more about having a mantis at home (after getting to know them more of course) but is it expensive ?

  • just try to find it alive in forest or jungle

  • i live in a desert area and they're everywhere, i like them because they eat those mother fucker spiders and crickets(noisy bastards)

    lol

  • It is natural to be sick because you cauch it from his nature enviromend,i heard that in your country sell those beauties in pet stores are this true?

  • what do you mean by beauties? you mean Praying Mantises or the beauties that refer to a beautiful girl ? For Mantises, off coz you can buy it through some online store, but i haven't tried before

  • that is sooo big.. what species is that?

  • lol, i don't think so, maybe you haven't seen mantis before those can be bigger than mine 2 times..

    it is a Chinese Mantis

  • thanks man.. i have a giant asian mantis, and i dont know what species is bigger.. chinese mantis or giant asian mantis?

  • there is many large mantis, among the world, i think African Mantis is the largest, but the asian and chinese mantis is almost the same, in here Malaysia tropical forest, there's also some as large as hand, the one i catch wasn't very large, but i don't know how large is yours, can you take a video and upload then let me know ?

  • blah, i got myself a chinese praying amntis ootheca wich hatched in 4 weeks under a 40Wat bulb, they see theyr cage as theyr home as that was were they were born. theyr geting so big.

  • nice one

  • guys do they send them in greece? i cant buy anything from this fckin country...

  • go to the tropical rainforest / grass / plants to find one.. or maybe mantis doesn't exist in greece ? who knows?

  • Don't pick it up like that just let it crawl on your hand if it doesn't just tap it on the back and it will.

  • I don't know in that time, but i knew it lately

  • Just buy her some crickets, she will learn to take them from your hand if you wave it around a little so it looks alive.

  • I released it, anyway i got one yesterday and it looks mroe active and younger, it has very nice Combo to those insects..

  • dont catch em from nature, buy the praying mantis kit!it comes with a big habitat , instroctions and order info on how to get your praying mantis eggs. Search no google praying mantis kit, you almost find out many sites that seld em.

  • I think mantis is most beautful killer in the world.

  • i had a mantis at my house once

  • sooooooo cute

  • Yeah But Anyway PMantis is my Favorite Pet!

Maybe They Look To You like a Human

  • yes, they're just like a human, you keep it just as your friends, but one thing i'm worrying to get a mantis is, i'm afraid some of them are believed to be reincarnation :(

  • reincarnation.... lmao.

  • hahaha, thats cool, especially the leg shaking at 0:36

  • ah yes, she's a bit weak, because before my friend sent it to me, it has been kept in a very small container same size of it :(

  • yeah You've got a heart!

    i thing she is pregnant..

ps. their claws are are harmless for humans, mantis are so good, just be kind to them

  • yes, they're good, but heard of the other kind is more fierce than these kind

  • i think that was a big girl... very cool animal... glad you let her go and got video of her !

  • hehe.. thanks

  • honoustly i have no experiance at all with praying mantis but i don't think you should pick it up like that :S

    cool mantis tough

  • yes, i have the right way handling after that, just let them climbing onto my hands, and you're right, before that i'm not sure i'm afraid of its claw. Now it's ok
