  • Best flight simulator game ever.

  • Alpha 1, mission critical craft under attack shields down hull condition critical...

  • @BenUK1981 Alpha 1, mission critical craft: destroyed, abort mission: mission failed

  • 2:30 If Imperial pilots were that good in the movies, the rebels would have been screwed.

  • @X4PP3D Actually, it's more that the rebels weren't actually taken seriously up until Endor, in fact, even then. The main reason Endor happened was the emperor had finally managed to literally subjugate most of the galaxy at that point, with only the remnants of Zaarins forces left over. It's telling that the Thrawn, literally THE BEST grand admiral, was sent to deal with Zaarin instead of taken to Endor to deal with the rebels.

  • @Orumon27

Yes, I've heard some things about Thrawn. He was a dangerous opponent, an adept fleet commander. He'd have given the rebels something to worry about.

  • @X4PP3D You actually get to see Thrawn up against an almost equal opponent on the strategic front in this game, and it's epic.

  • the original dos version is better.

  • when i see a game like this compare to modern starwars games.... i cry for come back in the past...

  • Between Tie fighter and the original Dark forces was the pinnacle of Starwars gaming and coolness. Before the dark times, before.......the prequels

  • I don't know what's the likelyhood of this, but can you picture this games remade for modern platforms? Rrrrrrawk.

  • That's a nice scene at 1:44...

  • when I used to play this game, I'd finish the mission, and then turn around and shoot all my fellow tie fighter yelling "I'm a rebel now! I'm a rebel now!"

  • Good God. They need to re make this for PC, PS3 and the 360.

  • @Prodigy188 Indeed they do. Same story, same campaigns - just new graphics and sound. It would be magnificent.

  • @Prodigy188 you cant play a space combat simulation on a console bro

  • X-Wing alliance is the last Simulator style from lucas arts. But i wait a TIE Fighter 2... sad...:(

In the collectors edition i miss the action music from the dos version!

  • X-Wing alliance is the last Simulator style from lucas arts. But i wait a TIE Fighter 2... sad...:(

  • It isnt the same anymore.Old movies, old games, they caught the essence of Star War.Now it is all so...generic,to kid like.Star Wars is the best, always will be,I just wish that Lucas didn't mess so much of it up.

It kinda got me started writing, drawing and building my own models for my own idea of a sci/fi universe.Lotsa work, but alot of fun. With that said...I think I am gonna plug in my old win 98 computer and start playing;)

  • I always preferred using mouse when flying.More sturdy, less jumpy.

  • If we just based the best genre on how many people play that genre, PC Retro gaming (pre 2000) would be the largest genre in PC gaming by a long long way!

  • These games ARE the BEST star wars games ever... Imagine something like this with today's graphics... AWESOME. but of course lucas arts would probably f them up as they did with TFU games...

  • If Lucasarts can make GOOD remakes of Monkey Islands 1 and 2 then surely they can make an epic remake of this. TIE Fighter has to be one of the best games ever made. Period.

  • Man, nothing beats that music at 2:30

  • This game, and other Lucas X Wing games of the era, are all over Amazon and EBay. I built the computer I am typing this message on *specifically* to run these older games. WinME, AthlonXP 3200+, GeForce 6800 AGP, 1GB RAM (yes, edit your config.sys and it runs just fine with Win9x), Sound Blaster Live!, and a 40GB 7200RPM UDMA133 HD. It also dual boots Ubuntu 9.10, but I can play old OLD games like Star general and Wake of The Ravager too. All parts came from EBay lol!

  • @gulskjegg i have a system like yours i have moved to xp but use dosbox for my extensive collection of dos games but have problems ie joystick ref privateer1 sound i have no prob,s i do have a older setup for native dos/win95 awe32 sound, videologic et6000 this is were the retro fun is forget dosbox be real!! lol.

  • I like how this game made the empire seem like they just wanted peace and the rebels were violent terrorists

  • @MogensRS

well from the POV of the Empire THEY ARE VIOLENT TERRORISTS!!

  • @MogensRS Technically speaking they are. The Empire is a lawful government, despite what the Rebellion says, and they are a terrorist insurgent faction that seeks to overthrow a lawful government.

  • @MasterTalon that's right, even though the Emperor used the Force to manipulate his way into his ascension.

  • had the game but NEVER could get it to work on our 95! =(

  • I always liked being the bad guy better, what made this game so great

  • You're not getting in-flight music. Nor can I. Anyone knows how to get the music work for this version (win95)??. Under Dosbox, Tie 94 works fine...

  • @Loxo82

I know this is late, but in the Win95 version I think you need to use the lowest drive number possible for your disc for the music to play, not sure why. I have 2 physical disc drives on my computer and a virtual disc drive and when I had it in the second disc drive (higher letter), it wouldn't play the music. I went into control panel and reassigned the drive letters so disc had the lowest letter after my hard-drives and it worked great. You can find out how on Google.

  • man this game is awesome, I remember firing at star destroyers "bad idea".

  • I remember taking down the final mission's enemy Star Destroyer to 1% hull before it wimped out and ran off into hyperspace. :D Ion Cannons FTW!

  • i've played many games since playing TIE fighter in middle school (~8 years ago)...and i still find it hard to find better games. man i miss it.

  • I love the emperor's voice in this game.

  • Lol, when you got a Steam message, I thought I got one! XD

  • i wish i could find a copy nad get it to play on a modern machine

  • You can play it with DOSBox.

  • Amazing game. I came from a background of a lot of Tie Fighter, Xvt, and XWA

  • The game is oddly laggy and there is no music in this clip. A shame.

  • Watching this truly saddens me... because it reminds us all of just how far LucasArts has fallen.

  • @Significantpower How far PC gaming has fallen you mean!

  • @Significantpower I know man, isn't it sad? May the lords of Kobol (BSG Ref) watch over the next gen of star wars fans. Seriously. From golden material to the Clone Wars...

  • @NSAThrace Don't forget rushed games like KotOR 2 and TFU 2, poorly done novels that wreck continuity (Traviss and Denning for the most part, especially the latter), and Lucas coming up with increasingly stupid decrees and retcons.

  • @Significantpower i actually have to agree. they just can't make great games anymore. the classics will never die. i have dosbox but find it's controls difficult.

  • This most certainly brings back memories very very fond memories. :)

  • One of the best games ever made, and perhaps the greatest license game ever made.

  • What's a license game?

  • A game that has a story, title, character etc from another medium. So Star Wars games, Bond games, Lord of the Rings, these are license games.

  • I liked this game very much,it was challenging.
