My display shows also stupid 1st row of full characters till windows boot and control app send first data. How is it possible that you have blinking cursor ??
That was demo concise. I liked the way you set up the demo with the switches & leds for good visualization. It would be cool to follow up with the schematic and PIC source to detail things like timing. Ie: Strobing the 'E' line etc...
the pic is necesary? or can i use any controler? like a binary counter...

This full row of charaters is the LCD before it has been initallised.
And I have a blinking cursor because i told it t blink (with the appropriate command)
Note: This is not connected to my computer.
I am using a PIC Chip to send individual commands to the LCD.
