@ocossa Thank you "Ocossa". These are actually "soft pastels" though. And I love working with them. They are my favorite medium. :) Blessings!!! susan
There is never a silly question Ocossa as far as I'm concerned. I have learned all I know from asking lots of "silly" questions. Pastels are a dry medium. That is one of the reasons I started working with them. My life was so crazy as a mom and always being pulled in so many directions that I found they were always there waiting for me to work with and wouldn't dry up. I have some more info on pastels on my website if you want to check it out susanjenkinsart.weebly.com
@susanjenkins777 I will definitely give them a try, I have just taken up the brush as in the last three months. The last time I painted was about fourteen. However I don't want to limit myself to just one medium and I will check your website later today as it is almost one in the morning. Thank you for explaining it to me
@susanjenkins777 Thank you Susan for the information, I tried with oil pastels just the other day, and did I make a mess. I found the oil pastels so unforgiving, once the mistake was made everything just went pear shaped, I will look at the other pastels that you use and I think I'll take it a little easier next time
@ocossa Oil pastels are messier I think than soft pastels. But if you try soft pastels try them on "sanded" paper. There are special papers for pastels that allows you to get a lot of layers without the colors getting muddy. I took up art again after a long break of many years. Like you I was artistic as a child, but it was just in the past 9 yrs or so that I took up painting. I learned almost all I know from other artists on a site called wetcanvas. You might like it! :) Blessings!
Absolutely gorgeous.~ Though, it quite reminds me of the view in the turret room at Ballygally Castle. Perhaps it was more like this when Isobel was living in there.
Beautiful use of colour Susan, and a very clever way to show the development of the picture! Must have taken a while but definitely worth it. I'll have to give it a try :)
This is lovely work. The stages are shown quite well. I wish you would have done a voice over as well, to tell us what paper you use, what sort of pastel, and how you apply the strokes of colour, and why you do all this in a specific order; if you do of course!
Thanks for the demo all the same. I picked up enough to help me paint sea and beachscapes.
Thanks so much ! I use a variety of soft pastels.... my favorites are Sennelier, Terry Ludwigs and Girault. The song in the video is Moonlight Sonata by Beethovan. :)
I have a question for you. Can I mix it with the simple oil painting technique? Can I draw with an oil pastel on an oil painted layer? I'm painting now, but I really want to finish it until christmas, maybe it can be a little bit faster. What do you think? thanks a lot for your reply!
Thanks for that nice comment.... and I don't have all the kinks worked out on the video slide show.... but I guess someone can get the general idea of the demo.
That´s a very nice painting. I like your colour choice. Would be nice, to see you, painting it.
And there´s a starnge thing happening in the video, cause after 1:05 the image stops, and the music dies at 1:21. Only at the end it shows the adress to your website. Between that, it´s black silence. Is that intended?
Hi Susan, just been to your website, your art is breathtakingly beautiful. I had no idea that there are so many colours. amazing

@susanjenkins777 I know this may seem like a silly question, however; here goes...Is there a drying time with this form of medium?
