coke how its made (the stuff in a forge)

I don't know why you got so many dislikes, this seems like the one EpicFantasy has and I'm looking to make my own forge- I was thinking about making some functional swords from my imagination aswell as some very nice armour for sword training with my friends.

@UpNorthLiving2011 what else would you like to see. i would do a real time video of the hole process but I do not know how to cut and splice vids that are long or just to modify them to where I can load them on here. cause the process take a while. if you would like I can write out each step exactly how to do it and what not. just get back to me tell me what you need.

Does anyone know what happens when you mix bronse and brass together?

@meatisdeliciouse i would guess that it would make a softer bronze that is more resistant to oxidation. cause all it would be is a mixture of copper, tin and zink. the tin and zink would make it less vulnerable to oxidation. well at least that is what those elements do for steal.

@nycpd75 haha yeah that is crazy for sure dude. but i think its more about them releasing the recipe they prolly got patent after patent on it try to find an off brand version of it then play with it to get coca cola

I hear ya. I am still in the just figuring out what forge design I want stage, Looking at fuel ideas too. Have you experimented with different types of coal as well? I was wondering about anthracite versus bituminous as far as cooking, forge heat, etc.

I would def. go with the anthracite it has less impurities to burn out of it so it is purer so you will have less smoke the bituminous has more impurities like tar and plus its softer so it will burn faster because it is less dens but yea if you have the money and a place to get it from go for the anthracite. when it comes to forge design I could send ya mine it is really nice cause I can use a electric blower instead of a hand crank and I can keep air flow consistant.

but really any coal will do just as long as you cook it well to make it coke. its just different coals will turn out with different amounts of coke because of the amounts of impurities in each different type. and if your just starting out don't worry about that yet just get some coal and play. learn to cook it well.

I need to start looking for a coal source. I am going to utilize gear crank blower. My only option for placement is not near houses adn other, so I don't have an electrical source anyway. I am probably going to find an old semi drum if I can for a starter forge. Id like to find something cast more rectangular to chamber/stage and modify for the coal/coke bed. I see a lot of welded forges, but haven't tried to figure out what the cooling on them is yet to prevent buckling, etc. Thanks.

try looking in the phone book or farmers market ask around for coal its every where lol. but yeah that is understandable gear cranks ar3e much better than bellows.(the other type non electric) but I highly recommend the bottom of a water heater. my forge is made of around 14 gauge not very thik because the heat from the forge travels up well if you your Tyree plate set right. and mine just sits on some bricks so you should have no worries.

yeah it would be better but it really doesn't madder well to a point. either one will allow you to smith the steel with no problem you just have to cook one more than the other

What advantage does 'cooking the coal' give over 'normal coal' if I may ask?

see burning the coal strait smokes one hell of a lot you can not work with it. I have tried it lol but yeah cooking it takes out all the impurities that makes it smoke to where it is just pure carbon that is why it looks like a sponge because the impurities are missing and that is why it is soo light when you hold it. it also burns a lot hotter as i have found but I could be wrong because I was not near it too long to tell cause of the smoke

when I worked with it for the first time i strait burned it I did not know any better but i remembered movies where I seen it not smoke so bad so i asked a guy I knew that knew a little about it that told me too cook it first
