I'm going to play DnD for the first time tomorrow, and I'm going to be DM (We don't know anyone who has played before). Listening to this video has really helped me by giving me an idea of what the narration sounds like.
Anyone got any idea how I could get or make a figure for my chaotic neutral werewolf assassin (this is a genuine character of mine and possibly my favorite xD)
Very nice roleplay this backmusic and the minions roleplay perfect play (sooo good interpratation i remember my time as player)...only you is talking do whit players a video to see this playng ....
As a relatively new DM I found your combat tactics videos most rewarding to watch! I hope to see more video shot in this respect! Sincerely Rob Allen.
I love DnD but IDK who would play with, I've gone as far as creating my own adventures (solo) but that takes away the fun, I've also did games where I played as everyone xD I've also played with my family yet they got bored and left... I've then move onto Warhammer 40k but I still have no one to battle. If only there was some one... :p
@xX13LoneWolf13Xx Try using Google Maps to find a nearby game/comic/hobby shop; ask someone who works there if they have Sunday (or just generally, weekend) events, where you can come and join a game (usually Warhammer/40k are played often). You may even get lucky and find a group to RP with! Don't be afraid to ask around, and don't think your going to be mocked (and even if you are -- fuck 'em, we can't all be mature enough to do something we enjoy despite the stigmas and weak-minded bias).
It is a bit depressing that D&D, as influnetial to gaming, video games and pop culture as it has become is heavily stigmatized by some in the mainstream. Which is a shame because this can be a very enjoyable social activity with the right players and dm/gm. I could probably make it appealing to non-nerds if I could gather the right people who are open minded enough to try it once or twice without it getting too nerdy or have it be an underwhelmingly boring experience.
I wish that DnD would be considered something cool in the modern day, all the people who brand DnD players as nerds are discouraging anyone from playing it, which may lead to DnD not existing anymore, which sucks. I wish i could play this game, but i don't know anyone who plays it or would play it. Video games can not compare to DnD, because with video games someone set out everything before you without considering your character, the closest video game to DnD right now is Dwarf Fortress for PC
@TheGeneralBurn My friend, I hear you, and I strive to bring the passion and enjoyment of fantasy gaming to everyone. But I don't know that things are quite as bad as you are referring to there. Mythology, legends, adventures, and heroes are all very much a part of human culture. People who fail to recognize this are just completely ignorant, thus, their opinion really doesn't matter.
Well Done, Again, I'd recommend ea. character having been 3ed level to have had a better chance of getting to keep the two main foes alive, or a 3rd 2nd lvl character...Just my $.02 cents worth..Enjoyed as always!!!!
I actually made my own rpg game based on DnD, mostly because i could never afford the real stuff, lol. it has 6 races, and 8 classes with a map. I've been working and playing as a dm for it for years, lol. it's a work in progress, but my favorite character would have to be my Elf druid (still level one :D)
I'm new to this game, and I have a question about shifting and oppertunity attacks. Could you explain what oppertunity attacks are and why would you use shifting?
players had too easy, they won without trouble, even though the fighter made mistake of advancing too far and got flanked (leaving magician on her own)
Could you please recommend me a type of race and class? I'm going to start playing tomorrow for the first time ever and it would be great if you reccomended me something.
@mistersmash23 That really is a question of personal preference- it depends upon what type of class role and archetype appeals to you. However, some classes are less complex, which might be good for newer players, such as the Ranger and the Fighter.
I like your videos. It's been a looong time since I played D&D in the early 80's. I haven't played 4e yet. Seems like PC's have a ton of powers even at low levels. Regardless, one question that comes to mind watching this very visual demo. Wouldn't Gergash [sp] be affected by Farali's [sp] spells ie. it looks like he'd be in the line of fire and get hit? Thanx!
Would you recommend taking a bunch of pieces of printer paper, numbered 1-50, turned upside down, and then you flip over the first one. As the players move to new rooms you flip over the next piece. It keeps a "fog of war" and is relatively cheap to do.
i liked the story behind this!! im just starting out also with my bro... and my bros friend that is living with us got us into the game but my bro wasnt here when we started so i played solo for a bit :P LVL1 Human Paladin
While this is a GREAT encounter story, I think using a system later than 2nd edition D&D doesn't do the game justice. 2nd edition (Advanced) Dungeons and Dragons is where its at. 2nd edition captures the essence of what D&D was supposed to be all about. It actually requires much thought and is usually driven by highly intelligent people and great readers. Later editions to the game has dummied down rules and such to where dullards of every kind plays. From a profit standpoint it makes sense.
@hanshideout I'm a fairly smart guy, but what is with all the arrogance? OMG dullards can have fun! How dare they! I remember playing a shadowrun game. It just wasn't fun because of all the rules. The rules were very good and very thorough, but just not fun. Maybe AD&D was fun, I've never played it.
I just don't understand why people want to play a game just so they can leave others out. D&D is probably the first table top game people pick up. Shouldn't it have a smaller difficulty curve?
@majinspy There are MANY RPG games for MANY different levels of intelligence. The AD&D game was designed for intelligent people, NOT dullards. Shadowrun was RETARDED! Fortunately, for the less intelligent or not as well learned in Fantasy RPG's, D&D 3.0 and up render better results.

Hey guys, I made quite a few miniatures a few weeks ago for my campaign. You cut them out and fold them in a triangle shape, then tape them to a coin for weight. You can download a rar of them here - h t t p :// bit (dot) ly/d o X Y c 1 (Sorry for the link... Damn youtube)
Thanks a lot man. Me and my friends are trying to learn this game... Nobody around here plays, so we're kinda on our own. I'm having trouble figuring out how things go outside of combat...
I like how into the game you are. The music is a nice touch. I literally just began playing D&D with my friend. She's played a few times. We're playing by "house rules" as she says. It's pretty fun.
@ViewtifulBeck In case she didn't tell you, house rules means that some part of your gameplay or characters are going to be in contradiction to the given rules in the books. Nothing wrong with that, but just letting you know, because it could be anything from major changes to something very inconsequential.
This is really cool how you did this. I started a game today and i am a eladrin, rogue. I have 19 stealth amd 14 thievery for my skills. But i have a question... How is Borgashe's AC 21 when at lvl 2? And how is a sorceress different from a wizard.
Sorcerers channel arcane magic which resides within their very blood, they are born with it. They are strikers, meaning they can deal massive damage, often to a single target.
Wizards learn arcane magic by study, apprenticeship, and memorizing arcane lore. They wield a wide variety of magic effects and are masters of rituals. They are controllers meaning they can debilitate multiple foes at once.
I really like how you do this little series. And i have a question about the adventure gear book. Does it have any spells that are used to summon monsters to aid you in battle?
really enjoy what your doing here nice maps and use of minis i currently play 2nd edition an evil group of character who include a fighter necromancer and priest........i was wondering what you thought it would take to become a lich my character is the necromancer and was wondering what i would have to go thru to become a Lich but cant find any resources for it.
i really want to play this but what should i say to friends? " hey guys wanna go roll dice and think about wiards?" it sounds fun but how should i get friends to play?
You are pretty good at this! Really like your way of describing what's going on.
This is the first time I see D&D in action, I think I want to give it a shot and start playing with some of my friends in some of the local clubs.
Where should I start? read the player handbook?, also, do I get to choose to play with 3e instead of 4e? I've heard a lot of bad reviews about 4e, but I'm new to all this so I wouldn't notice the differences.
@thefoulfiend Check out some of my other videos, such as How to Play D&D and Character Basics. Bad reviews on the internet? No way... >_> Just play what you like.
@repsesper I do. He was an elven child that was an orphan at a young age, not a baby but a young child so he can know basic elven [at least] and he waas raised by humans most his life. also, from what I read, elves know the language of animals it lives with or near.
@dinkymeatgogoness Yes you can. In fact, I've had some great sessions with just one player. Keep in mind, combat becomes much more dangerous, so be careful there. You might even consider running an npc along with the pc.
Thanks for this. It helped me in thoughts for doing DnD I've really wanted to get into it for a while as a DM and no one wanted to really. I have found a few other people to join me though.
That's cool you are coming back. I intend to make more like this, actually, check out my Island of Horns adventure, it has combat encounters in it similar to this.
I just use Washable Markers (usually Crayola), mainly because when I draw on my vinyl battle mat, I need washable markers to erase at the end of the night. They don't bleed through.
At the moment I'm convincing a bunch of guys to play with me, My first game is whenever I clean up and invite them, but I wrote some stories and got everyone quite wanting for the rest of the story, Most of it is just Narration and Character Acting or whatever one calls it, But the combat we have not tried, i've done solo combats like this for training, But thanks for all your help mate, Really helping me practice DM-ing!, also is it normal to play a NPC because were quite a small group. :D
I've ran NPCs when the group didn't have enough players. Lots of times, actually. Or sometimes, the group will meet an NPC who ends up traveling with them for awhile. I've also ran countless games with 1 to 3 players, which can be fun in its own way. Glad the videos have helped!
very awesome session! Thanks for the vid, I made it alive through my first D&D session (I now appreciate D&D more than Paladium) and your vids will help me get a nicer feel for what I can expect in the future, I wanna check all your vids cuz there are things in the player's guide I cant visualize.
Honestly, I typically come up with a theme and story for my character first, then see which race/class seems to fit best. That's just my usual style though.
However, the powers and mechanics of a race or class still matter to me. I especially enjoy the versatility of druids and wizards, as well as their lore.
My friends and I are going toplay 4th ed. We have never played DnD before. My one friend is reading the entire DM guide and I have almost finished the PHB but do we actually need minis?
Technically, you don't have to use minis. I would recommend using at least some sort of visual reference as to track where the characters and monsters are located during combat.
Actually, I have played without visual references many times, and I liked it quite a bit (keep in mind that I have a vivid imagination). Combat is less tactical and detailed, but it allows for more storytelling.
I play DnD with my friend we don't use pen and paper, we use a computer, dice, and them books. He'd be a narrator and I'd play through, he makes the maps/ dungeons with paint. Our character sheet is microsoft exel. But ya, we don't use the tiles and stuff.
This video is awesome. It showcases what D&D combat should be like, fast, immersive, and no extra off topic nonsense to distract from gameplay. Well done, One encounter in only 20 minutes, I would feel deeply priviledged to have you as my DM. 5/5 stars.
also, I read earlier that this seemed to slow, but if that person knew about D&D he would know that this was actually the PERFECT pace lol. Not too slow, and not so fast as to forget rules.
I've been a fan of the idea of this game for a long time, though haven't yet been able to play much. A few friends and I did get together and have a small game, but I am hoping to get a bit more into it. I also plan on getting the three main books so that I can put together my own adventure. In addition to all that, great work on the videos. I actually wish there was more to watch. If you didn't plan on continuing, you should think about it; and just in case, I am going to subscribe.
Yeah, that would be great. And also, any other adventures/encounters you would like to share. As others have said, you have a great show-voice, and you are very creative.
Hay can somebody teach me how to play DnD? i dont understand it...and im not a nerd :D

The DnD I play is much less complex than this
Cause my dungeon master doesn't have all the dice and such

Being an elf, does he automatically know elven?
And the cat is an elven cat, does she know elven as well?

is it possible to play a game of d&d by myself?
samuriazombie 1 year ago
Not really. You could try to run combat encounters by yourself...but I can't see that being very rewarding.
repsesper 1 year ago
Thanks for this. It helped me in thoughts for doing DnD I've really wanted to get into it for a while as a DM and no one wanted to really. I have found a few other people to join me though.

So many comments about starting up new groups is exciting, since I too am getting back into D&D after 16 years.
This is quite helpful, I must agree... I think I would even like to see a few more like this.
BTW: what type of markers do you use to avoid bleed through on that paper?
I'm looking at making a magnetic dry erase with the respective paints to avoid buying those chart pads.
Nice minis too, I'm thinking of just going with color prints, foam core & magnets.

They don't bleed through.

i really like your videos like this i have a d&d on face book call dungeons and dragons tiny adventures and i am a Drow Ranger

You can lay hands, cast bless weapon and attack all in the same round?
goardface 2 years ago
Lay on Hands = minor action
Bless Weapon = minor action
Attack = standard action
Well, he couldn't move, but he could do all that.

krutcheshobb 2 years ago
I've ran NPCs when the group didn't have enough players. Lots of times, actually. Or sometimes, the group will meet an NPC who ends up traveling with them for awhile. I've also ran countless games with 1 to 3 players, which can be fun in its own way. Glad the videos have helped!

very awesome session! Thanks for the vid, I made it alive through my first D&D session (I now appreciate D&D more than Paladium) and your vids will help me get a nicer feel for what I can expect in the future, I wanna check all your vids cuz there are things in the player's guide I cant visualize.

Cool, definitely subscribe and share the videos. I'm all about spreading the creativity and information.
repsesper 2 years ago
also I neglected to compliment your awesome art skills. I never thought u could draw the map like that.
Orbitdeathrants 2 years ago
Thanks, I've been drawing D&D maps for years, and I have to say I still love doing it. The main types I do are:
*World/kingdom Maps (shows geography, environments, towns, et.c.)
*Random Encounter Maps (such as "forest" or "badlands")
*Dungeon Maps

what is ur favorite character?
kevinburnsrules 2 years ago
Tough question. My favorite classes are druid, wizard, rogue, and monk, and I've had characters of each that I really liked.
repsesper 2 years ago
ok cool option for classes
kevinburnsrules 2 years ago
Honestly, I typically come up with a theme and story for my character first, then see which race/class seems to fit best. That's just my usual style though.
However, the powers and mechanics of a race or class still matter to me. I especially enjoy the versatility of druids and wizards, as well as their lore.

im starting to learn how to play dnd what books do you reccomend to start playing and learning the rules?
aziayman 2 years ago
Check out my video "How to Play Dungeons & Dragons".
A player needs the Player's Handbook, while a DM also needs the Dungeon Master's Guide and the Monster Manual.
repsesper 2 years ago
My friends and I are going toplay 4th ed. We have never played DnD before. My one friend is reading the entire DM guide and I have almost finished the PHB but do we actually need minis?
numba1netsfan 2 years ago
Technically, you don't have to use minis. I would recommend using at least some sort of visual reference as to track where the characters and monsters are located during combat.
repsesper 2 years ago
Have you ever played without any visual references?
Kikoman97 2 years ago
Actually, I have played without visual references many times, and I liked it quite a bit (keep in mind that I have a vivid imagination). Combat is less tactical and detailed, but it allows for more storytelling.
repsesper 2 years ago
I play DnD with my friend we don't use pen and paper, we use a computer, dice, and them books. He'd be a narrator and I'd play through, he makes the maps/ dungeons with paint. Our character sheet is microsoft exel. But ya, we don't use the tiles and stuff.

This video is awesome. It showcases what D&D combat should be like, fast, immersive, and no extra off topic nonsense to distract from gameplay. Well done, One encounter in only 20 minutes, I would feel deeply priviledged to have you as my DM. 5/5 stars.
bennyFS1 2 years ago
also, I read earlier that this seemed to slow, but if that person knew about D&D he would know that this was actually the PERFECT pace lol. Not too slow, and not so fast as to forget rules.
bennyFS1 2 years ago
I've been a fan of the idea of this game for a long time, though haven't yet been able to play much. A few friends and I did get together and have a small game, but I am hoping to get a bit more into it. I also plan on getting the three main books so that I can put together my own adventure. In addition to all that, great work on the videos. I actually wish there was more to watch. If you didn't plan on continuing, you should think about it; and just in case, I am going to subscribe.
Br0k3nHe4r7ed0ne 2 years ago
Thank you, and I wish you much luck in your gaming to come.
You mean to say, you would like to see what happens in the adventure after this encounter?
repsesper 2 years ago
Yeah, that would be great. And also, any other adventures/encounters you would like to share. As others have said, you have a great show-voice, and you are very creative.
