  • Madden is right in 1979, the opponents losses were caused by the Buccaneers. So, watch out NFC, here comes Tampa Bay!

  • Vikings blocked 4 kicks that day. With the last one being an extra point by 37 year old Wally Hilgenberg ( playing with a broken jaw) to preserve a 1 point victory.

  • Actually, Madden was more reserved here due to his fear of heights, according to Summerall. Summerall told a story about this game in an article I read some years ago: he said that he turned to Madden during halftime, and Madden had sweat pouring all over him. Summerall said, "maybe this isn't the business for you", but then Madden said that it was due to his fear of heights, not nervousness. As you can see from the intro, they're not in a traditional press box, they're right out in the open.

  • @kdawg2020 it's on a vid on YouTube somewhere of Summerall saying that too. Quite interesting if you ask me...

  • The Lions were 2-11. No way, I can't believe that!

  • @Mainsail76 They were not that great during the late 70's to the 80's. Green Bay was the same too back in the 70's and 80's. They Green Bay Fuckers are now happy that their fat ass are winning games and can finally stroke to their success with their right hand. Just like the Pittsburgh Squeeler fans who stroke to their success by jacking off wearing the Squeeler's golden yellow pants.

  • Strange, indeed, to see Madden so quiet and reserved! I guess he was still getting the hang of the broadcasting gig at that point.

  • I love the background music at the beginning.

  • they made the old madden games great

  • The guy was bumbling, BOOM, all that stuff...and behind it was a brilliant mind with an ability to make the game understandable to the guy at the bar who's already had two beers. It was like watching the game with your football-braniac uncle. Awesome.

  • ha ha ,,john madden indeed as stupid as Caliendo impersonates him

  • Tough acting tinactin

    Ace is the place

  • BOOM!!

  • didn't care about madden when he was around but now I kinda miss the old bumbling guy. Plus Collinsworth is a piece of crap.

  • @foch41 I certainly agree about Collinsworth!! He needs to go.

  • i always wonder what pat summerall is thinking, because every time he mentions working with john madden over the last few years he says that his first game with madden is a 1979 game with the bucs vs. giants, not vikings, guess his memory has gone a lil bit

  • Pat Summerall & John Madden are the best Football Broadcast duo of all time.

  • John Madden, the greatest football analyst of all time. This guy knew football in and out and was very credible. Television will miss your football insights!Thank you .
