so... this game is like a blend of the Mega Drive games. My theory is sonic was so drugged up in the early 90s this represents him recalling it the best he can. I think the Flying Battery Music is quite a good choice for the knuckles boss as neither of knuckles' 2 themes are actually intense enough for a boss late in the game

The gameplay one is sort of a mix of both (original body from classic, green eyes and longer quills on certain poses from modern).
It could also be a last minute change by the higher ups or something.

Sonic Advance 3(which is the best of the advance/rush games)'s boss didnt have this type of final boss. I guess thats what you meant by almost all of the Rdvance/Rush games
