I was spinning exotica/lounge/bossa nova music on college radio in 1987 and people siad it would never have a comeback...ha! I still dig this music and collect LPs of exotica. I find it amusing that the CD stores will sometimes have a 50 cent bargain bin which is where I often find mint LPs of Esquivel, Martin Denny, Korla Pandit and others. Those CD sellers have no appreciation for the good stuff. Thanks for posting this great video clip on YouTube!

I've always believed that Irwin Chusid is just a big "know-it-all" with very little of substance to say - basically he's the William Frawley of NY radio culture (a 3rd banana)
As for this "Cocktail Nation" stuff, this video is (like most 80s news videos) cringe-worthy. Cocktail music and culture was never good for anybody, either in the 50s or 80s
Exotica and lounge music is for people who enjoy fitting in and smoking French cigarettes and sleeping.
Thanks for posting this! This was one of the few things from the 90's that I actually enjoyed. All this lounge rediscovery brought this music from the background of my mind into the forfront of my forehead and have been digging it since! Thanks again!
Looks like our parents were right after all!

Yes, and how she proudly boasts that it now available at Tower records and sales are brisk. Tower is nearly history...
