I'll admit, RedState was definitely his lowest point but Clerks up to Clerks pretty much spanned a successful career in film. Also, his comic book writing is pretty awesome! He's written stories for Green Latern, Batman, Green Arrow, and plenty others.
The "fanboyism" is essential. It's paved his career in stone. He has an esoteric fanbase. His films aren't commerical bullshit and they're appreciated by true fans of comics and truthfully, there's nothing wrong with that.

No, Smith's films are a cut above. I've seen the first one back in middle school. They were okay then; now I'm sure they suck. I'm not exactly putting Kevin Smith in the same context as the greats, just trying to prove a point that it's all good humor. Whether Smith is on a lower level or above, they're all great.

The recurring characters are significant in his films. His films are episodic and rely on these characters.. Now, whatever you have against his need to put those specific characters in his films is silly.

He's all washed up, and yea, he had 1 decade of being able to use the same characters repeatedly in several low budget shit films. he did Red State, and no one went and saw it. I'll admit, RedState was definitely his lowest point but Clerks up to Clerks pretty much spanned a successful career in film. Also, his comic book writing is pretty awesome! He's written stories for Green Latern, Batman, Green Arrow, and plenty others.
The "fanboyism" is essential. It's paved his career in stone. He has an esoteric fanbase. His films aren't commerical bullshit and they're appreciated by true fans of comics and truthfully, there's nothing wrong with that.
