I donate, i volunteer, I worked my way through college, on $15 a WEEK for FOOD, and then, my first TWO years of a steady job I allowed myself $30 a week for food,.....

I worked for 30 years. I got parkinsons. Blue cross Blue shield drop me would not pay for anything.

I earned it as well as this man did.

I do use coupons with my food stamps/ I get $215.00 per month in food stamps and use coupons. I get around $350 per month in food.

I fill up to deep freezers ever year with veggies that I grown such as pease, butter beans corn, okra,

many middle class people are receiving food stamps now as well, especially in NYC with increasing rents and increasing prices for everything including public trasnportation, nothing wrong with receiving assistance if you need, of course there will always be people who take advantage, like trading in there food stamps for cash so they can buy drugs or whatever, but these programs do help out a lot for those who do need it and not take advantage

I work 20-25 hours per week at Wal-Mart, because that is the only job I could find. I am trying to make a better life for myself so I am attending a Community College, so that's all the hours I could work, and also Wal-Mart won't give me anymore. I applied for food stamps, and only received $22 a MONTH not $21 per week. After my rent/basic bills (Electric, Water) I have only a few dollars after my bi-weekly pay check. If I had $21/wk I would be "living like a king."

The problem is not how much money they get, the problem is how much they are spending on the food. I budget $20 per person per week and that pays for food, toiletries, cleaning supplies, and all other "basic necessities". I know how to shop smart. Anyone getting food stamps should be REQUIRED to attend a monthly class on shopping smart, no attendance = no food stamps. Don't like it? Don't spend taxpayers money... get your own.

@noahman1234 OMG I know! I worked at Wal-Mart for 2.5 years and saw people put back bananas and apples to buy that bag of chips they just had to have. It's insane! And one woman put back baby food to buy cigarettes. Though I must admit it is more costly to eat healthy and that's what is wrong with the world. If they made junk food more expensive than healthy food I think more people would eat healthy. :-)

Gas prices are getting right back up to $4 there are no jobs any where the price of food gas rent pge and if you are lucky enough to have things like cable will bakrupt any lower/middle income average american household. My husband works his ass off and the day the pay check gets here its GONE! We are living off of hamburger helper and canned food just to be able to afford to eat. TRY IT!....

What they do is they spend all of their food stamps and then they use their cash to get more food. They don't just use food stamps to get their food. They buy garbage. I see it around the 15th of each month every month when I go to Walmart. They round their carts over with garbage. Nobody wastes more food than these people.
