  • I'm happy it works for you.

    Thanks and kind regards,

    George

  • I have a 5 String Squier and i have just started watching your videos and they really help! But can you make a video with a 5 string please.

  • I have a Beginning 5-String Bass video on You Tube. It is an excerpt from my two 5-string bass videos available for purchase and download.

You will find the excerpt in my "23 videos" above.

    I hope this helps.

    George

  • I'm a Beginner so,Should I get a Fender Straight off the bat or A Yamaha ?

  • Depending on the bass models (and where they are manufactured) Fenders and Yamahas can be quite different. You should try before you buy. (I would go for a good Fender bass.)

    George

  • I'm gonna get my bass guitar soon, at first I'm gonna learn how to play the classic one,I can't wait to get bass!BDW, you got a beautifal face for an old man!

  • Surprise! ! Shocking guitar tutorial website: guu.nn.cx

  • im a beginner and i was wondering: should i be having some wrist/thumb muscle pain while playing and is it something ill get used to as i get stronger and play more? im a 16 year old male if that matters. i also have a problem of my pinkie on my fretting hand sticking straight out when im not using it. is that a problem or is it okay?

  • In the very beginning it is common to have some muscle/stretch pains. However, make sure your technique is good and suitable for long-term playing and practicing.

Try to keep your pinkie loose and arched. This may take some concentration, but it will help keep most of your hand loose.

If you want more guidance, please take a look at my step-by-step subscription course, available through my website.

    Kind regards,

    George

  • i love how you started this episode by explaining . it really helped thanks !

  • Hello and thanks for providing some of your background info.

There are heaps of free beginner bass lessons here on YT. However, none are really sequential and you may find it difficult to choose the right method for yourself.

I have a very affordable subscription-based step-by-step bass course. You can check it out via the link to my website in the Description box above.

Please don't hesitate to email if you have any queries.

    Kind regards,

    George

  • @BassLessonsOnline Thank you so much!

  • very nice lesson....i just built my pb so it is time to learn how to play it ....

  • Hello and thanks for your input. Congratulations and enjoy your pb!

    George

  • His voice and accent remind me of my uncle :D

  • Input socket? What are you trying to input there then?

  • The cable/cord/lead that goes from the bass to the amp.

    George

  • @BassLessonsOnline

"The cable/cord/lead that goes from the bass to the amp."

Yes, which is the input for the AMP, but not for the guitar. For the guitar, it's the OUTPUT. Clarity in terminology matters.

  • You have that "George Harrison" accent. <3

  • to play a song on the bass is it made up of chords or scales and such??

  • Most simply, the bass plays the root note of the chord. Then chord tones and other scale tones (and non scale tones) can be added.

    George

  • cool!..thanks george!

  • You're most welcome - thanks for posting your comment.

    George

  • I bought a bass two years ago because it was pretty and now I finally understand what I'm supposed to do with it thanks to your videos!

  • I'm glad I could clarify. The visual aspect is what attracts us (to a purchase) in the first place ... but then comes the work and the fun!

    George

  • This is great. I appreciate it.

  • keep it up man, this is uber helpful!

  • I will - thanks for your support!

    George

  • Dear George im considering trying to learn bass from instruction videos such as yours (haven't got the bass yet though) and am wondering weather to get a bass and see how it goes or try and learn to read music. is not being able to read music a real draw back and something to focus on before attempting to learn ?

  • Trying to read music before you learn the basics of an instrument (or even while you are learning the basics) may be more of a hindrance than an aid.

My Beginner series of Bass Lessons Online (via the link in the description box above) gets you into reading music slowly, step-by-step in manageable portions - always in conjunction with the practical lesson material.

To sum up, not being able to read music is a drawback in the long term but not in the beginning.

    I hope this helps :)

    George

  • OH!!! X( I CAN'T READ NOTES TT^^TT THAT'S MY PROB. i'm 12 lol and my fingers are small for my age.... I think

  • Hi George,

I"ve only watched this video and I'm hooked. I"ve got a couple of questions. For an absolute beginner what brand would you recommend buying bass wise and also too is there something I can get that allows me to practice without booming the whole buildling and getting thrown out by my sister who I live with lol.

    Cheers

  • I want to learn to play bass so badly but we can't afford actual lessons so I'm glad I found videos that are really helpful!!! Thanks

  • Excellent! Thanks in return.

    George

  • Very cool - I'm glad you are inspired :)

    George

  • Hello, I just wanted to know a few things about the bass guitar.

I am planning on buying one, but I don't know if it will be too loud for my neighbours, because I know that sometimes low frequency sounds make walls and windows vibrate and also are more audible than high frequencies through walls, so i guess my question is if there is any way to avoid making the walls vibrate? or something like that

  • There's an easy solution: play acoustically or use headphones or use low volume.

I use any one of these solutions at the appropriate times.

    George

  • hey thanx for these lessons! I just started playing my bass, and I'm loving it. You are awesome.

  • Excellent - thanks for your post!

    George

  • what are the names of the strings

  • Thick to thin (low to high in pitch): E A D G

    George

  • Is thre a diffrence between bass's for jazz and basses for rock? Because if there is i don't want to end up with a jazz bass :s im planning on buying one

  • Essentially there is no difference. Take the classic Fender Jazz Bass, for example; it is used all the time for rock. A good "rock bass" is the Fender Precision (such as the one in this video) or P Bass copies.

I suggest you go to a bass shop and get advice and demos.

    George

  • I have an Ibanez 5-string bass and its good, but when i see other peoples bass guitars their strings are more closer to the neck while mine is about a cm away. Their bass is more easier to play cause there's less stress to press on the string to get a note. is my guitar broken or was it made to be like that?? please someone answer

  • 1cm is definitely too far! It seems as though the truss rod of your bass needs adjusting (tightening). There are some good videos on You Tube on the topic of bass set-up.

    George

  • @BassLessonsOnline thanks so much!! Well i thought it was made like that since i got it as a gift. thanks so much.

  • I want to buy a bass for my 8 year old son, could you give me some clue, what is best to buy, in what price range, and where can I buy it, He is a beginner and does not know anything about music yet.

  • It may be best for your son to start on a short-scale bass, such as a Squier Bronco. I own one of these basses myself and think is provides excellent value.

    Kind regards,

    George

  • what bass should i buy? im a begginer and i dont really want to kill my wallet. and amp suggestion?

  • Squier basses offer good value, often with amp packages. Get as many watts as you can afford for your amp. I will not suggest any amp brands because I don't know what is available in your area.

    Keep your wallet alive :)

    George

  • Glad I found your videos. I'm buying a Squire P-Bass soon.

  • Excellent - I think the Squier P is a good choice.

    Kind regards,

    George

  • Thank you. I think Squire is a good choice.

    George

  • Thanks! You're a great bassplayer and a very good teacher!

  • Thank you for your kind comment.

    George

  • my fender replica custom 4 string p bass kinda has a snare between the 4th and 5th fret every time i hit the top 2 strings. any advice to how to remedy this problem?

  • There could be a couple of causes for this. The most likely is that your bass has a raised or loose fret wire at the 5th or 6th fret. Get someone knowledgeable to take a look.

    Bass of Luck!

    George

  • Hi everyone i got an 15 amp that came with my guitar (beringher) can i use it to play with my bass? Or it will damage the amp?

  • If you proceed with caution, you and the amp will be fine.

    George

  • @BassLessonsOnline Thanks! All i want is to practice real low at my bedroom, while i get the chance to buy another amp...

  • thank you so much for the tutorial i have got a question have you heard if the brand glen burton i got a bass under that name is it any 'good will appreciate an ansswer thanks

  • I have not heard of Glen Burton basses, but that does not mean anything. There are so many brands available nowadays; many of them have excellent value.

"Good" is how it works for you. If you are uncertain, just get someone knowledgeable to asses your bass.

    Kind regards,

    George

  • getting my bass tomorrow.. im kinda excited!!!

  • I love the anticipation - Keep the feeling while you learn and play.

    George

  • Got my first bass yesterday! Can't wait to start learning :D

  • @MissGSFL Hi I got my first bass :) I got a silly question: Can I start with an 15 or 20 watts amp? Or it will sound bad..Do i have to start with 30w further?

  • With bass, get as many watts as you can (afford). Just test a few amps to notice the difference.

    George

  • Yeah!! I am always exited about new basses and new learnings.

    Bass of Luck!

    George

  • also called a fretboard

  • Yes, "fingerboard" is an overall term that also applies to fretless basses.

    George

  • 5 mins ago i got my first bass a Fender Jazz Bass as a graduation gift :)

  • That's gotta be one of the best gifts ever!

    George

  • @BassLessonsOnline it was, and it still is:D

  • @NeonXGhost Me too!!

  • I still feel how exciting that is - congratulations!

    George

  • thumbs up if you have a kingston bass.

  • First lesson i've watched of you so far. You totally got me in to it! I'll be watching all the others :)

  • y is ur bass so hi up on ur body?

  • I explain the "starting position" at 7:17

    George

  • I played bass when I was in high school about 8 years ago. Since then I have been in the military and working, but I wanted to pick up bass again. These videos are very good and I have learned things I did not know before hand. The one thing I always had trouble on was memorizing scales and improv. Right now I have a basic Squire Fendor and I also have a late 80s model Ibanez that has a great sound.

  • Hello and thanks for your background info.

My step-by-step online course (available via the link in the Description box above) should help you with memory techniques and improv (among other concepts).

    Kind regards,

    George

  • he fliped us off

  • That was extremely helpful i will be watching all of your lessons and maybe by the end i can play you a tune :)

  • You're most welcome! Thanks for checking out my You Tube lessons.

    George

P.S. Post a video of that tune when you've got it :)

  • I going to start learning bass soon and I want to know what a good amp to get because I have no idea of what to get?

  • It depends on your budget and what is available in your area.

I suggest to get an amp with as many watts as you can afford. And, of course, you must like the sound and features.

I am happy to help further once you have narrowed down your options.

    George

  • sorry for this question, but aren't you hungarian or do you have hungarian roots? because i am hungarian and i think your surname sounds hungarian

  • My surname is Polish.

    George

  • @BassLessonsOnline That was great, I've always wanted to play bass but for now I'll stick with my guitar.

  • hello im planning on beginning bass...i have musical experience been playing 9 years accordion...what bass would you recommend for a beginner? iv seen a good squier jazz bass would you recommend it? P.S your voice sounds ideal for other people to absorb it xD thanks a lot

  • I think the Squier Jazz Bass is an excellent choice. (Thanks for your kind comment.)

    George
